Very nicely done. I've always liked Bettie. Kate

gosh hyena hope that was a joke. That was pretty harsh. :(

Darth_Logice ( ) posted Thu, 11 January 2001 at 9:16 AM

It wasn't a Joke, Mr. Hyena has made enemies in Comp/Debate and now He Is going to piss all over our work, apparently. It's okay, doesn't bother me at all...the antics are so unabashedly immature that it's kinda cute. -Darth

Wow. Now all we need is someone to model the hair correctly and I think you'll have her...

Marque ( ) posted Thu, 11 January 2001 at 9:34 AM

Make the eyes a little smaller, the face needs to be flattened a bit, and take the bulb down on the end of her nose...and I say she's Damned close!! You always do great work, and as for this Hyena guy/gal, don't we usually feel sorry for lame animals? heh Marque

Marque ( ) posted Thu, 11 January 2001 at 9:39 AM

Let me make something clear. I love it when someone gives constructive views, but this hyena guy/gal only seems to be able to slam people. If you don't like something, remember first of all that it is the artist's view that is being portrayed, and if you think it should look different, say why it should be different...only people who are so lame they can't express themselves say, "it sucks" and then go forward with an insult. I hope this person either grows up or goes away. As for me, from here on out I intend to ignore this person. Marque

{I love it when someone gives constructive views, but this hyena guy/gal only seems to be able to slam people} Hyena is another name for a frequent poster here (Blue Scarab, Keoto, SixPacWolf, etc.) who is a VERY talented and creative modeller himself. Unfortunately, he and Darth got into a bit of a row down in C&D, and Hyena is now taking it out on Darth by ripping apart his work - and doing so in a fairly rude manner. Pity, really.

Marque ( ) posted Thu, 11 January 2001 at 10:03 AM

So does he keep changing his name so he can slam people? Maybe it's because it's a habit and he knows that as soon as someone sees his name they will ignore him. How sad for him. Marque

CharlieBrown ( ) posted Thu, 11 January 2001 at 10:28 AM

No, he changes his name for several reasons - the main one being that one name keeps getting banned but he just doesn't learn...

Hi, Darth! The pic is sweet! W/ regard to the "flatten face & de-round nose" comment, i agree, with ammendment--any changes only need to be subtle. This is possibly a job for someone who knows morphing: Vickie has very pronounced eyelid sculpture, which a lot of real people do not. Thus the need for making her brow ridge less strong & the upper eyelid a bit flatter. Not that i am in any way comparable to La Bettie, but my features are similar in this regard (see picture for example). Also, she has a clef chin--me, too--that Vickie as-is doesn't model well. And La Bettye carries a little more flesh than Vicki, making her a bit softer & rounder. Fab work. Can't wait to see more! And yeah, i've been jonesing for a proper B.P. hair prop, too. **sigh** --Nan

If you were planning in the future to model Traci Lords I haven't seen a closer render than that so far. Keep up the great work. Some of my better work seems to be the result of accidentally missing my target.

Nice job....

Jaager ( ) posted Fri, 12 January 2001 at 1:59 AM

Nan, As for the eyes, there may be a nominclature misunderstanding, but if lid, you mean the sheet of skin covering the upper eyeball, then what you can do here is constrained by the size and position of the eyeball. It is easy enought to miss and have the eye emerge as it is. I do my Z trans at -0.0005 , but there are limits as to how far you want the eyes to sink in. The Brow and the area just under it where the eyeshadow makeup goes are a different matter. Adjustments here would be easy enough, if you know where you want to go. Your pix is about a magnitude too small for me to see a goal.

Jaager, i apologize for not being precise. i do mean the latter brow area. Made the sketch for quick reference. The red area would be the latter brow area, and yes, it is more vertical and less prominent than the regular Vicki. Also, the green eyelid area is also smaller, more vertical, and thinner vertically. Do you think this could be achieved with the generally available morph targets? --Nan

Jaager ( ) posted Fri, 12 January 2001 at 2:35 PM

Actually, I do not know if much has been done here. I have not worked on it. I have only done two eye morphs. Rather than push the eyebrow back, this looks like the latter brow area comes forward. Right now , it is the only way I see to get the hinge seam of the upper lid both shorter and more vertical. In essence, the eye socket is less hollow? The brow is less prominent because the chine (turn of the bilge) is less acute? I will not promise anything, I just struck out on a sock morph. At any rate, I wound not try anything which required a negative Z trans of the eyeball to get everything to fit right.

nfredman ( ) posted Fri, 12 January 2001 at 3:58 PM

i'm thinking that, yes, the ridge of the brow would not be pushed back, or only very subtly. And yes, the area between the bony ridge and the eyelid crease does come forward a bit, and the chine is more subtle. It comes to making a more delicate face in the eye areas. Not as flat as an Asiatic face, but somewhere on the continuum. Struck out on a sock morph? This sounds like a story. :^) Agreed about the negative z-trans on the eyeball, setting the eyes back into the skull is not really the issue. Thanks for the discussion--this is interesting! You say you use RDS? i wish i could figure out how to manipulate the meshes with my copy of RDS! --Nan still on the steep side of the learning curve!

Jaager ( ) posted Fri, 12 January 2001 at 9:26 PM

The sock morph might turn out, but I don't want to make a habit of doing the technique required. Assuming that you can get a mesh into the MFM, I use pts as the units and I set the magnet tool to a range of 0.1 pts. Hide what you do not want to move. you can hide in multiple steps, but it comes back complete. Save often. When you want to move a vert(s) set the view such that where you want to go is in the plane of the screen and the hit CTRL-ALT-7 ( send drawing plane to screen ). Use the key pad numbers 1-2-3-4-6-8 to change your view slightly - do not use the 4 arrow keys - have a lot of undo levels. CTRL-7 gets you a second or third window.
