oh no....i can't believe this! i had no idea this existed, Joe. is this common...dumps like this all over? i guess i always just assumed our trash went...uh...OMG...i never thought about it before. we GOT to start recycling more!!! oh, this is verrrrry disturbing!!! well, both your images of this dump are really quite beautiful! i really like the original better though. i luv the blue pastel in the sky a lot!! i think it really adds a lot. in your b/w version, this place feels cold and uninviting, but maybe that was your intention. you said you were trying to create a mood. yep, the b/w version feel pretty lonely, sad, and that gull looks like it just wants to get away from this place. the original is warmer and there's some hope...that spring is coming or even maybe that things are warming up. and the bird in this one looks like it's saying like it's just flying around enjoying the day. i still can't believe this about the trash! sigh
Yeah why not pollute the universe when we finished with this planet !
And every one said, 'If we only live,
We too will go to sea in a Sieve,---
To the hills of the Chankly Bore!'
Far and few, far and few, Are the lands where the Jumblies
live;
Their heads are green, and their hands are blue, And they went to
sea in a Sieve.

Great manipulation. Unfortunately, yes, the waste does have to go somewhere, but thanks to public pressure at least when this gets to the point where it's no longer viable it should be landscaped and become useful to society again. Unfortunately it's amazing how much of this 'rubbish' can be recycled... not just your plastics and papers but the metals too... they only do the profitable stuff though :-( Onslow, totally agree, and Tedz, shame on ya!! If your house bin is full do you throw your rubbish in the street? (",)
I like the image..... says a lot about what we are doing to this planet. I like both the BW and the color version, but I do think you did to much sharpening on the BW version.... just my opinion. :~) Otherwise as I already said I like it!
I am, therefore I create.......

Thanks for ALL the comments on this! I'm touched that this image impacted some of you! That was part of the intention and I guess it worked. I'm thinkin' it might be a good one for the gallery, spread the word...make more people aware!
These dumps/recycling centers are PART of our world. I think many (including myself) take them for granted! It's a shame with all our scientific knowledge and technology, we still can't find alternatives. My little town has to deal with this huge eyesore...not to mention the SMELL when the wind shifts! It can't be healthy and most likely isn't! At one point, there was even a lawsuit, but the company donated (can u say PAID OFF) my town (HUSH MONEY) and they dropped it!
