I've been getting timeouts and other errors on Renderosity lately, sometimes preventing me from accessing the site at all. Your comment about the packet loss makes me think that the servers are (again) overloaded at certain times of the day. Perhaps an in-depth examination of traffic trends and server load might give some ideas? This is just a thought, and I could be way off, but that's my best guess at this time. ;-) bonni

Maybe creating a poll on the issue? For example, questions like:
What time of day does this seem to happen?
How many members are on line here when this happens?
How often are the images corrupted in one visiting session?
Do you get the corruption while visiting a galley here or in coming to the gallery from an e mail notice or both?
Do you use a private or free e mail service for your favorite artist's e mail notices?
What OS and browser do you use?
Do you have a strong firewall setting in place?
Just some ideas and I talked to my computer tech hubby about this, and he feels that it is a bandwidth thing...when you think about it, with all the events of our community, the store and the galleries here are (it seems to me) becomming even MORE used, populated, visited than EVER before. Soooo many folks are probably downloading images to view at one time.... I know I USE the gallery to discover marketplace items, so while I am visiting some of my MANY "favorite artists" I am also running to check on a product many times... Then I visit the forums a bit...that sure must be a lot of bandwidth traffic for the site?!
I have two firewalls, a hardwire one and a software one, both set fairly high, but this does not bother ANY other gallery web site I visit, or even pictures on any other kind of site....
I have a high end machine with a gig of ram, and I keep my temp, cookies AND other harder to find temp files and history files cleaned out daily.
I do most of my "favorite artist" gallery visits in the evening here on the west coast of the USA. There are AT LEAST 2000 + members on line at this time.
I might see 2 or 3 images okay and then they corrupt, and after that, unless I close all browser windows, and re-open ONLY renderosity with no e mail window open, the images will keep corrupting. OH and at first it was just one here and there, and now it is more and more are downloading either pixilated or with color bands or strips.
I noticed this SUDDENLY happening about two weeks ago now... was anything changed "behind the scenes" in the coding or something?
Lyne PS I have IE6, with all proper settings to allow images etc. and use win2kpro sr4, large hard drive too!

Thanks for the responses. "was anything changed "behind the scenes" in the coding or something?" Yes, We added a new front end box several weeks ago. If that was the problem I would experience the problem and so would a much larger group of members if not all members. I feel the same about the bandwidth issue. I have yet to experience the problem and I am all over the site for 7-9 hrs everyday. We will continue to look into the issue. Clint

Hmm...So it is appearing in the Galleries only? Is this true for everyone? I look forward to hearing back from anyone experiencing the problem. Clint

It is true for me that it only appears in the galleries - I have not had a problem (so far) with images in a forum message.

No, it's not happening in the galleries only. For instance, that thread of mine down below. I saw a corrupted image in Bryce forum, too. As to suggestions... server load? Server (as in program) is not able to supply the data? If it was bandwidth and network problems, it would happen elsewhere. I don't have anything like this on cgtalk.com which is probably quite bigger than RR. I don't have problems on DAZ.

Hmmm, no problem in the store images for me either...that is an interesting point. (I always wondered if the store was on a different server- it always is faster loading and functioning for me, even when the gallerys are slow) ACK! Just happened to me in the product showcase FORUM... the last image in Firebirdz post got chopped in half! :( I have not even come from any e mail....though I do have a browser window open to go to Poser World next...

I'm not having problems in the gallery but elsewhere. When I click my bookmark for Rosity, click a page transition, go to the gallery or anywhere else at Rosity, I get "waiting for www.renderosity.com" and it just sits there. This is the only site I get that on. Every other site I go to loads fast. I'm on DSL and tried Firefox and IE6 and get the same thing with both. Been happening alot lately.
havnt suffered corrupted images.. but suffered time out and unable to access like can not find server.. seems to happen early evenings for me.. sometimes viewing and commenting when returning to the gallery.. the server fails.. and yes only happens in renderosity.. :) but not understanding technical things.. sorry no solution.. hugs nikki

We made a slight change to the new server that we think may have been causing some of the image issues. Let me know if you are still having problems. Thanks very much for all the input that everyone gave! Clint

Guys, As Clint mentioned in #4, we had recently added another front-end webserver box (that makes 5 now) that was running a newer version of Linux and the Apache webserver. I have downgraded the Apache webserver on the new box to match our other front-end boxes. Please post here & let us know if the image corruption problems are fixed. Tim
just started for me today in the photo gallery
& on images posted in the forum...
ran windowwasher/adaware/spybot...
all clear, reboot... still doing it...
what i find really strange is if i click on the thumb & view the pic it's corrupted like the one above...
but if i use the ebot link of the same pic, it's fine...
this has happened with several pics...
click thumb- corrupt
clink ebot link of same pic- fine puzzled :/
not sure if this willh help at all but i had this problem before where my images where gettig very pixelated. the thing i did to solve it was to upload the main image and thumb seperately by editing the post. it solved the pixelation problem. i did have an image that recently got distorted, half of the image shifted over and didn't line up with the other half but when i checked it some time later it was fine. on a couple images that i've seen with this problem after waiting a while and checking later i noticed that it was corrected! sorry if this is irrelevant to the topic but i figured it couldn't hurt to mention it!!! eb
Wheeeee!!!! wwowowow, yeaaaaa!!!! bad server, bad bad... good it's downgraded or off line!.... it's a bit after 2 pm here on the west coast, (USA) and I just went through all my favorites, coming in from yahoo e mail WITHOUT ONE CORRUPTION!! I had about 30 images to go view...big ones, small ones.... not one glitch!! There are over 2000 members on line right now too! I hope it holds!! :))

Ohhhh I agree with Lyne that was a very bad bad server!! Went through forums with no coding and problems reading what I wanted.
Will have to try uploading to free stuff and seeing if that gives me problems now. Was too frustrating doing it all and then to find nothing took!
Whatever you did to fix, all this frustration, please keep doing it! :-)

Hi Everyone, We have the server that was corrupting images back on-line. (smile) We have replaced the fibre network card in the server. We have a strong feeling that this may have been what was causing the images to corrupt. If you experience any image corruption issues in the Art Gallery please take a screen shot and post it to this thread. Thanks in advance for your assistance with this issue. Best Regards, Clint

Right now I have written a message to the Photography Forum about having that problem and one of our coords told me I might post this message also here to let you know, Clint. Here's what I have written: Hi everyone, I'm pondering on a problem I notice when viewing the images in the gallery since yesterday... Many of the images appear in two parts. While the upper part looks original the below part is moved a bit to the side and shows really ugly colours. It's a pity! Just wanted to know if anyone else noticed that problem. Have a great day and weekend soon to come! Greetz'n hugz, Monika Hope you can solve the problem. Good luck, Clint! Monika

Hi everyone, In light of the recent posts around image corruption in the Art Galleries I have been trying to reproduce the problem and have not been able to.
I have tried from several locations and several ISPs.
Some of the corrupted image screenshots that have been posted in this forum appear to be packet loss issues.
I have been trying to locate a common source for the problem and at this time it seems to only resolve to "Its only happening at Renderosity".
There arent any common links with browsers, OS's or ISPs.
There are only a few handfuls of members having the problem.
Since I cant reproduce it or find any sort of common source I am at a loss as to where the problem is.
Other than its only happening here for a small group of members.
If anyone has any suggestions I am open to hearing them.
I wanted to make this post to let you know that we are and have been looking into this but have as of yet been able to come up with what can be done to resolve it.
