Hi all this is a question from a newbie to Vue as I have given up on trying to get the fantastic looking water that Vue can create I have only just got the program and I was wanting to fastrack the learning curve How can I bring in my models and keep all the textures and colours that I gave them in poser? How do I change the colour of the scene my first attempt had a green colour caste which is ok for UK waters but I want the tropical look which is blue ;-) And also how do you control the volumetric affect of the water i.e. as you get further away from the camera the models start to fade in detail. This images sent are just a demo LOL Check out my Gallery for the type of look I am looking for Regards Keith

Look in my gallery at the last pic to see if that's what you want... Anyway, I simply use a lot of fog and haze to get the depth. When you use the right color of it then it's almost as if the under water feel comes automatically

Regarding the Poser models. Simply save them as pz3-files (native Poser format) and import those into Vue. As simple as that. Yo umight have to direct Vue to your Poser application first. That is necessary because Poser files have only references to the related Runtime folders - in terms of geometry and bitmaps. Which means the full pathnames are not in the files, only from .../.../Poser/ onwards. Forget this technical blurb, simply import the pz3 files and there you are.

But not always.
Sometimes when I load / import Poser 5 scenes to Vue 4
then all textures are lost and the object is just
default grey. But sometimes it works fine. Maybe Vue 4
can't handle all of these advanced P5 shader nodes?
Maybe, I find out sometime.

"Maybe Vue 4 can't handle all of these advanced P5 shader nodes?" Definitely not, I'm sorry. Neither V5E is compatible with P5 shader nodes - but it is with textures.

Re: post 3 (wabe) - (strokes chin thoughtfully) that is interesting. My runtime is installed in Propack directory and Poser 5 points to that runtime. Perhaps that's why I have to re-assign all the textures in Vue manually.....or better yet, perhaps a little CR2 hacking (runs off to laboratory)!

Do a test Squid. Export an object from Poser as obj and then open the mtl file that is created with a text editor. There you can see what pathname Poser exports. OR, simply open a cr2 file from Poser in an editor as well. I enclose a screenshot of the interesting part. here. You see, not the full pathname, only from "Runtime" on. Therefore other programs can have problems to find those textures.

Wabe, thank you for pointing that out. Haven't tried it yet, but if what you're saying is correct, that will only work if you PoserProPack.exe and Runtime are in the same directory. In my case, they are not because Lightwave 7.5 is another branch of my workflow and doesn't play well with Poser 5 (a minor detail for which I have a workaround).

Phantast ( ) posted Thu, 03 March 2005 at 4:59 AM

Poser's obj export is very broken. It doesn't export pathnames.

wabe ( ) posted Thu, 03 March 2005 at 5:09 AM

Not necessarily the Runtime and Poser must be in the same folder. Poser must have more information somewhere else about the Runtimes. In Poser 5 you can have several Runtimes and you simply point Poser to the one you need. BTW, the screenshot from above shows a pathname that is not true. The texture in reality lies in a Runtime folder that is called "Runtime Animals and Architecture". But Poser knows where to look at in fact. Maybe that is the reason why so many applications have problems with Poser stuff.
