Subject: Website featuring V3 as a 'tour guide'. (shameless plug)

cyberscape ( ) posted Thu, 03 March 2005 at 8:46 PM · edited Sat, 09 November 2024 at 1:36 PM

Hey all. Just finished uploading my website that has V3 as a tour guide. http://members.fortunecity.com/boreel NOTE - there's no nudity but, watch the volume if you're at work since there is sound. The site is intended for IE with screen res of 1024x768. If you're on a different browser, let me know how well it works (Netscape will probably not play the sound). I tried to give the feel of animation with a few mouse/overs and some transitions. When I can afford a payhost with more server space, I plan to fancy it up with real poser animations. Lemme know what you think! CyberscapE

On http://members.fortunecity.com/boreel/page3.htm she appears to be looking off into the distance instead of at the viewer, even though she's offering her hand. You might also want to put a small "skip entry" option so that people can get into the main directory without having to go through a bunch of other pages. For first-time visitors it's okay, but if you have people who return, they may not want to go through all that again... ;-) bonni

I really like waht I was able to see but definitely too resource intensive for dial-up peons. I gave up trying to wit for page 4 to download. Using IE 6 btw.

Nicely done CyberscapE! Just one thing to note, on a larger screen (1280 x 1024), though the mouseover cursor changes seemed to be correct for the active zones, the alternate images (hand glow, head turn) seemed to activate when the cursor was offset from the active zone (I suspect due to the resolution discrepancy centring the background image).

You did really good ! And you are very talented with Poser and things. Maybe you should consider a nice webpage with no adds. I get them on every page and I hardly could enjoy your works.

I don't go near Fortune City if I can help it. Loaded with ads and sometimes your browser can get hijacked, Tripod or Geocities is ten times better. :)

In the gallery pages, you should create proper thumbnails for your images. They currently have the full size image with a smaller width/height set in HTML to make it look like a thumbnail. Makes the page load faster and you're not getting the full bandwidth hit for any image that the visitor doesn't choose to view at full size. Got to agree with comments about "skip intro" for return visitors and avoiding Fortune City. PS: Works fine in Firefox.

The thumbnails definitely need fixing. You're forcing people to download every one of your images at full size, just to see the thumbnails. Even on broadband, your site is painfully slow.

I like FortuneCity better than Tripod and Geocities. Tripod has zillions of ads - on top, on the side, popups and popunders. Geocities isn't quite as bad, but I hate the floating watermark thingy. They also have very restrictive bandwidth limits.

FortuneCity is easy to adblock. I've never had any problem with hijacking there. The "spyware" they have is the usual thing ad-supported sites have: a cookie that lets them recognize you. Usually so you get a popup only once per visit or once per day, not every time you go back to the main page.

Great idea for starters, fix the eyes as suggested and most certainly do create an alternate way to access your website so people have more options.

For my experience, Fortune City, unless you pay for it, suxs has way too many ads, popups & distractions. I like using the Tripod, UK version for my homepages, there's only a sidebar ad and a popup blocker will block all popups. and it has a php database and it doesn't put any restrictions on you. And, you can upload all your media files, including music. I have a 3D site there, works just fine for me. (JMHO) :)

Maybe the UK version is different. I really hate the sidebar thing, though. I find it incredibly distracting, and you can't get rid of it. It also locks up my browser half the time. Honestly, when I see a site is hosted at Tripod, I usually avoid it. When I do go there, I use Netscape 3. It has no java, so none of the Tripod's evil banners and popups work.

I haven't seen a FC ad for years. Even lame popup blockers like Webwasher get rid of their popups - and the banners, too. Like all free sites, they have bandwidth limits, but they aren't too obnoxious. I believe you get 3 Gb per month. While Geocities/Tripod has some kind of hourly limit. I hate that. You can go all month with no traffic, but if three people decide to download your video in one hour, bam - you're cut off. :-P

I guess there's no such thing as a free lunch any more...

The first two pages played sound on Mozilla Firefox. Everything worked fine

On http://members.fortunecity.com/boreel/page3.htm she appears to be looking off into the distance instead of at the viewer, even though she's offering her hand.
I agree, and on the other images of her also, eye contact might be more effective.

You did really good! And you are very talented with Poser and things. I agree with this also. Keep up the good work. It's always hard to implement a website design which is a departure from the standard styles.

Thanks for looking everybody! Good critiques too! I'll get on fixing the things mentioned. Changing the eyecontact will be a little tricky though since the original PZ3 is corrupted - YEAAHHH, BOIYY!
