Okay, so after all my trouble, the first time I use the castle, you can hardly see it!

What I want to know is, why did the doggy have no shadow?

(Oh, it's Bryce 4 & a Poser Doggy)

(I put shadow in with PSP afterwards)

In the materials lab, there is a set of controls for the shadows, it's on the dropdown from the little triangle on the right hand side at top.

Pass no temptation lightly by, for one never knows when it may pass again!

Check the position of your light in the scene. Looks like the light is directly above the dog, cause there 'is' a shadow directly under him....I'd move the light forward or backward, or to either side to create a longer more noticable shadow.

you might have used a radial light, sometimes that doesn't give as much of a shadow..great work, you're coming along just fine.

I agree with Zhann, I too see a shadow under the doggie, relocate that light.

She did say she had added a shadow in PSP.

This is looking much better! I'd recommend increasing the frequency of the material until it more closely matches the scale of the stones in your archway.

Ahhhhhyes, that went completely passed meBryce 4 doesnt offer shadow control per say with the individual lights but radial and flood lights do give off shadows so, whatever light it is you have illuminating the interior of the castle should be rendering the dogs shadow at a slight angle. Make sure, as Incarnadine says that the materials options is set correctly for the dog's material.

Yes, there IS a shadow, but I put it there in PaintShop Pro afterwards. And the dog's material DOES have those settings for shadows. And it IS a radial light. (I have trouble getting any other lights to GIVE OFF any light) I didn't add torches outside because this is Bryce4 and I can NOT get it to display the texture outside correctly because it has no "Cubic" setting in Mat editor. The lights are not directly above the doggy, but they are above and behind. (I will change the frequency on the material though) Here's the result - no post work shadow in this one... Fran

Fran, try creating a flood light of the same magnitude as the radial you have there now but closer and concentrating down on the dog from the same angle as the primary radial and see what happens. It may need adjustment for compensation.

FranOnTheEdge ( ) posted Thu, 10 March 2005 at 8:17 AM

Quest, Er... what's a "flood light"? I've looked in Bryce4 - the only one I have so far - and it just has "Radial Light" "Spot light" "Square spotlight" and "parallel light". Which one do I use? Fran

Oops, sorry, yeah...a spot...it helps to direct the light ray with minimal scattering onto an area.

I haven't been able to get those to shed any light yet, but if you say so, I'll give it one more try. Fran Okay, managed to get it to shed light, now what did you mean by "It may need adjustment for compensation."? I don't like the way it looks now, by the way, it's lost all that nice warm yellow glow and there's still no shadow from the dog. Plus there's an obvious pool of light on the floor of the archway corridor. Help? Fran

No, I mean, keep the same old ligting but add this one to it. Therefore the grand hall will be lite the same and the dog will have its shadow lighting. Thats what I meant! Tell me if you cannot achieve this.

Okay, luckily I have only turned the radials in the torches down - not deleted them altogether. Here's the result, still no shadow.
