Subject: It's time to grow up......

aeilkema ( ) posted Sat, 05 March 2005 at 4:15 AM · edited Wed, 27 November 2024 at 8:45 PM

Been browsing through the Vue gallery today as usual on Saturday morning. I've seen some excellent stuff again today, brilliant works of art. I've also seen a lot of not so brilliant works of art too. This got while browsing through the gallery.... whenever a Vue image has a nude girl in it the views are over 400 most of the time. It's almost always ranked excellent. Even if it's just slapped together, it still get's lot's of views and comment and even excellent rankings. On the other hand I've seen some true work of arts today. Lot's of work involved, great angles, beautiful scene setup. Hardly any viewers, just a view comments. That makes me sad, it's time for people to grow up around here and see the true beauty of the art around here and most of the time that doesn't involve some beautiful girl.

Artwork and 3DToons items, create the perfect place for you toon and other figures!

Due to the childish TOS changes, I'm not allowed to link to my other products outside of Rendo anymore :(

Food for thought.....

I think most people would agree, but you might as well ask the rain to stop falling... sex sells and always will. ~shrugs~ There are some very nice nudes done, I'm not a prude at all. But a lot of talented people are being ignored. It isn't going to change anytime soon. All we can do is enjoy what we enjoy and accept that you're not going to be noticed unless you have a big 'eyed' bimbo front and center ~G~

thomllama ( ) posted Sat, 05 March 2005 at 5:54 AM

yup i agree.. but renderosity is a Poser dominated site ... like Ms Outlaw says.. it isn't going to change anytime soon. want your images viewed more? just put a little tiny nude off in some corner, zoom in on it for the thumbnail :) You'll have everyone looking at it I do agree though, and that is why I have gone to other places for most of my postings and gallery viewing. I still like coming here because there is tons of information and friendly help by the boat load.

Hexagon, Carrara, Sculptris, and recently Sketchup.

Another things is alot of people are lazy. so they look at an image and even if the think is nice b/c of their lazyness don't comment, but they got some friends in here so any time this people post an image let me tell them how talented they are for me everytime that i look at a pic that i like a make a comment n i understand that art is diff for everybody so i always try to look at the positive side of every pic n almost always leave a comment. i wish more people where like that when someone makes a pic they expects some comments even if it is just "Very Nice".

guslaw ( ) posted Sat, 05 March 2005 at 10:10 AM

...yeah, one way to prevent the unbalanced number of hits on pictures with nudes is to prevent 11 to 15 year old boys from viewing and commenting while mommy is out shopping or doing the dinner dishes... It ain't gonna happen so we may as well learn to live with it. Thomllama is right, the Poser gallery is especially guilty of this.

Sure, it would be nice if more people appreciated art. But people are animals and reproduction is the most important thing any animal does (DNA is in control, like it or not). No reproduction = no animals, so it's no wonder "sex sells" better than art does - it's what we do. So, i don't see the predominance of sex in everything as immature. To me it's more like a "value added tax" that you pay for being human. Besides, i like sex. Beautiful clouds, beautiful flowers, beautiful landscapes, beautiful women (from my POV) - they all work well for me. Still, it's a shame more people don't view and comment on the fine art - they don't realize how much they are missing out on. In getting a fine art degree, we "had to" study a lot of art history. Really wakes you up, to see hundreds of years worth of art (sex in much of it).

ChuckEvans ( ) posted Sat, 05 March 2005 at 12:07 PM

I appreciate beautiful art whether it has a (nude) female in it or not. I enjoy looking at e-on's image of the day (but rarely stroll through the galleries here mostly because of how slow this *%#!ed site it). As mentioned above...it's not going to change. Just have to understand all kinds of images get posted. Some are good some aren't. And ones with nudity in them will generally get more views and comments. And rain will continue to fall.

Zerelli ( ) posted Sat, 05 March 2005 at 4:06 PM

Are there any other gallery sites out there that don't have all the poser nudes? I personally don't care that people "like" it, but I would like to point out my gallery to people without worrying about them being offended by the parade of poser porn. I post on 3DC occasionally but I notice there is not a lot of activity as far as comments, and I enjoy hearing what people think.

Here's a gallery where no nudes are allowed: http://www.iloco.org/photopost/

I'm not sure if you can reach it without being registered.

there is a huge lack of poser nudes at my site, our main focus is on landscape art, lots of Terragen but a growing collection of Vue images too... http://terranuts.com

You can also go into your profile here and check the "no nudes in gallery" box. This will filter out nudes in all the galleries as well as the marketplace. I don't mind nudes if they're well composed and rendered. I post them occasionally myself. And when I do, I always check the "Image contains nudity" so folks who don't want to see nudity don't even see the image. I do get tired of poorly posed, composed, and rendered images of a naked lady (or guy) stuck in a scene for no apparent purpose. I find that kind of boring. But I will say there's a much larger amount of that kind of stuff in the Poser gallery than in the Vue gallery.

As a liberal with a degree in art, who used to teach at a fine art college, i'd say, from my point of view, (notice that i don't say "my way or the highway" like many non-liberals) it's more about realizing that individual people really are unique. Which is one reason why personal freedom is so important. Therefore, one rule never fits everyone.

What is or is not art is great for art students to discuss for a few years, but in the end you have to get over it. Art or not art is a personal thing. More like does this image work for me or does it not.

I'm happy that the people who run this site have a tool to let people block what they don't want to see or to be seen by their kids, etc. My opinion is that it is not good to show stuff to people which they do not want to see (although no one is forcing them to come here).

With the filter in place, those who want to explore whatever is presented can do so and make their own personal choices about what they like or don't - free from someone else's rules.

It's so arrogant to think that any one person knows what is good or bad for everyone else. And it assumes that everyone is the same, which is so obviously not true.

Oh.....most liberals that I've ever known would say this....and more violently than most conservatives.

If one wishes to discover the true meaning of "intolerance", then all that one need do is to appear as a conservative speaker at a liberal university.

As for the central point of this thread:

Landscapes are wonderful works of art. Post them. I love landscapes. We need more landscapes.

But don't ever expect the History Channel to command the same sort of audience share as MTV. Totally aside from the rightness or the wrongness of the issue -- it's just the way that things are.

BTW -- condemning men for acting like men might be the politcally correct way to do things these days.......not recognizing the fact that it's natural for men to think like males. Regardless of whether they happen to be 15 years old, or 80 years old.

Your average "grown up" man isn't dead. The impulses will always be there, inside of him.

It's just that he's learned how to exercise a certain degree of self-control.

Aeilkemas comments are very well taken, as are jcs (you are fearless with that L word just throwing it around like that) There was a person who had posted in a forum that he was not going to post any renders anymore because only the nude females images got any attention and comments. I did a quick analysis of his gallery that turned into a couple of hours of study and then did the same with my gallery for a comparison. My gallery contains many nudes, some of them bad, some of them really bad, some of them thought out for a very long time and test rendered for several days (although it probably does not show in the quality of the images). Anyhow, his gallery was receiving about one sixth the hits as mine but he was getting way more comments per hit than I do. I may have 400 or 500 hits for a 2 week old image but only one or two comments. He would have 40 or 50 hits for the same time period and 10 or 11 people were so inspired as to leave him a remark. His total hit/comment ratio was 10/1 and mine at the time was about 90/1 when I counted our entire galleries. He was very encouraged when I sent him this information and he did continue to post images. I find that I am now inspired to work for the comments of certain individuals whose names I see appearing beneath my efforts on a consistent basis. I find it absolutely magical that I can go through my day developing an idea, come home, work for several hours to realize my image, then have someone I have never met, will never meet, from somewhere on the Earth share the image that was in my head just 24 hours before and tell me what they think about it. Thank you everyone for supporting this system and allowing for all this to take place.

Speaking of "growing up", that's a very heartening study which you did, as well as a good turn and a mature approach to the problem this topic is about. Thank you. I wonder how many of you read of last year's research which showed than men actually experience a release of endorphins when viewing an image of an attractive woman (not necessarily nude). Sexual attraction really is hard-wired into the system. Hard for fine art to compete.

jc ( ) posted Tue, 08 March 2005 at 12:51 AM

..but i should add that the spirit also yearns for fullfillment and nourishmment. And society too needs myths and images. So, there is a market for soulfull images.

Yes......it probably took a big government grant to figure something like this out.

We live in interesting times.

Well, let's not forget, XENO, money was spent to determine if teenagers were more of a danger driving while using their cell phone than when they were not using cell phones.

jc ( ) posted Wed, 09 March 2005 at 3:38 PM

Let's also not forget that it is the conservative politicreatures who so often say "There is no science..." to try to stop obviously beneficial (except to corporate profits) legislation (to try to control global warming, polution, wilderness destruction, etc.) from being passed. Therefore, even obvious stuff now has to be "scientifically proven". "...it probably took a big government grant to figure something like this out." As you note, these silly studies may not have been at taxpayer expense.

ShawnDriscoll ( ) posted Wed, 09 March 2005 at 11:33 PM

"global warming, polution, wilderness destruction", blah blah... Junk science. I'm curious what you think though about China's view on polution and wilderness destruction.

"Junk science." I disagree. I'm ignorant of the Chinese prespective on pollution and wildernes destruction.
