Subject: Mike's EyeLashes/Brows

FranOnTheEdge ( ) posted Sat, 12 March 2005 at 5:54 PM · edited Thu, 09 January 2025 at 12:32 PM

Hi, Dorky question again. Sorry about that. I'm trying to improve Michael's eyelashes and brows in Bryce. But I have no idea where to find the correct trans map/s. I've hunted through Poser, and Daz Studio until I'm blue in the face, with no luck. I guess it doesn't help that I dunno what the files are called that I'm looking for. Can anyone tell me where to find (and what they are called) the trans maps for Michael's Eyelashes and Brows? I've got a tutorial on how to do it, and it works fine with Judy - but now I'm stuck with Michael. Please, please, PLEASE help? Fran

P.S. If anyone knows, can someone also tell me where the trans map is for the "Hmann-MaleSCap"? I can't find the darned thing anywhere. Please? Fran

This is the main reason why I hate installers... they hide things. Basic things like transmaps are nowhere to be found if you don't know the super secret name. A misspelling or wrong case, and all is lost. I suggest reinstalling... into a temp folder. With DAZ it is called "extract". Get all the files into the one little folder so that you can see what you have, and if anything is missing, and read the readme to see where it is recommended that they go. When you are comfortable with file structures, you can reorganize your libraries your way. Carolly

I'm moving house this week coming and frankly your suggestion to reinstall fills me with abject horror. All I want to do is find out the correct names of these files. Is there no other way at all?????? Besides my downloadable file from Daz has run out ages ago.... Cripes! You did mean just reinstalling Michael.... didn't you? You didn't mean actually reinstalling Poser? oh please, say you didn't! Fran

What about the hair? Isn't that part of Poser? "Hmann-MaleSCap" is the basic scullcap isn't it? I've searched under that name in Poser with absolutely no results, so what Poser calls it under the document window in the Pose room is NOT what it is saved under. Help? Fran

"Hmann-MaleSCap" isn't a DAZ file. That sounds like a skullcap to go with a particular hair model from Harvey Mann. You can lots of his very well regarded hair in the MarketPlaces. I didn't actually mean to reinstall Mike into your Runtime again (and certainly not to reinstall Poser... I can understand why you might be confused if you are moving and everything is in disorder!). Just click on the Vise installer icon in the Mike folder and instead of installing it into the Runtime (what is usually called "easy install") do a "custom install" or "extract" or whatever it is called with your installation. DAZ has changed the installer at least 4 times and the terminology has changed a bit. Also there are probably differences between PC and Mac versions of the installers. In any case just extract all the files into a temporary folder on your desktop, or someplace you can find it. Open the temp folder and you should find a readme and batch of folders called "geometry", "libraries", "textures", which might be in a proper folder hierarchy. The typical DAZ readme says nothing worthwhile about how to use the product or get it to work or anything, but it does list the files and where they should go. For your missing transmap, look in the textures folder (first and obvious place). That should give you the file, with a name, and as a jpg you can check it to be sure that it is right. Once you have a name, you can use your computer's search tools to discover where it is lurking. You should get 2 results: one where the DAZ installer put it, and the other in your temp folder. I never was able to get D|S to work on either my PC or Mac so gave up on it last year. So someone else will have to help your find it in that application. But once you find it in Poser, you should have the file name... hmm... you might have 3 results to the search if you also installed Mike in D|S. HTH, (and don't panic) Carolly

Look for: M3_TransTrHI.jpg (for the high res, lo res may be different) Or any variation thereof in your textures folder. Textures > DAZ > Characters > MilMan > M3Maps

FranOnTheEdge ( ) posted Sun, 13 March 2005 at 2:28 PM

Carolly, "Just click on the Vise installer icon" What's that? "in the Mike folder" And where's that? I have kept a copy of the file I downloaded from Daz - is that any good? I have both the (ps_pe038-michael3.exe) file and the zipped file (ps_pe038-michael3.sit) if either are any good which should I use? (I've made a folder ready to hold stuff) "(and don't panic)" Oh you're way too late on that one, did that ages ago! Fran

Peshkwe, The only things in "Textures" are a folder called "tlc" inside which is another folder called "her" inside which is "sirenya" (you did mean in Poser, didn't you?) Well, I looked in DAZ Studio too and all that's there are folders called "bin, content, displays, docs, plugins, readme, scripts, shaders, temp" Inside "content" there is "runtime/textures/DAZ/characters/aiko" but no MilMan, Mike, Michael, M3 or any variation there of. Did you happen to buy the texture package for M3? If you only downloaded the free M3, then you only got the base figure with no textures...which could be why you can't find them.

BillyGoat ( ) posted Sun, 13 March 2005 at 7:20 PM

Maybe i'm nuts, but I see the scalp cap in your picture above. It just isn't on his head all the way. You need to move it into place using the X, Y, & Z dials. It should load right into place - but it didn't. When you Render it will look like hair. Right now it's in 'transparency' mode.

Peshkwe, GOOD POINT! If they aren't there, Fran will never find them no matter where we tell her to look. Fran, I downloaded the free files, but won't unzip them until I need to do some clothes conversions. Someone else who is using them will have to tell you where to get eyelash trans maps for them if they aren't in the basic file. It is possible that there is a free set of lashes (there was one for Vickie called "maybe-line" or something like that years ago, or that a free texture map will have the lashes. Another inexpensive way to get them might be to look for Daio's drow maps over at PoserPros. She has some lovely effects. This is the Drow Sorcerer for M3, only $2.49 in the ProClub, and the whiteness of the lashes and brows against the blackness of the skin indicates to me that it is a transmap and not painted on. Once you get the maps, you can see what goes where, and then make your own textures. Carolly

FranOnTheEdge ( ) posted Mon, 14 March 2005 at 11:47 AM

Carolly, Right, PoserPros huh? I've got that in my bookmarks somewhere. I did try using trans maps for Adam2 but it didn't really work very well, his eyebrows arrived split into two (and I mean each eyebrow was split) with 4 dots, one at each corner of each section - tres weird! Hey, I can probably afford $2.49, whatever that is in UK money. And IF the people at the bottom of my chain (house moving etc, not toilet!) get their fingers out and I discover whether or not I'm moving on Wednesday this week, then I MAY be able to reconnect to the internet sometime soon after the 23rd. (which is when the engineer comes to put in the new phoneline) I fancy odd eyelashes, as my bloke is meant to be a magic/sorcery type of guy... Thanks. In fact the whole effect is rather groovy! Oh, wait a minute... "ProClub"??? Is THAT expensive? Fran

Nope. Unlike at DAZ, you don't have to pay a membership fee. DAZ just bought them last month, so things may change in the future. Last Hallowe'en I bought some fake lashes with tiny sparkly gems in them. If we non-magical sorts can have weird effects, surely those who possess magical abilities can have a bit of stardust or cobweb or whatever? Carolly

FranOnTheEdge ( ) posted Tue, 15 March 2005 at 11:59 AM

Carolly, Yeah, stardust for the yuppie sorcerer, cobwebs for the ancient dodderer type sorcerer (the one with mice nesting in his hair!). Nice! Fran
