Started working on recreating my grandfather's 3-bay garage. This one was easy to get measurements for...it's still standing and in fair shape. He had used stone blocks for the foundation but I substituted cinder blocks..easier to work with. Other than that, it's faithful to the original. I used your tut for the truncated pyramid but instead of scaling X and Z to 50%, I only scaled X so I could have a "board" that I could "cut" at an angle on the ends for the braces. Worked out pretty good.

The doors are done and installed. Got part of the right siding on.

Close of the siding and texture. The texture is photos I took of the actual siding on the garage.

nice!

Ok cherokee69, you will have to share this one because I need a garage/barn just like that one. And then I don't have to do it myself which would save time.

Pleeeeeeeeease...

Geep, Question....how do you lock a dial? I need to lock the Y and Z trans dials of the doors. Did you have anything about locking dials in any of yout tuts? Thanks.

cherokee69 ( ) posted Thu, 10 February 2005 at 8:28 AM

Tiny, Not too sure about sharing these. Nothing is in the standard file structure of Poser. Textures and OBJ files are in folders that I can keep up with and not even in the Poser folder. After I get everything done..still want to do my gransparents house..I might consider setting the models up in the proper file structure. Doing something like this is really easy once you understand how modeling something like this in Poser works. The framework for the garage only took about one evening..or a couple hours. I got started doing these after I followed Doc's tutorials and enjoyed doing them because I was actually learning something that not too many people would try. Give it a shot, you might see how easy it is.

That is sweet workmanship! :) Did your grandfather use his to keep carriages or cars? There's plenty of room in there.

Hey Carolly, He used the left bay to keep his tractor in. I'd love to find a model of an old Farmall Cub tractor (like the pic above). The center bay is where he parked his car...ok ones I remember were a 1955 Pontiac and later a 1964 Chevy Imapla (which I now own). Not sure what he used the right bay for.

cherokee69,

What you should do instead of locking the dials is make them invisible, that way if someone wants to use them at some future date they can.

Once you save the figure as a pp2 or cr2 open it up in an editor (I use UltraEdit) & scroll down until you get to something like this for each door....

translateX xtran
{
name GetStringRes(1028,12)
initValue 0
hidden 0
forceLimits 0
min -100000
max 100000
trackingScale 0.002
keys
{
static 0
k 0 0
}
interpStyleLocked 0
}
translateY ytran
{
name GetStringRes(1028,13)
initValue 0
hidden 1
forceLimits 0
min -100000
max 100000
trackingScale 0.002
keys
{
static 0
k 0 0
}
interpStyleLocked 0
}
translateZ ztran
{
name GetStringRes(1028,14)
initValue 0
hidden 1
forceLimits 0
min -100000
max 100000
trackingScale 0.002
keys
{
static 0

"hidden" is the control for dial visibility. 0 is the default, just change it to 1 and the dials disappear.

Hey cooler, Thanks, I totally forgot about that. That's even better than trying to lock those dials.

Well, thought I'd post a pic of the finished garage.

hauksdottir ( ) posted Sun, 20 February 2005 at 1:01 PM

That looks properly time-worn. I have a question about the texture-mapping, though... it appears that the planks butt ends about a foot to the left of the upright post (middle right wall).

Carolly, if your referring to the doors on the front..each is a separate door and are posable. The center door is behind the left and right door. the above link is what I have so far.

The above image was before I made the tin roof but it shows the center door opened.

hauksdottir ( ) posted Sun, 20 February 2005 at 2:41 PM

OK... THAT explains it! Side-sliding doors (went back and looked at #3 again). Better lighting (like when it is used in a scene) would show depth... but that was a test render. BTW, your 64 Impala... my parents got a red and white '64 Impala Super Sport convertable when I was a kid. Totally the wrong sort of car for a family. It drove like a boat (that was what I learned on), but it had style. Carolly

cherokee69 ( ) posted Sun, 20 February 2005 at 2:56 PM

'64 Impala Super Sport convertable --- WOW, definately not a family car. My grandfather's (mine now) is a '64 Impala 4DR HardTop..that's the one that doesn't have the center post between the front and rear doors. As soon as the weather improves, I'm goin gto get it out and do some needed work on it.

I love this one - now you will have the talent to build a full scale one ;) I adore your work, I can't believe what you have accomplished - CONGRATULATIONS, you should be so proud of yourself, as I am of you ;)
