SAMS3D ( ) posted Mon, 14 March 2005 at 5:59 PM · edited Mon, 20 January 2025 at 6:36 PM

Hi all, I am wondering, I ordered mine on 2/13....I still have not recieved it....has everyone gotten theirs that ordered early? Sharen

iloco ( ) posted Mon, 14 March 2005 at 6:05 PM

I ordered 15 minutes after e-on opened preorder. Mine is showing prepared to ship in my account. It still has time to show shipped today but I think it may be tomorrow since its gettting so late. They said it would be on a first preorder basis's this time so will wait and see when it says its been shipped. Sharen go into your e-on account and see if you can find your order. It will show whats happpening to it.

Sharen....V5I, did not start shipping until today..the pics you are seeing are the ones the beta testers have :) Hope this helps in reliveing anxiety...I hope to have mine by end of week....fingers crossed & knocking VERY HARD on my wood desk :P

krimpr ( ) posted Mon, 14 March 2005 at 6:15 PM

Mine shows prepared to ship also. I think that it's probable that it will be shipped tomorrow and that the E-on guys are possibly taking the opportunity to nap. End of a likely chaotic day 1.

agiel ( ) posted Mon, 14 March 2005 at 6:20 PM

I would be surprised if anyone has received a full copy yet as they just hit the road today. The people who already have Vue Infinite are most likely beta testers.

Belgareth ( ) posted Mon, 14 March 2005 at 6:28 PM

I also ordered about 5 to 15 min after e-on opened preorder and it is on it's way today, well now it is 24:27 so yesterday. I ordered the 2 Day express, so I'm expecting it on Wed or Thurs, though it could arrive today(Tues) if I am very very lucky...lol

Renderonesio ( ) posted Mon, 14 March 2005 at 6:29 PM

to my they have sent it to me today, and I wait for it this week. Is my question as: Whatever betatesters has eon, Agiel? for what I see many.

SAMS3D ( ) posted Mon, 14 March 2005 at 6:33 PM

I will be anxiously waiting like all of you...I was just curious to see how many are in my situation....I don't feel so bad now....I did not receive an email that it had shipped....did any of you? Sharen

Renderonesio ( ) posted Mon, 14 March 2005 at 6:33 PM

Happiness belgareth, we are fortunate two

dlk30341 ( ) posted Mon, 14 March 2005 at 6:35 PM

krimpr ( ) posted Mon, 14 March 2005 at 6:38 PM

Renderonesio ( ) posted Mon, 14 March 2005 at 6:38 PM

I don't understand for that so much betatester, SAMS3D. This is strange

iloco ( ) posted Mon, 14 March 2005 at 6:39 PM

I'm US in Atlanta, GA..no shipping ad yet.

iloco ( ) posted Mon, 14 March 2005 at 6:41 PM

Renderosnesio, I don't think you would be happy with the program if not for a lot of beta testers helping to find bugs and making sure it will work ok before shipping. It is a long drawn out process to get a program such as Vue Infinitie ready for release. :)

ShadowWind ( ) posted Mon, 14 March 2005 at 6:42 PM

LOL, I ordered it Friday. Mine isn't even out of the reviewing stage yet. I probably won't see it for a month...

ShadowWind ( ) posted Mon, 14 March 2005 at 6:43 PM

They were pretty quick on shipping Vue4 and Vue4Pro for me. I was surprised how quick it got to Florida from France...

Renderonesio ( ) posted Mon, 14 March 2005 at 6:44 PM

My copies it comes from France (UPS shipmen) My e-mail from e says: This message is to confirm that the following product(s) were shipped on 2005-03-14 04:08:41 ;o)

Renderonesio ( ) posted Mon, 14 March 2005 at 6:50 PM

if iloco, is certain, But I didn't imagine that so many betatester was needed for it. That is always good for the program. Nevertheless to my I would like to be betatester ;o)

imagist ( ) posted Mon, 14 March 2005 at 7:22 PM

Hi All can you tell me why you can't download it and save 80 on VAT :-(

agiel ( ) posted Mon, 14 March 2005 at 9:16 PM

To be clear about beta testing - we are not getting a full copy for free :) The copy we are beta testing will expire after a while. That and the fact that we have to deal with a larger number of bugs than the final version :) We are just getting an early view of the software but we will have to pay for it like everyone else if we want a full copy of it.

videodv ( ) posted Tue, 15 March 2005 at 1:46 AM

Just checked and it said 6.14am Barking, GB Out for delivery Barking is just 3 miles from where I live. Now where did I put my vue 4 pro serial...... Oh the waiting is nearly over. videodv

youandwhosarmy ( ) posted Tue, 15 March 2005 at 1:48 AM

That sucks! Yous should at least get a free copy for beta testing!

HellBorn ( ) posted Tue, 15 March 2005 at 2:40 AM

Yeah, I find it pathetic that E-On not give you the final version for free. If you have tested throughly you must have put weeks of work into it...

agiel ( ) posted Tue, 15 March 2005 at 2:48 AM

Beta testing is a voluntary process. You get to use the software for free for a while - not to keep it. If you want the equivalent software for free, there is always the way of Blender :)

BazC ( ) posted Tue, 15 March 2005 at 3:24 AM

"That sucks! Yous should at least get a free copy for beta testing!" Absolutely! I assumed Beta testers did get a free copy! It seems little enough for all the hard work you guys an gals put in! I wonder if it's the same with all software testing?

FrenchKiss ( ) posted Tue, 15 March 2005 at 3:47 AM

Hey guys, I got a note from E-on yesterday saying my Infinite had been shipped and it was delivered at 9AM this morning. Take heart! It will arrive soon!

BigGreenFurryThing ( ) posted Tue, 15 March 2005 at 6:20 AM

There are several benefits to beta testing.

Firstly, you get to try out the software early so when the final release comes you are productive straight away.

Secondly, you get to assess the software in depth early on which saves time and costly mistakes later.

Next, some of us derive satisfaction from playing with software. It's a very personal thing. There's an intellectual buzz from troubleshooting or the simple acquisition of more experience on certain types of software.

Fourthly, despite the best efforts of some unscrupulous commercial interests, the Internet's communal spirit from its early days still exists. Some of us feel that whilst we can't give back directly to those who've given to us in the past, we can contribute to the IT / Internet community generally today in other ways. Beta testing is one of those ways.

Finally, as a consumable product, software is unique. There are a huge variety of complex environments in which it has to perform, not one but a set of functions. Add in the complexity of the relationships between hardware, software and OS and there is no way that in house testing could possibly catch as many issues as user testing. Beta testers therefore contribute their own time / effort partly for the selfish reasons (as above) but also to help produce a better product for everyone.

I can understand how beta testing does not appeal to some (OK to many!) but please don't feel bad for those of us who do it and who don't receive a free copy.

In over 20 years in IT, I've beta tested innumerable products and only ever received a free copy of a program on two occasions. But I don't feel hard done by at all as I've had great fun and gained a wealth of experience doing it plus made a few friends along the way.

Oh yeah, my copy of V5I was delivered at 1000 (UK) this morning via UPS.

Cheers,
Mark

Users in the UK must be first on the list of shipping for Vue. Mine is still being prepared to ship in the US. I always thought US got their orders from Oregon so maybe Oregaon is waiting on cd's from UK before they can ship. Anyone in US see their order as has been shipped. :)

DMM ( ) posted Tue, 15 March 2005 at 7:02 AM

Bear in mind please also that the development process depends on devoted beta testers, not people wanting to sponge a free version after they've finished playing with it. It's all about motive :D

yggdrasil ( ) posted Tue, 15 March 2005 at 7:18 AM

The UK versions are being shipped from Paris (or at least mine is) and mine is unfortunately currently showing as stuck in Paris for the last 10 hours for "Export scan". :( And I really want to get my hands on the manual. -- Mark

There are several benefits to beta testing. And do not forget the best pleasure of all! By beta testing, you are in close contact with the creators during the development stage, and this means that you CAN actually influence the product in the way it develops! I would like to give a little secret (I hope I do not do something wrong - time has passed and I think this is something I can give away) :-) : back in the days of Vue 4 beta testing, I suggested -quite near the end of the beta stage- that the stars (a new feature then) should be available coloured as an option, and not just white. Well, my suggestion was accepted, and Vue 4 featured, as a quite late change, the coloured stars! Of course this kind of thing does happen only rarely, but sometimes it does. So if you do the beta tester, you CAN actually influence the software you love the most, in a direction that you wish! Orio

ImagineThat ( ) posted Tue, 15 March 2005 at 12:46 PM

Hey Orio, thanks for the colored stars! :-) Now we need a comet or two thrown in for good measure.

war2 ( ) posted Tue, 15 March 2005 at 1:35 PM

mm its quite rare actually that you get a free application as a thank you for your beta testing, its only happened a few times for me so its not strange that e.on doesnt hand out vue for free.

spedler ( ) posted Tue, 15 March 2005 at 2:02 PM

I was very pleasantly surprised to be asked to be a beta tester, back on Feb 25th (so not many weeks ago, at least for me). I saw it as a nice chance to get my hands on a time-limited copy of an admittedly buggy V5I and hopefully help eon with their development. There was no commitment to spend a minimum time working with it - although I did spend a lot :-), and so I certainly wouldn't expect to receive a free copy. The only actual requirement was to keep shut about it until the release date.

Steve

BigGreenFurryThing ( ) posted Tue, 15 March 2005 at 2:46 PM

Orio, so it's because of you we have coloured stars. Good one! I forgot the benefit that beta testers' suggestions sometimes become features. :-) Just set up a RenderCow of two machines and it's soooo much quicker than one for animations.

Cheers,
Mark

About shipping... I was also a pre-order placer (?!) on January 31, right after the opportunity was offered. I am still showing "order prepared to ship" again today. It appears those of us who are in N.America are following the Eurpoean releases. (I'm in Canada.) For what it's worth...
