Subject: Building a List of Carrara Artists for Demo Purposes

bstockwell ( ) posted Thu, 10 March 2005 at 10:55 PM · edited Wed, 25 December 2024 at 11:04 PM

Hello All -

I'm in the process of building a list of Carrara artists that would be interested in doing product demos with us at different events around North America.

If you would be interested in being considered for this list, please send me an email directly (not to this list) with the following:

  • Name
  • Contact Information, including physical address
  • Type of work you do (animation, print, web, video, etc.)
  • Samples of some of your work
  • Geographical availability for demos

What I am hoping to do is build this list by geography so that I wouldn't have people traveling too far to work with us.

Thanks in advance for your support.

Best -
Bob

Who are you and who do you represent?

falconperigot ( ) posted Fri, 11 March 2005 at 7:40 AM

He's Eovia's Director of Sales and Marketing....a little bit of info he forgot to mention... :-)

sailor_ed ( ) posted Fri, 11 March 2005 at 7:43 AM

Thanks for the info. Seems an odd thing for someone in Sales and Marketing to forget!

nomuse ( ) posted Sat, 12 March 2005 at 1:43 PM

Heh. But once he mentions it, I remember the name. Sniff. I'm an independent contractor and used to going to gigs -- but I have little skill to speak of with Carrara (anyone who's seen the stuff I've posted would agree!)

I saw an ad on Eovia's website for a plug-in they were offering at 50% off. I had been looking at getting that plug-in before so I decided this was the time to buy. I couldn't get that price from the online web store so I contacted Eovia about the advertised item and the price. Well, to make a long story short... This is the guy who responded that the ad on thier website was posted incorrectly and he wasn't going to honor the posted price. Some companies just don't stand behind themselves. I had similar circumstances with DAZ and they told me, yep, it's posted that way, and its wrong but we posted it and we will honor it. What a difference.

Nicholas86 ( ) posted Sun, 13 March 2005 at 5:43 AM

LOL. Info..always causing trouble. Can you give us some specifics on this ad? I can't believe I missed a 50% off deal! Dang! Brian

InfoCentral ( ) posted Sun, 13 March 2005 at 9:33 AM

You didn't miss it. They wouldn't honor it! What specifics would make the incident any more relevant to you O'great Eovia can't do no wrong company frontman.

Sardtok ( ) posted Sun, 13 March 2005 at 3:54 PM

Info, don't take things so seriously (and no I don't mean the fact that eovia wouldn't sell you the item at the posted price, as I'm pretty sure that's illegal, even in the US (I live in Norway, and I know it's illegal here, it's called false advertising). I mean Brian was only joking about the making trouble part, and there's really no reason for you to attack him.) Anyway, maybe he was interested in what plug-in it was, as he thought he missed it. Maybe he didn't, maybe he just already had it or something like that, who knows, IMHO being hostile when someone asks a simple question is no way to be (If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all. (isn't that how it goes?)). Although, if you really want that plug-in, you are entirely allowed to give Eovia hell about it.

whkguamusa ( ) posted Sun, 13 March 2005 at 4:18 PM

Hey! I thought you said I was the frontman? When did Brian get promoted? There can be only one By definition being in the front would preclude another from being ahead of ones self. At least put some consistency in the conspiracy theories. wayne k Guam usa Former frontman, now apparently demoted to second banana

InfoCentral ( ) posted Sun, 13 March 2005 at 5:12 PM

Wrong again. You can have many frontmen. Just like you can have many Presidents and Vice Presidents. And to set the record strait I wasn't the one who came out swinging with the "always" etc. - name calling junk. Like I said before. If you want to discuss issues than here I am. If you want to call me names read the TOS. Now is there an issue you wish to discuss or just call me names and try to smoke screen the issues. It just appears to me that everytime customers address an issue here we get these Eovia Extremists who don't want to discuss the issues but instead attempt to take control of the forum treads by either attacking the posters instead of the topic or saying OK its a dead issue let's end it now. Who are you people? I think there are a lot more of us moderate Carrara users here who don't need to be told when an issue is dead. The issue is dead when the users of this forum quit posting. That's when the issue is dead, not when you say it is. Good greif...

Sardtok ( ) posted Sun, 13 March 2005 at 7:59 PM

No one said anything about any issues being dead here. However, if you want to discuss eovia's bad or illegal marketing, then post another thread, as what you did is simply known as thread hijacking. So, sure there's an issue to discuss, but this isn't the thread to discuss it in. And really, if you feel people are attacking you, ignore their attacks, I know it's hard to do so, but it really is a better way, offense isn't always the best defense. The reason I stepped in was because I didn't find Brian's post offensive, but I did yours, and I felt you misunderstood the nature of his post, so I wanted to clarify things. Now, maybe if I were in your shoes, I would feel offended by his post, or maybe I'm just an idiot as I didn't find his sarcasm offensive, I don't know. I wouldn't call myself an Eovia Extremist, if you were referring to me with that, heck if I could afford it, I'd rather sit here with XSI, Maya and Renderman, but that simply isn't the reality I live in. And an issue isn't dead, even if people stop posting, it's dead when someone finds a solution to the issue. Well, I have a lot of other things I want to say, but I'm pretty tired right now, as it's 3 AM, and I don't want to say anything stupid to heat things up. So when I'm more awake, and capable of thinking thoroughly about what I write, I might come by to address some more of the stuff that came up here.

InfoCentral ( ) posted Sun, 13 March 2005 at 11:42 PM

Perhaps I'm a little touchy. But that's because just about every time I bring up or respond to a topic I get the personal attacks instead of opinions on the topic. If Brian was just joking then I am out of line and I apologize. I would just like to, one time, come onto a tread and not receive personal abuse. Just I agree or disagree and why? A discussion. That's all.

"I'm pretty sure that's illegal, even in the US (I live in Norway, and I know it's illegal here, it's called false advertising." On this I find it difficult to disagree with you. I was just amazed at the attitude. And when I found out it was coming from the Director of Sales and Marketing I knew that was the end of that. This is the leadership of Eovia. You want to talk about false advertising, you should read the thread on - Curious about Carrara's claims about art done with Carrara. "Although, if you really want that plug-in, you are entirely allowed to give Eovia hell about it." Again, I find it hard to disagree with you. I'm still incensed about it to this day. Prior to this I had two similar incidences with DAZ. Both times I showed the rep I was on the phone with where they could find the advertised item on their web site. Both times the rep said yep, there it is; and we will honor it. (They also said they were going to fix it). Now that's a company that stands behind itself. I just couldn't believe it when Eovia's Director of Sales and Marketing tells me they won't honor the advertised price on their web site after I showed them where they could find it.

sailor_ed ( ) posted Mon, 14 March 2005 at 7:34 AM

Eovia has been taken over by the bean counters and it is dividing some of the forum into two camps: Defenders and Detractors. I think controversey is healthy but if it gets too personal I think we will all lose.

Nicholas86 ( ) posted Mon, 14 March 2005 at 9:58 PM

Really was just asking when the 50% deal was. And what it was on. And was joking. Brian

Everything gets taken over by bean counters. Still, I believe that if they concentrate on putting out a good, solid product, they have a lot more beans to count. I blame investors who act as if they only survive from P&L to P&L. Fund the thing, get it right, and watch what happens. Personally, I'd demo this product. The stores haven't floorplanned 3D software since RD4 or 5...shame.
