Subject: FYI Poser 6

Hi All,

I email tech at CL about some features I hoped would be included when I signed up for the new version. I asked about HT compatibility, FF speed & 3rd party add-ons. I thought you may interested in their response.

"Dear Mr. Lorenz,

While we weren't able to make Poser 6 multithreaded (we tried, but it's a nontrivial task to rewrite that much code- we're still working on it though) nor were we able to do much to the Firefly engine (we're licensing it so any changes have to be made in conjunction with the original developer, and that takes time) I can say that Poser 6 certainly supports hyperthreaded processors in that it runs on them- we've eliminated the troublesome data execution prevention bug that plagued Poser 5 users on 64-bit machines running XP.

Also, we've tested Poser 6 with third-party figures and they work just fine- since we didn't change the library structure or the file format, we didn't anticipate any trouble there and sure enough anything that works in Poser 5 will work just as well in Poser 6. And, like Poser 5, Poser 6 allows you to have multiple Runtime folders, so you can link your Poser 5 (or 4) Runtime into your Poser 6 Library palette and use the stuff you've already installed without having to move any files or reinstall a bunch of stuff."

I hope this helps!

Thanks for posting this. Good to know that 3rd party model will still work. I hoped for a more flexible library system though. Oh well... :)

Interesting. They didn't change the library structure? Sure looks different!

Well, The Library may look different in the browser, but that doesn't nessisarily mean that the actual folder structure is any different.

I'd be happy if the more flexible library from the screenshots just meant that Poser libraries would acknowledge shortcuts. That could be very handy for all those multicharacter textures etc

Another alternative is that the external morph targets are stored in the figure libraries, and that's why we saw the Head Morphs in the same library as the cloths - being treated as another type of figure object instead of as a pose

we've eliminated the troublesome data execution prevention bug that plagued Poser 5 users on 64-bit machines running XP In other words, to get a P5 bug fixed you have to buy P6... Grrrr....

They do now...if you're talking about Windows shortcuts. I've been using 'em for about a year now. I even have runtimes with nothing but shortcuts in 'em. :-)

Really? Do you do shortcuts to folders or to individual items? I've just had a quick play, but with no luck - a shortcut to a folder showed up but didn't open, and a shortcut to a pose didn't even show up. How do you set yours up, and what do they work for? This could really tidy up some of my structures

This is awsome, now how do you make a link.

It's easy. Basically, the same way you add anything to your Poser library. From the top level of the library (the one where you can see the Downloads folder), click the + sign. You can then browse your hard drive to find the new runtime. (Add the folder that contains the new runtime, not the runtime folder itself.)

JohnRickardJR, I've done both folders and individual items. From windows explorer, I make a shortcut and copy it to where ever I want it to go. Items that don't reference files outside it's runtime usually work without modification. Others, you should modify the file references to absolute paths ... which is a breeze in Correct Reference Pro.
