Welcome back AS :) That's a true AS style render again :) I missed those. Before deleting dracs posts though, I'd like to say, if you ever get the chance to get your hands on some more professional/up-to-date 3Dprograms I wouldn't hesitate, you've got the talent to do beautifull things with 'em and it's so much easier to make some bucks with more industry standard programs too ;)

Well, I AM working on a rusty animation.... ------------------ I had been thinking for a while, I would one day purchase C4D...now I'm leaning towards ZBrush 2, and promising myself to truly learn Wings, lol. Yet, I believe (and hope) we will get some sort of traditional modeling abilities in B6. (fingers crossed) AS

I'm really gunna sound anti-bryce here, but I'm gunna say if you want to push the limit of your skills and if you want to get to a level where you can make money with the artwork you produce using C4D or 3DSmax or Zbrush or even Wings would be a really good step in the right direction. I've always thought I'd just stick with bryce and show the world I can make kick-ass artwork in old software too, but now that I got my hands on 3dsmax it's become painfully clear to me that bryce as we know it is too far behind to ever really catch up before my chances to establish myself in the professional 3D community have long gone. Unless there's gunna be a real miracle happening over at DAZ I'll have a really dusty copy of Bryce 5 standing on my shelve in one or two years. Sure, I can do a lot in bryce, but it just takes way too long that way lol

Ah, you can love Bryce and still admit its limitations. Brycers NEED a tradtional modeler (eventually). We might get something like that in B6, but for now Wings is truly THE best FREE program for anyone to learn as a first step. ZBrush is just amazing in its organic modeling, yet C4D gets my vote for best "package" 3D program, (for those that are taking that first step beyond Bryce). (Meaning, C4D has a great price for its power) AS

I still use bryce actually. Mostly for the terrain lab and making materials (for import a la photo texture). I think the thing that swayed me to C4D (apart from Kromekat's and Cartesius's works was the lighting control. Being able to create and edit meshes though is a big advantage (especially with Poser 4 figures!). @TB, your quest, should you chose to accept it; is to create a crest for the order. (grin)

Rayraz, I hear you on your points, but equally, I have and still do on occasion use Bryce for paying jobs! - I'll have to post a couple of recent ones in my gallery. Undoubtedly, eventually you need to get a real polygon modeller of some sort, and there is no denying that rendering time in Bryce is very painful compared to something like C4D, but like Incarnadine, I must confess I feel a certain longing to be back in more 'innocent' times with Bryce - I was at my most creative and explorative with that app I think! - once you get into some hardcore poly modeling, you can almost forget what it's like to construct a scene in Bryce in the same amount of time. Brycers - I still love ya! ;)

I agree, I have often noticed I have done weaker compositions with Cinema than with Bryce! - must work on that!

We can so easily get caught in the scene is there to support the modelling and not the modelling is there to support the scene. I am not knocking anyone's modelling skill, but for me the iamge and it's story has to be the first priority. (I still stand in awe of those who really get into the modelling though whether here or over in the C4D forum.) BYW, kromekat, was that your fanfilm project on slashdot the other day?!
Pass no temptation lightly by, for one never knows when it may pass again!
Yes - Slashdot, and the front page of Yahoo.com! - the panickstruck server (the production company site) took some 134 million hits in a very short space of time, and folded! A new server is coming on tonight in preparation for the actual movie, which is still a month away from release! - it's amazing how much attention this is getting prior to release - god knows what it will be like next month!!! ;D
