Subject: CL site updated for Poser 6!!!

gtrdon ( ) posted Mon, 14 March 2005 at 6:55 PM

What about morphing? DAZ has that injection Pose stuff that seems to beat the heck out of the limited morph dials that Don & Judy has for creating new characters. Will P6 character have more capability.......Than P5 I feel like a kid waiting for a Christmas toy!!!

Belladzines ( ) posted Mon, 14 March 2005 at 9:53 PM

can't wait for P6 personally... all this new stuff...

operaguy ( ) posted Mon, 14 March 2005 at 10:40 PM

dtrdon, There has been as yet no official word on the morph sets for the P6 characters. We have not even seen the wireframe of the body mesh yet. Will there be extensive morphs? I would bet on it. By the way, you can get a spectacular set of morphs for Judy by purchasing a package ($12.50)called "Eternal Judy" in the MP here, by 3Dream. It gives the model 746 morph targets, and my opinion is that Judy+EJ beats V3+V3Morphs(more than $12.50) in all categores. And that includes the 'bustline' category. ::::: Opera :::::

Thing with the cyber world - there are always new possibilities and endless ones... after V3 and M3.... Jessie and James.... but the same characters and textures selling for V3 and M3 will be used on J & J... no loss there no? and i cant wait for La Roo - always wanted her.... the possibilities!!

the same characters and textures selling for V3 and M3 will be used on J & J Actually, I don't think we know that yet. I haven't seen any mention of texture compatibility yet. And I really doubt that morphs will be compatible as the geometry has to be the same for that.

Belladzines ( ) posted Tue, 15 March 2005 at 12:09 AM

true... forgot about the morphs.. do apologise

DCArt ( ) posted Tue, 15 March 2005 at 12:22 AM

No need to apologize, LOL. I just thought you might get a lot of people asking "Where did you see that!" So I thought I would stop the stampede before it started. ;-)

Dave-So ( ) posted Tue, 15 March 2005 at 6:18 AM

IMO, Judy's body looks better thanmost of the other figures. I almost bought EJ more than once...maybe I should...but with the new figures coming over the last hill, perhaps I should save my cash and see what they bring

Two thing that seem promising me to me are the edge smoothing and the seperation of diffuse and specular in the lighting. If I'm not mistaken the smoothing is based on an angle, like the way UVMapper Pro uses an angle to split welded vertices and allow hard edges. This feature will let you pick the angle (usually less than 45 degrees)that the smoothing oocurs. Less than the number and the edge is smooth, greater and it is creased. The neat thing about the lights is now I can finally do the neo-tokyo renders I've always wanted where there are dozens of specular highlights without having to worry about washed-out diffuse lighting. Throw in the point lights, and P6 is going to be the bestest!

Got an email from CL today... Download Preorders Electronic download orders are scheduled to begin processing at approximately 9AM PST on March 21, 2005. Customers should begin receiving confirmation emails with their Poser 6 download details as the orders are processed, but it will take some time to process all the preorders, so please be patient if you do not receive an email right away. We expect all download preorders to be processed within 24-48 hours. Physical shipments will leave first thing on the 21st apparently but i didnt read that part since i preordered the download..

aeilkema ( ) posted Thu, 17 March 2005 at 4:51 PM

Got it too.... don't forget the note, it's an important one. Note: We have secured additional bandwidth to accommodate the anticipated volume of downloads in our Web Stores during the first few days after release. However, please be patient if you experience difficulty with your download, and try again during off-peak hours before contacting customer service.

Grasshoppers may be patient, but I expect this crowd to be spending their work time Monday clicking on the site every 15 minutes.

Hmm.. I wonder if I can save shipping by camping in their parking lot?

(just kidding)*

Carolly *It is supposed to rain Monday, so camping would be less than ideal.

Yes, the people who picked the download option will get it at least a week earlier than the rest of us. Sigh. But I'm hoping it will arrive sooner than April. I have some vacation time to kill before April 1. :-)

hauksdottir ( ) posted Thu, 17 March 2005 at 9:49 PM

April? I'll waterproof my tent.

PapaBlueMarlin ( ) posted Thu, 17 March 2005 at 11:35 PM

Hmmm...I don't understand why they couldn't have prepared for the boxed sets to be received on the same day that the downloads go up...

kuroyume0161 ( ) posted Fri, 18 March 2005 at 12:14 AM · edited Fri, 18 March 2005 at 12:16 AM

What do you mean by 'received'? How many days do you think they can guarantee for shipments to arrive? Will they all arrive exactly 3 days, 2 hours, 7 minutes after shipment (all shipped from the around the world simultaneously)?

There is no possible way to coordinate shipment arrivals with the instantaneous world-wide availability of the download version.

ETA: And what an uproar will be heard if people's credit cards are charged on the 21st but they are made to wait three, five, or seven days before being able to download. The launch date is the launch date - if shipment were instantaneous, this would be a moot point...

I'm still hoping that they'll send the boxed version out sooner than they anticipate. Companies often give themselves a wider margin than they actually need, because there are strict federal laws governing the mail order business.

kuroyume0161 ( ) posted Fri, 18 March 2005 at 12:43 AM

Well, unless they're shipping tomorrow... :)

No, I don't expect them to ship tomorrow. But they're shipping to DR first, which according to their estimate will take 5-7 days. DR will then ship it to us. I'm hoping it won't really take a week or more to get the product to DR. Usually shipping estimates are padded a bit. More than once, I've had the package arrive before the notice telling me it hadn't been shipped yet.

hauksdottir ( ) posted Fri, 18 March 2005 at 2:47 AM

Well, true... they could hold the downloads up until DR says that they have all the boxes packed, individually labeled, and sitting in the loading-dock with trucks lined up at the gates reving their motors. They could, but it would be mean. Why make the downloaders wait an extra week or two if the data is ready? They get it first. People who get hardcopies get something solid with manual that they can put stickie-notes all over, folded quick-start cards, flyers with special offers, clean CDs... whatever they tuck inside the box... and a box to keep it all together. I've had computers die on me often enough that having the real CDs is far preferable to a download. Carolly

kuroyume0161 ( ) posted Fri, 18 March 2005 at 2:51 AM

I must confess that I NEVER-EVER put stickie-notes all over my manuals!!! Only on the several hundred areas of interest! Harumph! ;0)

That's what CD/DVD-writers are for? I methodically, almost maniacally, collect updates, downloads, data and write archive DVDs when necessary. Still, the hardcopy is a good selling point and also has the advantage of verifiability.

This WIN98 box takes almost 2 hours to record a regular data CD with about 650MB. It is very pokey. Until a month ago I didn't have a machine which could record a DVD. The stuff I download, especially purchased items, get recorded... but I'd still rather have hard copies of the programs. :chuckle: And you are right about where the stickie-notes go. I'll even label the bits sticking out. Carolly

constantine_1234 ( ) posted Fri, 18 March 2005 at 7:14 AM

Hard copy manuals are a crap shoot. Too often the manuals are not really helpful. However, when they are it's better to let someone else do the printing. It's too confusing to read manuals on-screen, and switch back and forth from work screen to manual screen. The boxes get thrown out so there is room for humans to move around.

operaguy ( ) posted Fri, 18 March 2005 at 8:31 AM

I have my boxes of unused 3D software arranged artfully on a shelf face-forwared because I like the images on the cover, and it looks like I am super3Dgeekman, but it is all an ironic illusion. The violin on trueSpace and that crazy gorilla on Animation:Master are my favorites. ::::: Opera :::::

constantine_1234 ( ) posted Fri, 18 March 2005 at 1:49 PM

I made a choice between keeping all my boxes or having room for humans to move about freely. The boxes keep going out the door.
