Subject: Tushy or Bazooms--which is the better gallery draw?

I was struck the other day by a forum comment indicating a poster's predilection for the posterior. In my never-ending (and totally shameless) pursuit of gallery hits, I decided to test whether a thumbnail featuring a tush might not earn more hits than one featuring bazooms. I'll apprise you of my findings. Pookah P.S. This posting is an equally shameless act of self-promotion--feel free to disregard the matter entirely.

I'd guess bazooms, but will eagerly await the results of your study. ;)

LOL! I think your "steam room" series is the first time I've seen so many images ranked less than "excellent." One gets the feeling people are disappointed after they click on the thumbnail or something. ;-)

pookah69 ( ) posted Thu, 17 March 2005 at 6:37 PM

I like being ranked less than "excellent." It shows that perhaps viewers are putting thought into their response, instead of just being "nice". Now if only they'd express their reason for their ranking.

Jackson ( ) posted Thu, 17 March 2005 at 7:07 PM

I don't visit the galleries much but I figure you'd get more hits from women on a man's tush than on his chest. And more on a woman's breasts from men than on her butt. On the surface, it's just a matter of attraction. But it really goes back to our basic instinct to reproduce.

Citizen, stop trying to lure people with silly thumbnail tricks. if you want hits ,...be honest about your intentions and dont waste time posting in any gallery other than the pinups. NONE of my thumbnails have actual nudity but the images are all in the pinup gallery a gallery that is surfed by people looking specificaly for nekkid chicks.

I don't know if this is what's going on here.....so these remarks are possibly OT to this thread........

.......but "gotcha!" type gallery thumbnails irritate me.

"Gotcha!" thumbnails are intended to "teach them a lesson" by baiting the trap with the allure of one thing, and then handing out a lump of coal instead.

Oh, yeah.....that's such an original idea. And it really serves to "teach them a lesson", alright.

After they've been properly taught, then they'll be so ashamed of themselves that they'll never look at another pin-up again. For sure.

Works every time. Every, single time.

If one is opposed to a thing, then one should stand flat-footed, and say so outright. One cannot "trick" others into agreeing with you. Nor can one "trick" others into seeing the error of their ways. People have to be convinced of something in their own minds. Otherwise, tricks merely comprise a self-indulgent exercise in ego-stroking on the part of the trickster.

"In my never-ending (and totally shameless) pursuit of gallery hits" Well, at least you were honest about it. I'm not sure why it's so important to get hits or comments but to each his/her own. I know this, if your art is good people will view it. Once they see a pic you've made that they like they'll look for more of yours, regardless of the thumbnail. Why not just shrink the entire image and use that as the thumbnail, then you've covered all bases once and for all. If this is a hits thing then just come right out and make the topic "please view my gallery, I need some sort of validation" and be done with it. Myself, I'd rather get no comments than to have to drum them up using thumbnail tricks or posts in the forum. I'd doubt their sincerity if that were the case. Good luck with whatever it is you're seeking.

I just see Pookah69's experiments as being a bit of fun, a bit of tail-pulling to see who jumps. Amusing how many people are happy to leap, IMHO. There are so many things in th world that are so much more worthy of being annoyed than "misleading" thumbnails. bonni

Ben_Dover ( ) posted Thu, 17 March 2005 at 11:33 PM

Well then I'd like to request a particular experiment. We've determined that some breast thumbs draw attention, some do not. Why might that be? Artist name? Size of breast? Nipple color or appearance? How about an in-depth study on what lighting or effect is best on a breast thumb when it comes to drawing attention. Perhaps even turn it into a breast thumb tutorial. Inquiring breasts would like to know. ;)

XENOPHONZ ( ) posted Thu, 17 March 2005 at 11:34 PM

It's not so much the misleading thumbnail itself that's irritating.

It's the intent to "teach them a lesson" that grates. Along with a subtle assumption of smug, smirky superiority.

If one thinks something, then one should say it up front.

IMHO.

I'm with Bonni. I don't think he wants hits, or to teach anyone a lesson. He's just having a bit of fun. Self-indulgent it may be, but fun usually is. That's kind of the point of fun. ;-) It's not like he's posting them in the pinup gallery, after all. If he were, there might be cause for complaint.

XENOPHONZ ( ) posted Thu, 17 March 2005 at 11:58 PM

I don't think he wants hits, or to teach anyone a lesson. He's just having a bit of fun. As I stated in my first post in this thread, I don't know what the actual intentions are here. Hits, fun, or "teaching lessons"......it's all one to me. But I've seen enough people using "gotcha!" thumbnails to inspire me to take this little opportunity to deride the practice.

I've said it before....but just in case if I didn't make the matter clear.....until such time as you choose to inform us of your motives, then I haven't a clue as to what those mysterious motives might be.

Although an implied desire to evoke a reaction -- any kind of reaction -- appears to be included in the mix.

If so, then you've succeeded.

I also like the "180 degree Reverse-Rotational Psychoanalysis" which says that "your reaction to my ploy shows me what kind of a person you are".

Pardon me while I triangulate myself over the fray.........it's always best to view matters from above the rest. In this way, one can see the tops of everyone else's heads, and thus can know precisely what they are about.

shrug The ploys themselves give hints, too.

As for my being irritated -- I am irritated by attempts to show others the error of their ways through the use of misdirection. If for no other reason than the fact that this tactic is about as effective as sharpening knives with rubber. It doesn't work.

I despise tactics that don't work.

But your actions irritating me? Nahhh.....it's all in good fun. Or so I've been told.

The pursuit seems harmless enough.

FishNose ( ) posted Fri, 18 March 2005 at 8:00 AM

Neither tits or butt necessarily give best hits. Too direct a thumb may scare people off, in fact. Something that shows a cutout part of a nude/semi nude body, a nice curve, or something that looks a lot like cleavage, a flaring thigh or a nice waist - all sorts of things. There is no hard, fast rule for this. In fact, good lighting and color in the thumb also means a lot - logically, since it is an indication of quality and less chance of hitting a dud image. :] Fish

Okay...since you've asked (and thanks for expressing interest!), here's my motive: To connect with other intelligent, insightful souls on this forum with whom I can engage in debate, thereby learning more about them and about myself. Connecting with people in a meaningful way--emotionally, intellectually, physically-- is the only thing of value in life, of this I am convinced. I know too many people who have amassed great wealth, and are among the most miserable of souls. This forum posting, as well as the posting of my images and their accompanying thumbnails, provide me an unusual means for revealing who I am, and through your response, who you are. I've enjoyed connecting with both xenophonz and elizabyte, (and others). I suspect I'd enjoy having coffee with elizabyte. I suspect xeonophonz and I might continue to antagonize each other in person, but perhaps in some weird, mutually constructive way. Thanks!

Acadia ( ) posted Fri, 18 March 2005 at 10:02 AM

It depends on the group you are targeting. Female boobies and tushes will garner more views by men, lesbians and bisexual females. Male nudity or semi nudity will get more hits from females and gay males. For some reason many men are so homophobic that they can't even look at an image of a nude male.

:roll eyes: Some people collect stamps, others collect hits. One collection has value, even years later. I'm sooooo thankful that I don't have to go into the galleries anymore. Part of my job was having to click on every single thumbnail even though I'd rather not reward tricksters for shabby ploys. I too am thankful that you don't have to go to the galleries either--spares me your judgement on what I choose to post there. Comments like "shabby ploys" and "wrong path" add nothing to the conversation thread at this stage, but whatever floats your boat is good with me, I guess....well, maybe not. I will add nothing more to this thread, so if you need to get in the last word, feel free to do so.

lmckenzie ( ) posted Fri, 18 March 2005 at 1:40 PM

OK, I'm completely confused. Maybe it's because I cliked the link and saw the whole image before the thumbnail. Where's the trick, what's the deception? The title says butt and there's a butt, so what (hey, it rhymes)? If the "trick" is you thought it was a female butt then you've been looking at too many pinups of the old East German women's Olympic team.
