Present! So... does this mean there were only three pages to the Inverse Kinematics tutorial?

igohigh ( ) posted Wed, 12 January 2005 at 12:34 PM

Don't forget to NEVER leave P5 pointing to a P4 Runtime! My P5 takes sooooo long to open to begin with but if I leave it pointing at a P4 Runtime folder when I close P5 then it has taken up to 20+minutes to just to launch P5 the next time!!!!! (both on same drive)

bad mood... dragging feet... finds a seat Why would one want 'multiple runtimes'? Did I miss something?

Rollike ( ) posted Sat, 15 January 2005 at 6:26 PM

Well multiple runtimes does it a lot easyer for me to keep my poser simple. Now i can find my stuff. V3 has her own runtime with all her clothes, posese and so, Mike has his own runtime, koshini and so on. When I am using V3 i only has to use that runtimefolder :-) I've also made a Test-runtime folder. All the new freebies i find here at renderosity hits the test folder first, and then i can move it to an other runtime when i decide if it is worth keeping and I've made sure that it unzippes correctly. So multiple runtimes makes it a lot easier for me to work in poser :-)

Tiny ( ) posted Sat, 15 January 2005 at 7:20 PM

Thank you Rollike, I am convinced. :o) Guess I'll stay this class then... sigh.... as long as doc don't go pass the hours.... ;o)

I often have multiple runtimes.

  1. Run (uphill) to the pub: 1.5 mins. Have a beer or 2.
  2. Run back home (downhill, obviously): 1.0 mins. Eat hearty meal.
  3. Run (sort-of) back up to the pub: 2.5 mins (the last bit is usually more of a rather puffed jog than a run). Have some more beers.
  4. Stagger (not run) back home (anywhere between 3.5 mins & 2 hrs.. depends...).
  5. Run to the bathroom for much needed relief (hopefully less than 0.5 mins, else accident is likely).
  6. Crawl to bed....time here is totally dependent on whether or not I fall asleep before reaching bedroom.. anywhere between 0.5 secs and 8+ hrs...)

Doc, not meaning to ask a question out of line but have you ever tried just loading everything in to "Downloads?" After over a year of problems I configured a 20gig runtime in the download folder. Everythng loads fast and thigs are cool. The only quirk is that I MUST exit by pointing the red dot back to the default P5 runtime or it will crash on reload and I'll have to start deleting pref files. Just curious if you've seen anything on this approach??? thanks Doc!...(sits quietly back in his chair.) -jay

Fantastic geep, and there was me thinking of moving my Poser5 to another HD when i get Poser6 but now with the miracle of Multiple Runtimes i think i will keep my poser5 on one drive and install Poser6 on the other and have P6 link to P5's Runtime... Ohh the joy.... Keep up the Excellent Tut's Geep, Im a big fan and have a few saved to my Hd for reference. Cheers.

Getting old and still making "art" without soiling myself, now that's success.

with some 3rd party installs, i get a generic library icon in poser 6. (SR2). specifically with many of the daz items. i've read that there is a "Build Folder Menu" somewhere that would help, but i cannot find it anywhere. i really need to see all of my library previews. it is just too hard to guess what is what. help!

Do you mean the little shrugging guy ???

"Do you mean the little shrugging guy ???" Exactly. that little guy is really starting to bother me. a model, pose, or material viewed with the DAZ Studio library browser does show the preview, but not in poser 6. this is my last current hurtle in poser before i can begin a reasonable workflow. the whole point of poser for me is to be able to include people in my 3d architectural visualations. if i cannot see a preview in the library then i am just lost in the jungle that is my runtime folder. so many shrugging little guys! the Poser SR2 version "read me" includes a mention of a new menu choice. "build folder menu" has been added to Poser. where is this choice in poser? also, i saw the edit you listed above to the libraryprefs.xml did that. no change. i even found a mention of an old application called "macconverter" that is supposed to help, but it is only for MacOS 9 and i am on version 10.4.5 with no classic OS available... sigh. its supposed to fix "damaged poser files" or some such. but all referenced software versions are years out of date... "macos 9" "poser 4" etc. thanks for the help. :D
