Subject: Vue5 Infinite- cel shaded look

cralph ( ) posted Wed, 23 March 2005 at 2:41 PM · edited Sun, 24 November 2024 at 1:46 AM

I would like to see some examples of the way cel shading looks using Vue5 Infinite. I've heard about it, but can find no images or tutorials. Anybody out there try this yet? And can it be animated?
Inquiring minds want to know (before shelling out the $$$ for the sidegrade!)
;)

Look at the Vue Infinite page at e-on's website. Some examples are there. I also posted a couple of images I made in a previous post as well. Here is another one.

It is just a matter of replacing materials by cellshaded materials and tweak the atmosphere. I will try to make a tutorial when I get a chance. Here is another example - I can't find the thread where I posted that.

Thank you so much!

I should also add that this cell shaded look is also possible, to some extend, with Vue 4, vue 5 and vue 4 professional.... except for the outline (although Vue 4 professional has a python script that does almost that). Vue Infinite just makes it a lot easier with the option to shade according to angle of incidence.

Here is what I meant - done with Vue Professional.

And this one with Vue 4. In these two pictures, the gradients of shadows on the materials could easily be made sharper by playing on the 'sharpness' parameter in the Effects tab of the materials... but you get the idea.

Correction - I meant 'contrast' parameter - not 'sharpness'.

agiel, I have Vue Infinite, but how the hell do you make it look like a cartoon. I know about the python script to createthe black outline, but the textures are what I cannot work out, and I can't seem to find a tutorial, or explanation in the manual. If you have a page number in the manual I have missed, I'll be most greatful. Thanks Gareth:)

I am actually working on a tutorial :) All my screenshots are ready. I only have to find time to load them up and add comments.

Oh. OK:) Thank you. I have been pulling my hair out trying to work it out. I cannot wait:) Gareth

It's coming slowly. Here is a teaser of what you should be able to do with it. The tutorial itself is focused on the bunny.
