I've found a pic (in the Vue Gallery) which exactly mirrors our feelings about the Bryce mess... :-D

you're conveying feelings about bryce 6 coming out by showing a vue render? BURN HIM!!!!!! drac (that actually looks a whole lot like a bryce render)

attileus ( ) posted Thu, 24 March 2005 at 2:17 PM

Yeah, drac, to my horror I spend more and more time at their gallery...can't resist Global Illumination... :D

Yeah, with Poser 6 out now, I keep thinking when will there be a Bryce 6. Does anyone have knowledge what's the current status to Bryce, what company has it now, and if they are doing anything to further develop it? --Death

I think you'll have to wait until they get 5.5 out. It's in the works, but unlike Poser, Daz doesn't announce things that far ahead of times (cuts down on the forum witch-hunts, or something..;)

Sorry, I didn't want to start another DAZ-bashing thread; I only thought that this particular pic expresses my feelings concerning our poor software. ;)

"...our poor software." Yes, that's how I've been feeling, particularly since Poser 6 came out. I've been looking through the Bryce Gallery and the number of images being posted have dropped off so much it's depressing. I originally started using Bryce in order to put Poser figures in an environment that Poser couldn't provide. Well, environments and props in Poser have come a long way, baby. I'll buy Bryce 5.5 whenever it comes out and I'll buy 6.0 when THAT comes out because I like the program. I'm so glad that Bryce was saved, but I can't help but wonder when we'll get something truly new to play with. I didn't realize how much I needed "new". Bryce 5.5 will basically be a tweak with faster rendering. Fine. I'll be happy with faster rendering for now. But, man, I sure wish I had some new features to play around with. That seems like it's going to be YEARS down the road. If Bryce 6 is released within twelve months after the 5.5 upgrade I'll be amazed. Overjoyed, but amazed.

DAZ has been very busy cleaning the garbage out of the Bryce code. Imagine... One programer "What's this line do?" A different programmer "I dunno." First programmer "Think we should take it out?" The second programmer "um, yeah." A few minutes later..... First programmer "hey, do you remember that line I took out?" Second programmer "um, yeah." First programmer "er, no. I mean do you remember what it was? Because now everything renders blue."

JackStr8 ( ) posted Thu, 24 March 2005 at 10:13 PM

Actually, you just made me think of something. Rather than cleaning up Bryce 5 code, would it have been faster and better to build up Bryce 4 code? Ahhh, y'know what? It's late (the time, not just Bryce 5.5--haw haw) and I'm tired. I'm hanging in there, folks. I just wish everyone was shouting, "Bryce 5.5 will OWN your A$$!". I love this program and I want it to own my A$$. G'night, and keep the faith y'all.

AgentSmith ( ) posted Fri, 25 March 2005 at 1:32 AM

Bryce 5 code was slapped on top of Bryce 4 code. And, not well, I might add. I don't know programming, but after this (5.5 betatesting) I TRULY feel starting from scratch with a Bryce 6 will be FAR easier. But, then again, since the Bryce 5 code is all nice and (near) perfect now... AS

It's more or less the pain of waiting that's causing the combination of excitement and negativity. I'm reminded of a song by Howard Jones (lyrics slightly modified) because we know it's...right...beyond...our...reach... You can look at the menu but you just cant eat You can feel the cushions but you cant have a seat You can dip your foot in the pool but you cant have a swim You can feel the punishment but you cant commit the sin And you want Bryce and it wants you We want and we want And you want Bryce and it wants you No one, no one, no one ever is to blame Sing it with me, Shrek! (sorry, wrong movie) ;)

Lol JackStr8...exactly! :-)

I do have some programming under my belt C++ with a little Windowdoze a couple years in college and I dont understand the logic behind having to buy out Bryce if you had to dump all the code to start anew! In object oriented coding everything is modular, meaning you can start with variables that can be transferred to other subroutines that can manipulate those variables to give you something else and not touch the original variables, thats the main purpose of object oriented programming, unlike Basic where its a linear translation. Every programming department can work on their own subroutine in the program later to be interfaced or interfaced and updated as the program goes along. Like when using plug-ins or modifying a square into a jet fighter. Every sub step is a subroutine, thus building an undo history. Having to start all over with the Bryce code means having spent all that money to buy the original was for naught! All they needed to do was give it a different name unless they felt keeping the name was worth the expense.

Very good, logical point! AS
