The ripple or herring bone pattern is probably a shadow artifact. Try adjusting the "shadow bias" in the light properties. Turning it up keeps object from casting shadows on themselves. I don't know if you are moving form P4 or P5, you may also want to be sure "Smooth polygons" is unchecked for this object. It can mess up some meshes, especially mechanical objects such as your Enterprise. A new P6 feature you may find handy is crease angle. It works kind of like auto smooth in Max. Any edge sharper than the crease angle will be rendered sharp. Nerd3D

I'm curious. Does it work automatically on all meshes in the scene, or is it something you have to apply manually with the grouping tool?

Little Dragon, I gather you are asking about the Crease Angle. Objects created in previous versions of Poser and imported OBJ are automatically assigned the default crease angle set in prefrences. This comes out of the box at 80 deg. You can set the default any way you like it. Poser 6 objects have a crease angle setting in the properties that allows you to set it for each object or body part. So, to answer you question it kind of works both ways. There is a scene wide default that you can over ride for each object. PLUS Poser 6's grouping tool allows you to assign smoothing IDs to groups created with the grouping tool. Just like smoothing groups in most other 3D apps. This gives you complete control over the way an object is smoothed. You have s semi-automatic method with crease angle and a micro-managed method using the grouping tool. No longer will models need to have fancy co-planared geometries to make Poser happy. Nerd3D <-- Really happy about that little goodie.

Warp 15 sounds good about right now. For the delivery of my P6 box, that is.

I like this model... Is it available somewhere?

Excellent. Thank you, nerd, for that explanation.

I've been using smoothing groups for years in MilkShape, and it amuses me to no end to hear that Poser has finally caught up with my $25 modeling app in that regard.

There are many outstanding trek ship 3d objects out there.. one has to only seek. Same with Battlestar Galactica, Star Wars, and Farscape. Most will take some fiddling to get into poser properly, but if they are obj based (or can be converted) then they should work.

Hehe back in 97 I made a short animation in Truespace with all the free SF models I could get. It was the "opening animation" for a local Scifi con (very small) at Iowa state.

It had all these ships from different universes fighting eachother, Star wars VS Star trek, VS Galactica, and B5. I had Daleks fighting storm troopers in the death star, and eventually the earth got blown up... all set to the BGM from "Bubblegum Crisis" It was fun. :D
In the end there were very few people that saw it as the Anime room wasn't popular with the D&D crowd there, but when I showed it at the local Comic book store it went over well. :D

where can i get that model?

Did you check the links little dragon posted? Also, you need permison to "poserize" and rerelease someone else's model, unless they have a free redistribution clause in their readme file.
