Does anyone have a "Diskspace" problem rendering in Windows 2000? This is really frustrating... Most times, but not every time I try to render to a seperate window, 72dpi 1500xwhatever or higher, I get an "Insufficient diskspace to render at this resolution" message. This doesn't happen on my wifes computer running Windows'98. I have over 30 gigs of hard drive space and I have 584mb of virtual memory swap space setup over two drives. I have 256mb of ram, so I just can't fathom the problem. Is there anyone out there with a similar problem? Please... Any help appreciated... I am used to rendering at 3000X3000 at 300dpi... Many thanks for your time, Colm...

It could be your hard drive is fragmented and win2k can't allocate enough connected memory space. You may have 584 megs of virtual space but it maybe fragmented. Try doing a disk defrag. That or increase you virtual space.

Yes, do the defrag, and let win2000 deal with the memory, when peeps starts allocating ram in win2k they sometimes do more harm than good. 8^) Marque

Thanks... I defrag about every 14 days and that doesn't seem to be the problem as this has been happening for a few months. In that period I have totally cleaned up my system with a complete re-install of win2k. Now the virtual memory suggestion from 'Marque'... I never new that win2k could be set up like 98/95 to let the os deal with VM by itself. How can I do this??? I set this up in - right click - My computer/Advanced tab/Performance... There is no option in the dialogue for letting Windows do this by itself... Thanks again. Any further help appreciated, Colm...

Heya Colm, I use Win2k and have not had any problems. Have a similar set up, 256 ram, 40 gig hard, and 700mb for the page file. One thing I might have different is I recently moved the page file to its own 2gb partition. However, I never had any problems rendering prior to this, but I have seen better render speed with the page file set in its own partition. Maybe the root of this lies elsewhere. What type of videocard are you using?

Can't remember where I saw it, but I will check it out and get back to you. Marque

Ok... Thanks for your replies. I have heard from the Poser egroup that the problem lies in the fact that I am running Poser 4.02. Apparently it is not really set up for W2k and Poser4.03 is... I guess I will have to update... Thanks again, Colm...

Yep, the update solved my problems. Wish I'd had a chance to read this right away, I'd have saved you two days.

I too am having Rendering problems - the following is the message that appears - Error Message - Insufficient Disk Space to Render at Current Resolution This erratic problem started the middle of last week. Prior to that, I routinely rendered complex scenes with multiple figures at 2400 by 2400 at 300 dpi. Now, half the time, I can not render a single figure at 1600 by 1200 at 150 dpi without getting the Insufficient Disk Space message. About 80% of the time, the error message appears the other 20% of the time it renders correctly. It doesnt seem to matter whether I have just started a new session, have recently re-booted etc. There does nor seem to be any pattern to the problem. I have tried clearing the .INI file, re-installing Poser, and searching the registry. (Did not find any Poser entries in registry - ??) My network and tech guys have been over this computer and have not found any problems. All other applications work fine Im routinely editing other large >1 GB graphics files and videos without any problems. The machine is about a month old. We've tried Defrag as was suggested by Poser support and in the previous messages, but nothing has helped. Any luck on hunting this problem down? Please (!), we all really need to pressure Curious Labs to resolve this issue!!! It's definitely a wide spread problem!!!

I have similar problems with strange memory issues in Poser. Recently I loaded up Vicky (no texture) and tried to add a hair object from Kazburo that I had used many times before. It said the OBJ was messed up in the error message and that I was "out of memory." System resources showed 91% resources free. Scratching my head, I rebooted and tried again. Same result. Then I deleted the RSR for the hair file, rebooted, and tried again. Same thing. Highly annoyed, I rebooted one more time, and it magically worked. This time. I have plenty of swap space. I don't have tons of RAM or anything, but I had never had problems with Poser before. No viruses. I defragged. I have a couple of bad blocks on that disk, but they are marked as such. I am stumped, really. Sometimes Poser works for me, sometimes it doesn't. I have 4.03 on Win98.
