Subject: a word about rating here on renderosity - DREAMSPINNER

tekener ( ) posted Tue, 23 January 2001 at 6:01 AM · edited Thu, 14 November 2024 at 12:20 PM

yesterday i have gone to DREAMSPINNERS gallery and give some comments about the pictures. i give comments like "there are no shadows, the picture looks to flat, no depth. try reworking the lighting.". i think this is a helpful comment! but russ cock has deleted all of this comments! i ask you WHY? is this not an helpful comment? why rating pics her on renderosity? give all pics 10 points and dreamspinner will be happy. who cares if the picture deserves 10 points and if someone makes a REALISTIC rating, go to russ cock and let him delete the comment you dont want. i give 10 poins for REALLY good PICTURES not for every amateurs standard water, sky and mountain bryce picture. i think russ cock has not read a single of my comments, and that makes me sad. if you want only comments like "wow thts nice" then dont write "make helpful comments for improvment". instead write "make nice comments on every picture". after DREAMSPINNER saw some of my comments he makes malicious comments about my person (tekener sound like a broken record etc.) he makes a picture for the "critic god tekener" (he has deleted this pic yesterday) with malicious comments about me. i made my comments in a CORRECT form without any personal animosity. dreamspinner is not an artist like HOBBIT or other artist here on renderosity, he is an average bryce user (no more no less). how should i rate a pic from hobbit, if every dreamspinner pic MUST be rated 10 or the rating will be deleted?

Tekener, it would be one thing if you posted comments to a random sample of artists. But you did not. You singled out Dreamspinner and deliberately rated dozens of their images, many had previously had ratings of 10. Those actions appear to have been malicious and have been undone. Russell

Good lord, this post is in 3 different places.

this is your only comment? :-) ok, guys, rate all your pics 10 and be happy. if you want a realistic opinion on how you can improve your work dont ask at renderosity. i ask you russ, are my suggestions on dreamspinners pictures wrong? the lightning of most pics (talking about the bryce pics) is worse. look at the watcher pics, no ground shadow, textures are ugly (not proper scaled, tiling) and that deserves a 10 (you must be joking or be blind ;-). the size of the objects in many cases dont fit. i have a RIGHT of free speech and my comments are not malicious! i dont pick out dreamspinner, thats not true. but dreamspinner think he must make malicious comments about MY ratings. dreamspinner cannot stand the truth, thats it. it dont care if the picture previously had ratings of 10. you mean every men on earth must rate a pic the same?? if a pic has a rating of 10 it must be for eternity? dreamspinners pictures deserves a average rating of 4-6 thats imho a REALISTIC rating (or you must give other artists a rating of 20 and above).

Tekener, you made a simple mistake of rating TOO MANY pictures "negatively" in too short a period of time, triggering another Witch Hunt. We have these periodically. Also, you did this at a time when serious security problems have been noted at several Poser sites. Rating 103 images is not a cause for suspicion Rating 103 images with scores much lower than their average is a cause for mild suspicion. Doing this in a very short period of time (1 day or 1 weekend, from what I've seen) causes a LOT of suspicion, and makes it look like you have a vendetta. Honesty is good, but it should be used in moderation, let you unleash the Hounds of Render-war.

mhm, maybe you are right CharlieBrown. but im not on a vendetta! :-) maybe im on a crusade for REALISTIC RATINGS :-)

CharlieBrown ( ) posted Tue, 23 January 2001 at 12:55 PM

You wouldn't be the first. Nor the last. And most of us who try to force more realistic ratings tend to just give up and either not leave ratings, or only rate when we feel we MUST.

I am all for honest ratings, but at the same time I see no reason on earth for crashing someone's love-fest in the name of some idealistic crusade. My thoughts? If you don't agree with a love-fest, skip it. Why downgrade something when you know damn well all you're going to do is make the artist feel bad? Stick to the new items, where love-fests haven't had time to develop, and where most new artists are posting, those who want and appreciate criticism. -darth_Logice

"but im not on a vendetta! :-) maybe im on a crusade for REALISTIC RATINGS :-)" No offence, that sounds like a vendetta when you call it a crusade... Um, I too, like many are all for honest ratings on people's images, though I don't think by being Hyper-critical is a means to make a valid point. I think the ratings are subjective to be honest, and that the comments are what is of more value to the artist who did the work. The ratings are more for the viewer to offer their interpertive thoughts on how the artwork affected them, whereas the comments is a means for the viewer to make suggestions to the artist on how to better themselves. Just my thoughts... Jack

If you're on a crusade and deliberatly downgrading all 'perfect' 10's on this site, I wish you the best of luck. There are a couple of hundreds of them! Isn't it remarkable that none of these crusaders have ever uploaded an image of their own?....

ratings are subjective....and going through and knocking down one artists gallery has always struck me as bad form....... and as an example of the lunacy of that and the lunacy of ratings in general that is is Maira's sleeping witch over at R'otica. after receiving 35, yes count 'em 35 10's and winning the halloween competition, chosen by Maira's peers to be the winner... let's clarify that... the membership of the site voted her the winner and her work the best....3 months later along comes some divine sky pilot with no posted artwork and no previous postings to decide her work is good but not perfect... plunk his 8 on it and drop it 846 places on the best rankings now that strikes me as ludicrous.. though to Maira's credit it certainly doesn;t seem to have bothered her at all... but i think the time has come for ratings to pass into the hallowed mists of the past... and up until now i have been a supporter of rankings, because hey lets face it without rankings how do you group the best ranked gallery....LOL

Y'know... you CAN leave coments with the "no rating" option.

I dont think it was right to take down Tekeners comments. I went to DREAMSPINNERS gallery and would not have given any a ten. If someone doesnt want to be upset about a rating dont ask for one. If comments hurt ones feelings dont ask for one. Time to grow up folks. Some people seem to get favortism here and that should not happen.

I give out ratings very seldom. Now that we have the "No Rating" option - I leave comments with out ratings attached.
