Hello I really like new P6 options like integration of renderings with photos. There is my first attempt. I used two lights: IBL with AO and infinite for creation shadows consistent with shadows in the photo. For shadowcatching I used two boxes placed as floor and door. The result is maybe slightly too sharp (post filter size at 2) but for bigger renderings higher values may be a solution. I appreciate any comments and advices.

  1. The shadow on the door would be much sharper - see the patio overhang for reference). 2. The shadows on the figure should be sharp/contrasted. Again, see the shadows of the 'real' objects in the photo. 3. To my eye, the lighting on the figure doesn't seem to match that of the sun in the photo. This could be because of the lack of shadow definition on the figure. It is an excellent start and, unlike some other composite's that I've seen, at least you got the general direction of the light mostly correct for the figure's shadow casting. The sun is lower than you think. Just look at the angle of the shadow cast onto the wall by the overhang as compared to that of your figure to the shadow on the door.

If you make the figures texture a bit weaker, it would probably blend in better with the rest of the picture, too.

Thanks for your replies. I have changed shadows parameters and adjusted the "sun position" as it was advised. And I changed colour of the light imitating the sun so as to match warmer look of the rest of the photo. The main point is, of course, that the same photo is for background and for IBL and it does not reflect the whole environment so it must be corrected by additional lights and simultaneously it decreases usefulness of IBL in this case.

Better! :) IBL is definitely not an end-all of lighting in Poser. Remember that it is not HDRI, which actually contains extra-color information and uses it to get more realistic lighting. So far, I've found that complementing the IBL light with an infinite or point light at the same position as the greater light source (which, I'm guessing coincides with the IBL light direction (?)) compliments by adding the contrast, highlights that IBL seems to remove. So, although additional lights ideally decrease IBL usefulness, I think that they are a necessity. Think of IBL as the HDRI ambient color information and the other lights as pseudo HDRI luminance information.

Thanks :) You are right. I reach the same conclusion about positioning the lights in IBL mode. I have also discovered that additional (not IBL) lights don't create shadows when IBL is on (I am not sure if it is a real discovery or I simply missed something reading the manual). I use position of IBL light for creation of shadows and - of course - so as to create proper highlights the infinite light has to be in the same position. Despite wrong assumptions - infinite for shadows, I get the proper result - infinite for highlights. After 2 year break in working with Poser and after moving directly from P4 to P6 I consider P6 possibilities as really amazing. Thank you for your comments

Wow That pic is fabulous did you make your own stuff for the background??? I am impressed

The background is a photo taken during my holidays.

Thanks. It is south of France.

Ah. I was thinking Spain. :)
