This pic is in progress,it was gonna be a lot more detailed but p6 keeps freezing, everytime i try to put a material on the lamp post for one thing (from the included materials), so my question is how do i turn my shadows down AND anybody have a good rusty metal texture?

I have noticed that the point-lights' shadows are not very contollable. Unchecking "Cast Shadows" does not stop them from casting, and the dial seems to have no effect. Either I am missing something or the point lights are buggy. I will experiment further.

Hmm.. I haven't had any problems turning down shadow strength for point lights using the dial, and for me unchecking the cast shadows box works as intended. The main problem, and I'm sure this is my lack of understanding of point lights more than anything, is that the shadows cast seem very long and exaggerated if the light is even a few degrees off of a vertical overhead position.

Looking good. I'm not sure what to tell you about the shadows but I've got several rust textures if you need them.

There could be some extra factors involved with my point-light situation. I was using one in conjunction with an IBL light. They seem to interact in unpredictable ways. btw- I am having a great time exploring Poser 6. I do not expect it to be perfect. It is waayyy better than P5 was in it's first few weeks. I have much studying and experimenting to do.
