Subject: CuriousLabs treating long time customer very badly

RE: post 43 - curiouslabs We offered Rita the $89 price point, which was a lot lower than the $149 upgrade from Poser 4 she was requesting, so I am unsure as to what the price offer has to do with the situation here. Unfortunately, you all should note that she is legally not eligible for upgrade pricing, having already purchased and transferred her rights to upgrade pricing to another customer, but Curious Labs made a very special exception, not only granting her rights to upgrade, but at the early adopters price. I am unsure as to what else Curious Labs could do to make this situation better. Let us get it paid for and everything will be set right! operaguy and several others are willing to put the money together. Facilitate that purchase and delivery to Rita and CuriousLabs is redeemed :)

operaguy ( ) posted Thu, 07 April 2005 at 10:53 PM

Let there be no mistake...Curious Labs is already guiltless in my eyes and no 'redeeming' is needed. Unless other facts emerge, this is the purchase of a new license at $89.00 instead of $249.00 I IM'd Tina a few hours ago but she has certainly gone home for the evening. As soon as we connect tomorrow I'll execute the transaction and as chevy says just get it paid for. I'll find out from Tina what Rita should do to receive her license. I might suggest that others who wish to contribute to this effort....has anyone ever thought of a fund that could be amassed in a paypal contribution account (very simple to set up) that people could put small amounts in, for instance everytime they spend $49.99 on Vickie stuff they could send a dollor over....this fund could purchase upgrades and/or new licenses for people who want to get into Poser but can't swing it. Like an artist tools enpowering fund. ::::: Opera :::::

and since turning 40 my memory is not what it once was.

Yeah. Take my word for it: it's all downhill from there.

That's a good thought -- but like the groups of well-dressed business people that are occasionally seen eating lunch at soup kitchens, after driving up in a new Cadillac -- you'd have a lot of "fake takers".

Lest anyone misunderstand, I am not referring to anyone mentioned in this thread.

But you would see a lot of people who would be more than happy to take dirty advantage of any such arrangement.

Too bad. It's a nice idea.

I am unsure as to what else Curious Labs could do to make this situation better. Nothing that anyone could seriously expect. In fact, you've gone beyond the call of duty here, I think. Good job.

maybe Rita could be the person who screens those asking for help to purchase or upgrade. ::::: Opera :::::

Great idea, lets get Rita set up with P6. I am more than happy to help. Email me if there is anything at all I can do. Scott

shadow_dancer ( ) posted Fri, 08 April 2005 at 1:38 AM

okay just outta curiosity so because some one buys p6 with a upgrade from p5 it then makes their p 5 license invalaid ? so im not allowed to use my p5 anymore this make no sense and because i use p5 to upgrade to 6 does that mean i cant upgrade to p 7 with that same license/? imlost now she transfered a p5 to me in a legit sale so why does that make her p 4 invalid??????

scottl ( ) posted Fri, 08 April 2005 at 2:09 AM

I think what they are saying is that since she bought the upgrade from 4 to 5 if she upgrades again it must be from 5 to 6 and not from4. But since she sold her copy of 5 she cant upgrade from 5 anymore of course. And since she upgraded from 4 already she wasnt able to upgrade from 4 again. And despite what Tori has stated as far as I know this issue has NOT been long resolved and we are NOT misunderstanding the problem. Looks like we can get Rita an upgrade. But I still wont buy Poser6. At least not until I see a Poser6 image from Rita, and the bitter taste is gone. Scott

randym77 ( ) posted Fri, 08 April 2005 at 6:01 AM

I understand CL's stance on this. Can't have two people upgrading for the price of one. But...given the problems Poser 5 had, I think it would be reasonable for CL to allow people to upgrade twice from P4/PP. I have a feeling there are a lot of people who tried P5, found it didn't work on their systems, and sold it. Probably at a loss.

axeswipe ( ) posted Fri, 08 April 2005 at 7:53 AM

It is wonderful to see such beyond-the-call support from the community for such a wonderful person. In most other cases, we probably would have just heard "Sorry for your luck" and moved on, but those who have known Rita for years, know that she is worth the effort.

chevy ( ) posted Fri, 08 April 2005 at 9:04 AM

Re: post 60 - randym77 I sold my copy of 5 and transfered the license. I won't be getting 6 anytime soon, simply because 4 still does all I want :) CL should allow those who have a registered 4 and got the upgrade to 5, then transfered 5 away, to upgrade directly from 4 to 6. This is a good example of bad record keeping, imo. Rita has posted in the NG that this is being resolved and to please wait until she works out some technical issue. If she needs a hardware upgrade in order to run 6, I'm still game to help out.

Badco ( ) posted Fri, 08 April 2005 at 9:21 AM

I just want everyone here to know that Rita is not a charity case in any way shape or form. She is just like any one of us that just wanted the upgrade and was having trouble so we all wanted to try to help her out because we care about her. One other thing, if I upgrade to Poser6, then if I sell my Poser5 to John, then John will not be able to register the Poser5 that I sold him ? Then if John wants to upgrade to Poser6 then he can't do that either ? Wtf ? CL is saying that I can't resell my Poser versions without losing my upgrading capabilities ?

chevy ( ) posted Fri, 08 April 2005 at 9:22 AM

RE: post 58 - shadowdancer Rita used her P4 serial to upgrade to P5. CL thens marks that serial as used for upgrade and no longer valid to get an upgrade (a). Rita sold her P5 and transfered the serial to you. Rita then tried to do a P4 to P6 upgrade. The store website (DigitalRiver) said 'serial number not valid', but didn't explain why, see (a). So you can upgrade from P6 to P7, but not P5 to P7 as you used the P5 serial to get the P6 upgrade. IMO, all the serials used by a customer should be retained in their account info and marked with a note that explains the path of upgrade that user took, pointers to the account a serial was sold to, etc. It ain't hard to db info. DigialRiver may even not have had access to that info, just had a auto-response from CL's database that it wasn't valid. CL didn't do anything wrong other than dealing with Rita very very poorly by not clearly explaining this. Then we all got excited over her mistreatment and made a loud noise! I like banging pots together, also :)

Then if John wants to upgrade to >Poser6 then he can't do that either ? Right. Once a serial is used to upgrade, it is no longer valid for upgrade. And based on what CL has said on this, probably not for registration of P5, since you used it to upgrade! CL can't have a single serial used to upgrade multiple times.

Friday, April 8, 6:00 PM Pacific, USA While Tori from Curious Labs apparently received my IM, I did not receive a message back. My offer to help financially stands. If any involved pursue a solution, I may be contacted to participate. ::::: Opera :::::

Everyone here and on the ng are so sweet, but dear Hubby and I are set on paying for the upgrade ourselves so we humbly decline your offers to pay. (Senior pride you know)CL is giving me a wonderful deal and I am most appreciative. Still having a problem accessing the order because the numbers given do not work for me. Don't know why. Unfortunately Tori Porter who is helping me had to rush out of the office Friday and had asked me if I could wait until Monday. You see, her Dad had a heart attack. Those that know me, know family comes first, so waiting till Monday is no big deal. Maybe a prayer from you guys or at least a good thought will help her Dad pull through this difficult time.

best of fortune to you Rita, and we all look forward to (if you wish) an image of your work posted here some time in the future. ::: og :::

chevy ( ) posted Sat, 09 April 2005 at 9:37 AM

Very glad to see CL did the right thing. Some may feel that Rita got a better deal than she deserved, but it comes down to public relations, imo. Ok, folks, the show is over, go and render something :)

operaguy ( ) posted Sat, 09 April 2005 at 9:57 AM

Curious Labs did nothing wrong in the first place, and an extraodinary thing in the end. I agree, lets all go play with their fine product. ::::: Opera :::::

Rita ( ) posted Sat, 09 April 2005 at 10:07 AM

I sure hope no one feels any anomosity towards CL for their generosity. I would still be willing to pay for the upgrade from P4 to P5. And Opera, they did do an extraordinary thing and I am grateful! I'd feel privileged to post an image here! But it would be in a different posting

How about just a jpg of one of your quilts?

Whoa. Very sorry to hear that.

Tori, you have our prayers.

Agree. 100%.

but it comes down to public relations, imo.

IMO -- it came down to that, yes.

The day after 9/11/01, I made a graphic using Poser 4 and Bryce 5. It showed the burning buildings in the background. which can be seen on my website. As a quilt book author, I and a few other others were invited by our publisher to make a quilt commemorating the sorrowful event but since the burning buildings were so depressing, I made what you see here. It has been travelling to various venues in the United States for 4 years now, is featured in a book named "United We Quilt" Publisher, The American Quilters' Society and should be coming home soon. The woman featured is tearful but defiant ready to comeback and was considered as one of the best in the collection. I hope you enjoy.

Firstly, my prayers are with Tori and her dad and family. What I consider CL did wrong was not answering Ritas questions in a timely manner. They may have been very much in the right but if the customer does not understand thewhy` and feels they are being slighted then the company needs to take an extra step. I appreciate that they took care of Rita and I will continue to promote Poser. I do hope that Cl does however learn a customer service lesson from this. Scott

Rita, thanks for posting that image. Indeed, she is defiant. You captured her resolve and strength in a powerful way. That is just how I feel. ::::: Opera :::::

For Xenophonz and Operaguy, I thank you for your kind words. And Scott you captured the frustration I felt at the time. I am so glad this is being resolved.
