Here is an earlier version of the engine:
SInce then the distributor has been replaced along with a few other goodies, and everything was recleaned.
The trans is fine and screams at the low end but since it's a three-speed automatic the top speed tops out at 90 mph due to the large rear ratio (3.89). We HAVE and are INCLUDING the ford T5 manual transmission kit, but my dad has not had time to install it so the next owner will most likely want to do that for maximum performance.
I am currently in school in NYC but the car is in Northern California. I would have liked to drive it some more and sell it over the summer, but since it's tax season and the parents are paying the tuition, it must be done now :(. I was back a few weeks ago but couldn't drive it(!!!) because it needed a new fuel pump and there was no time to install one. Although our time together was short, I feel as if it lasted a lifetime (I feel like I'm writing a eulogy).

I actually have a few friends at school that are very interested in it, but they have to talk to their parents first (some things never change eh?). I also thought about going in with my buddies at 5000 each to buy it from my dad, but I don't even have 500, let alone 5000 dollars to do that. I'd love to find a way to keep it but what it comes down to is that my dad needs money for taxes and tutuion (this is on top of student loans), and we had planned on this happening for a while. Planning, though, is very different from actually seeing it happen.
On the upside, it was a GREAT project and could easily be done again! And not only again, but with the experience now under the belt it can be done even better and faster and most likely cheaper. We know what works and what doesn't. I am thinking convertible for the next project...with an embedded mac mini to serve music :-D Or maybe I'll stick to the ipod.

damn.... are you absolutely sure you're not gunna hate yourself for selling this in a few years?? It looks like a rolling orgasm man! I would so buy it, but I can't bid heigher then $700 which is way too little.

Nice work!! It sucks having to get rid of them after putting so much into it. I did a 71 Barracuda, got it in pieces on a flatbed, had to sell just when it was ready for paint. :( I paid 600 sold her for 4000. Lots of resource for Stangs, not as much for Mopar. Sell it to someone that'll take care of it.

Oh you guys, its only a car, I had a 67 mustang once and I don't regret not having it anymore, lol. I still fondly remember the time I hit some slush on the road and got scared out of my wits when it mushroomed up thru the floor board at my feet. And the rock holding up the passenger seat was priceless. Sigh, ok yeah, its gonna hurt for you to sell this car.
You're selling the car for college? If you knew the right people, there's probably good money to be made in car restoration. You've certainly have done a great job there. Seems a shame to let it go... At least now you'll have an extra incentive to do well in school. All that work would be for naught if you don't apply yourself.

Great looking car and nice job on the resto. My first car was a 71 Chevelle SS.....My pop did a great job restoring it. Monte Carlo crushed velour interior, 454 c.i. engine bored out to 496 c.i. Hurst Lightning Rod shifter.....awesome car and great to drive.....walked a 'vette once. Had to sell it....insurance was super high on a gas sucking muscle car...so, I know how ya' feel. Good luck.
$2/L * (3.8L/gal)... Approx $7.60 for a gallon? Sheesh! It's a wonder people still drive over there. At least most people there don't have to cover the distances that shortsighted planning in the U.S. has created. (There was a reason for suburban growth back in the early cold war days - sorta a way of decentralizing populations under the shadow of the nuke threat. Nowadays, regional planners don't know any better and it's just counterproductive and wasteful.) But back on the car topic... Too bad the econo-cars just don't ellicit any feelings design wise. Hmmm... I wonder if anyone's ever converted a classic to electric or hybrid?

This is a very real possibility with the coates rotary engine, as the new valve system can be retrofitted onto exisitng engine block, and can run and virually any fuel, including hydrogen. Technologies such as the Millenium Fuel Cell can provide safely stored hydrogen to the engine quickly enough to operate at high velocity.

Actually hydrogen might be one of the easier conversions Rayraz. :) (Either that or LNG/CNG.) You could keep most of the original engine too. The hard part would be manufactuing the custom fittings (probably stainless with teflon seals) to keep the leaks to a minimum. (If there's any hint of a leak, hydrogen will find a way.) Then it's just a matter of properly setting up fuel metering, injection, and ignition. I wonder if MegaSquirt could do the last three? Full elecrtic if done right might not be bad either, but would require gutting most existing hardware and reinventing stuff. And then there's the weight penalty if you plan on getting any range out of it. But the heaps of torque that electric motors have combined with less batteries might make quite a fun runabout car for short trips and errands.Your friendly neighborhood Wings3D nut.
