The link above I have not used it but have heard others say it is good . It is free so maybe worth a try. Otherwise I think there are several freeware applications you might find by doing a search with GoogleAnd every one said, 'If we only live,

Once when I burned a cd with all the data from a card reader it said failed, and all the files were looking different. But I took the cd out and put it in another PC and all the files were intact. Maybe try a different computer before trying something new.

absence but in the mastery of his passions."
I have tried another computer...it wants to format it too. So botht the camera and 2 computers have not liked the card as is. I have not been able to find a free program yet...if anyone else knows of one that handles xD, please let me know. I downloaded the one Onslow suggested, but I keep getting an error message when I try to run the program. Bummer, it looked like a good one.

I just tried the Smart Recovery and got an error message when I tried to run the progam, something about it not finding GIF89, etc...I did a search using GOOGLE and tried a few others with no success, but the last one I downloaded pulled up most of the pictures off the card! Yeay!! There are a few corrupted images, but most of them appear intact. Looks like I'm gonna have to pay to get them though...lemme see how much it costs. The progam is from DataRescue and is called PhotoRescue. It worked, and has a Mac version, so I'll probably pay for the code so I can get the images, assuming it is a reasonable cost.
Just checked. $30. Not too bad. And it WORKS! Thanks for your help gang.

Glad you got them back :) Just had a look at that link and saved it. It is good because at least you know it will work before you have to pay

Yeah, that is a plus. Much better than sending the card into a company. I still haven't actually done it yet, but will let you guys know how it goes when I do. I was searching on a PC at work when I found the program, now am seeing how it works on my Mac. --Kort

That error is covered in FAQ at their site. Looks like you found sucess without it though

I didn't even think to check their FAQ, but being PC only anyway limited me. :) Well, when all is said and done, I was able to recover 84 of the 87 images I had on the card. Not bad. I received my registration code in a couple of hours of paying and now have my images back. I thought they were goners. I am very happy with this software and would recommend it to anyone facing what I just did. "Thank you DataRescue!" ;^P --Kort

Great to hear Kort and nothing better than personal recommendation.

I got a Lexar card with the "Image Rescue" software included. (the software is on the card and is downloaded from that before the card is formatted for the camera.) I have not used "rescue" but a friend has and says it works really well. Alas, that is after the fact in your situation. Just a note for those who might be interested. Maybe some of the other card makers also supply this software, I don't know. One thought, likely not needed: My cameras want the camers turned "off" before the card is removed. If I accidentally removed the card while the camera was on..what would happen? The manual says the card would be affected. I use 512 cards, max. Why? I don't want to depend on one card being "perfect" all the time, since cards can mess up! I would rather have more cards than one huge one(storage wise). Anyway, good luck on retrieving more images. I do like your stuff. Tom.

Hey gang. I was wondering if anyonw could help. I filled up my xD card with shots from Florida canals this weekend, gators, birds, turtles, lilies and the like...but I had a problem when I tried to download it to a laptop with a card reader. It would not read the card, AND I think it corrupted it so that the data isn't readable. It is back in my cam and whenever I turn it on it asks me if I want to format the card. Ugh! Does anyone know how to recover data off a corrupt memory card. I know lexar has cards with this feature, so I thought maybe there was a work around. If you know of one please share it with me before I give up and just reformat, losing everything for good. I don't normal take out the card to download my images...and now I know why. :/ Thanks. --Kort
