This is likely the dumbest post ever..bear with me a line or two more. : ) I wear glasses. When I look at one of our pets and look "without glasses" the color is richer. Now, I wonder, how does this affect my color depth(mostly contrast and felt deepness of color) when viewing images on a computer? Sure, when I decide the color is right..maybe to do that without glasses on! Of course, I better get the image sharp to start with since these eyes are weary. Silly post, I know. Does color look better to you without the glasses on, assuming the stuff is in focus? Yikes........TomDart.

I wil risk joining a Tom d'Art Thread. Yep...when I look in the Mirror...I have Jet Black Hair.. but...when I see it at a different angle...like on the Barber Shop Floor...it is Foxy Silver! I wear Glasses too....but only for distance and Sniper Work. Tom, in reference to your question, I cannot say for sure; you might check with WebMD.com or your Optometrist. In today litigious society we have to guard ourselves. (Ah, for the Sixties again, when you checked your horoscope before getting out of bed instead of your liar, er, lawyer).

If it weren't for the modern wonder of Poly-Carbon Resins, my glasses would resemble Coke Bottle Bottoms, so don't feel bad. One thing is certain though, there is a difference between screen colors from once computer to the next, especially if you have a CRT. If you don't have one, you might consider changing over to an LCD Screen as they are easier on your eyes, the colors are more vibrant, and it uses allot less juice.

I'll get back to you on this.I know I have to get glasses for astigmatism.Have not wore them since 12 years old.But for some reason now I find my face about 5-6 cm (2 in) away from my monitors.Probably though what is happening is when you see things darker with no spectacles on it is because you are not letting as much surrounding light through the retina.So things will seem more shaded. Maybe I am no optometrist for sure. but changes in color perception and in vision may also suggest disease and and you could possibly need a retinal examination. Just something I thought of.

Sure doesn't sound really cool to me huh! I think u should follow Doug's advice about that examination stuff! ;)

i can barely see a thing without corrective lenses, one big blur o.O! ok... when i look reeeeally up close, yes! color of objects is better cuz i don't have the light reflecting off the lenses or smear or smudges or... what the heck is on my glasses! ewwww... hey pascale!! you know where i can win some laser corrective eye surgery?? :]

Tom, yer a bloody life saver!!! I thought I was mad coz I find the same thing!! I only need glasses for distance, but they make me look a right nerd (ok, nerdIER) and I can't be bothered with contacts..... but yes, when I wear them things aren't just more in focus, they're like... more ALIVE. Certainly more vibrant - I find especially reds - brick buildings, red light zones etc etc... Doug, I ain't no expert, but I think if your 2 inches away from your monitor those glasses are needed, bud.... it must give you a pretty bad headache just from the flicker alone at that range? Man, I'm cringing at the thought for ya... (",)

I dont wear glasses so I cant offer any advice from experience. In theory I would think that wearing glasses would effect the colour temperature of light, much in the same way that the exact same image with identical lighting can look different, more/less contrasty/colour saturation when shot with two different lenses!?!

LostPatrol, I think you and Cyn have hit on it...she mentioned smudges glasses..like a smudged lens we see through. The effect of the plastic lens on the light does seem to lessen contrast and saturation. With "naked eyes" the colors are more vivid and contrasty overall. For those who have expressed a need for an eye exam, I do take that suggestion in hugs and hugs. Well suggested. But, there is really not a prob with the eyes in this body right now except for needing strong lenses! A retinal specialist has examined my eyes three times in the last year following a "floater" seen that is not a floater but something else to "watch". It is miniscule and no retina degeneration or macular damage is apparent. In this case, I think "overall color/contrast" loss is simply from these "thin as they can make them but still thick" dirty glasses! Peeking at the monitor with the glasses pulled up, blue is bluer, black is blacker and contrast is improved. See what you folks with perfect eyes miss!! LOL! and a : ) FOR YOU ALL. Tom.

tom, sorry i'm so late in jumping in. i'm sure your vision affects the way you see colors. glad you're gonna get an exam. i have some problems with my eyes. a lot of them. i can sympathize with what you're going thru. hugz

My glasses are a very light perscription for computer use and I don't see a real difference, but if I had to make a choice, I say that without glasses it is ever so slightly richer..

Some eye-glasses are TINTED or have a UV/antiglare coating.....I wonder if THIS could be causing the issue!?!??! just a thought! L8r! Joe

Joe, mine aren't tinted but might have the uv coating. I think part of it is simply putting the light through a lens in the first place. If any of you wear glasses or contacts, try getting a view in focus(of course) without the lens and see if it makes any difference in trueness of color. Would appreciate that! Take care. Enjoy! Tom.

You know, I wear glasses all the time and a real heavy perscription. I have never thought of looking at stuff without them. I just can't see anything so I thought why bother. I just tried it and the colors do seem a little richer without the glasses. In my case though, it may be because the pic was still blurry (even though I got up real close) and the colors sort of blended together. The greens seemed greener, but my first thought was it was like that because there was no definition around the edges so it all seemed made of greens and shadows. Does that make sense? HA! I just deleted a paragraph of babble. So consider yourselves lucky you didn't have to try and sit through it. whew ;)
