  1. Ocasionally P5 won't pull up a texture or gets stuck on an INJ. I can go to P4, save the character/object then bring it into P5. I REALLY want P6 but I am waiting a bit for the SR's to come out and the bugs get worked out.

YngPhoenix ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 12:09 AM

I only have and use Poser 4 (no propak).

  1. I only have P4 installed to make sure what I make works in all versions. P5/P6 most of the time.

  1. "I own multiple versions (some combination of the above) but I use Poser 5/6 mostly now". I keep Pro Pack for anything that might not work with P6. I really hope that new lady of yours is one of those up for release!

muralist ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 1:29 AM

Only 4 and ProPack. Not going to 5 or 6.

pigfish9 ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 1:49 AM

5 - I'm trying to use on 6 but occasionally relapse back to 5. I still have 4 installed but I'm not sure why...

1 - PP, no cash to change it. Also D|S, for experiments with displacement maps.

  1. "I own multiple versions (some combination of the above) but still use Poser 4 exclusively." If Poser 2 counts. It should be a trivial matter to include a P4 MAT file, just a quick hit with a search & replace utility for bitmap textures. It may be more work for procedurals. RSRs are a nice addition but I have to use P3DO to convert pngs all the time. It's a minor annoyance but not a deal killer. I don't think most people would avoid products that didn't include rsr and P4 MAT files but I'm sure some would, expecially if there's an equally attractive product that has 'em. If a product used procedural textures exclusively or mostly and had no bitmap equivalents, then I wouldn't get it. If it were really, really nice and had at least some generic bitmaps that I could modify, I might.

Another factor that should be considered in this is DAZ Studio ... which is basically Poser 4 compatible. Some people use that instead of any of the Poser versions, and they are also a market for content as well.

kuroyume0161 ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 2:24 AM · edited Fri, 15 April 2005 at 2:24 AM

There is also a DAZ|Studio market for interPoser, believe it or not! The next version will contain an import for D|S-exported Wavefront .obj/.mtl using interPoser Ltd for C4D.

There is more in the works for DAZ|Studio support in interPoser, but can say no more (NDA) ...

I have PP, P5, P6, Use P6 for simple stuff but mostly use PP - especially with larger scenes. I alse use Poser with Vue a lot. Richard

EnglishBob ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 2:54 AM

I have 3, 4 and 5 (all installed!) - I use 4 most of all. I only use 5 if I want the cloth room, or for finding out what all those nodes in the material room do. :)

logansfury ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 2:57 AM

own PPP and P5 but use PPP 90% of the time, and cant abandon it because many really beautiful items ive got (like anton's magik FX) dont come into P5 working properly like they do in PPP. In the inverse, many totally awesome items like the fairy glowball and Lava Troll P5 mats wont work in PPP at all, so im forced to use the platform that the item I want in a particular render demands I use.

hauksdottir ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 3:45 AM
  1. I just moved the boxes of P4 and PP into the closet.

Anton's Magik FX work fine in P5 and P6. You just have to modify the ambient node slightly. (Didn't someone make P5 MAT files for this product? If not, someone should!)

stephaniebt ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 6:00 AM

I'm still using P4, considering upgrading to P6 after I hear more about it.

oliveramberg ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 6:40 AM

Still using Poser ProPack (I have 5 but never use it) and I purchased Shade 7 LE a while ago. Don't feel the need to upgrade.

  1. Poser 4 (with ProPack) Mostly I just need to pose as I render elsewhere. I really like DAZStudio and if it had magnets or an equivalent I'd dump Poser altogether.

Birddie ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 8:21 AM

P6 will never replace P4, PP or P5. There's still too much old content being used for people to give up P4 or PP or even P5. P6 will not replace these versions anytime too soon so, it's a safe bet for you to continue making your content for P4. I not in any hurry to replace my PP.

Tyger_purr ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 8:21 AM

I think it is interesting the seemingly large support p4/pp has in this thread yet when people were asked "what version do you use?" there seemed to be a majority P5 useres (before p6) I'm inclined to think it is the title "Who's Still using Poser 4?" that is causing the bias, which, if you dont use 4 you'd probably be less likely to look at this thread. The title could lead one to believe that the content creator is going to ask a question to people who use p4.

misconception. Not everyone has upgraded. PP gets left in the dust because most of the threads on here now are P6 & P5. That doesn't mean people have given it up using it for one reason or another. ;)

Not really a misconception. People in the previous polls also indicated that they had the newer versions and choose to use the older versions. I am tempted to try to come up with a poll myself. :)

I have P5 and P6. I've already taken P5 off my computer.

Poppi ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 9:04 AM

p4. i bought lightwave instead of p5, so i only use poser for posing things. actually, i rendered basically in bryce before i had lightwave. i think p4 is fine if you don't plan on rendering in poser.

Turtle ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 9:09 AM

I have on PP, and 6. Poser 5 is my Siamese cats toy. So far I have not figured out why 6 has to be so damn hard to understand. I work with it almost every day and still understand very little. I have found it does well with Poser 6 products, but not the older ones. I will still be using Poser PP for a long time. Maybe it's my age??? but I can't see me deleting PP any time soon. by the way Jess knees are for crap in poses. makes me shudder.
