Subject: Poll - Who's Still using Poser 4? - content creators want to know

jaybutton ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 9:25 AM

I am using Poser 4 with the Pro Pack, but am planning to get Poser 6 when I hear that the memory problem has been fixed. Jay

JenX ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 9:29 AM

Poser 5, hopefully soon to get P6. (Oh, and D|S, too ;) )

  1. "Poser 4? what's that? Get with the program - P6 all the way!" P4, PP, P5 and D|S is installed as well since I am a beta tester plus for my own stuff I need to verify that it works in every version. But for playing and rendering I only use P6, it's simply the best - has all the new neat stuff and is just as fast as PP, at least on my compy.

4- Own Poser3 and Poser 4, use Poser 4 exclusively. Use Lightwave and Messiah for rendering and have no need or intention to upgrade to version 5 or 6.

jenay ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 10:11 AM

only P4 - maybe one day I'll purchase P5 ... hehe ...

seaayre ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 11:17 AM
  1. I have Poser 6 but can't use it with the memory bug, so am back to using 5 until they fix 6. I keep 4/PP on the computer for beta testing.

  1. (Mostly, anyway) I also see this as an non-issue. For the near future, at least, I intend to create everything as a Poser 4 item, and add P5/P6 extras if they are really worthwhile, not just a sales feature. As Poser is backwardly compatable, everybody wins, no loosers. If you make P5/P6 only stuff you are narrowing you customer base.

  1. I own 4 & 5, but use 5 all the time now. I am happy with P5 and won't be upgrading to 6 anytime soon.

Happily using only Poser 6.

  1. Just too much stuff in external Runtimes to be able to use PP without a lot of effort.

maclean ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 3:42 PM

I develop for P4 and add P5/P6 extras, so I use all 3 apps. I've also been making separate versions of each product for daz studio, - same product, different installer, but modifed to work correctly, and with small extras thrown in that poser won't do. As jim burton said, cut out the P4 users and you're losing a large customer base. Almost everything that's made for P5 will work in P4/PP, other than dynamic cloth or special shaders. mac

What's Poser 4? Never heard of it.......... P6. Until they start selling P7.

  1. I own Everything from P4 up but use primarily PP until I get the hang of P6 and eon updates Vue to work with P6 files. This is an essential point since I export the majority of my work to Vue for additional scene set up, lighting and rendering. P6 is nice, but until it's supported by the other programs I use, it's nothing more than a fancy toy so I still use ProPack for my "real" work.

Engel47 ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 3:44 PM

5* - Only have P5 and P6 installed - still use P5 mostly.

AntoniaTiger ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 6:05 PM

2: Poser 5 owner. Have CL given up on "Poser Artist", then? I'll happily take P4-compatible texture-based conforming clothing and assign P5 shader trees to get the look I want. Note the .bum support can be done the DAZ way, supply a .jpg and instructions on how to convert.

randym77 ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 6:17 PM

There's still too much old content being used for people to give up P4 or PP or even P5.

But you can use P4 and PP content in P5 and P6. You sometimes have to adjust the textures a little, but backwards compatibility is pretty good. The existing content shouldn't stop anyone from upgrading. I use tons of P4 and PP models, but haven't actually used P4 or PP for a long time.

I think CL will be releasing "Poser Artist 2" soon. (IOW, Poser 5 in a new box.)

AntoniaTiger ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 6:30 PM

As far as old content is concerned, I think it matters more which figures are supported. I do a lot of stuff with "furry" figures, and many are based on older human figures such as Posette or Vicky 2.

Xena ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 7:40 PM

P4, Pro Pack (I use it exclusively) and P6. Owned P5 -it sucked royally- so sold it. I don't use P6, just grabbed it for $100 when they frakked up on that sale :) I might learn it one day.

Berkley ( ) posted Fri, 15 April 2005 at 8:46 PM
  1. I have P4 and P6, but haven't started using P6 yet

Charlie_Tuna ( ) posted Sat, 16 April 2005 at 1:13 AM

ProPack, due to computer age and lack of $$ to upgrade no P6 and Winter Queen here :-(

Why shouldn't speech be free? Very little of it is worth anything.

artnik ( ) posted Sat, 16 April 2005 at 1:48 AM

P4/PP. Why? Older system, no new system as yet. Am thinking of revamping old w/new motherboard, etc. Don't feel like I could invest in a completely new system at this time. Revamp could exceed a new system, with the right components, and cost a lot less.

bnetta ( ) posted Sat, 16 April 2005 at 2:39 AM

Yes!!! between buying poser4,psp7, and lots of content and a new laptop to play them on......i'll never be able to upgrade thank god there are other freebie programs and ect... out there..

4 I own posers 1-6 but do most of my development work in poser4 propack. I test and do some renders in 5 & 6, but without upgrading my machine the newer rendering features just take too long to make deadlines.

Statement #1 - and that's not going to change for a very very long time!

ariannah ( ) posted Sat, 16 April 2005 at 1:46 PM

P5 until I install P6. :) (and hopefully have no bug issues)

Still hanging on to Poser 4.03 until such time that I am able to upgrade to Poser 5. Very satisfied with Poser 4. Can't really afford right now, but maybe in the future.

rasputina ( ) posted Sun, 17 April 2005 at 4:00 AM

I used 4 for the most part, wasn't that keen on 5 but starting to use it more often. 6 I'm still exploring.

catlin_mc ( ) posted Sun, 17 April 2005 at 6:15 PM
  1. "I own multiple versions (some combination of the above) but I use Poser 5/6 mostly now". I stopped using P4 when I got P5 and will probably end up doing the same with P6 when CL finally have cured all it's little problems. But for the time being I'm using P5 and P6 about as much as each other.

egaeus ( ) posted Sun, 17 April 2005 at 8:14 PM

I only use Poser 4, didn't like 5 and don't have much hope for 6.

ming ( ) posted Sun, 17 April 2005 at 9:39 PM

#1 P4, now and always.

hauksdottir ( ) posted Mon, 18 April 2005 at 5:05 AM

Or the painted clothing of P2 and P3? If users are holding fast like limpets to P4, then surely they prefer the older models? None of this strand-based hair or even transmapped hair... helmet hair is good enough and renders like a shot, too! And if the clothes are painted on, then there is no need to calculate the flow of cloth over skin or frown when skin pokes through conforming steel plate armor! Carolly

jval ( ) posted Mon, 18 April 2005 at 7:51 AM

I only made a single pass and did not recheck so this tally may not be 100% accurate- close though. I was bored... P1,2,3 - 1 (.8%) P4 - 67 (56.8%) P5 - 30 (25.4%) P6 - 20 (16.9%) Note: 1- % is to nearest tenth hence missing .1% 2- Selection 5 does not distinguish between P5 and P6. I tallied those who chose this as P5 users (lowest common denominator) 3- if reply indicated multiple versions actually used regularly (as opposed to just being owned) each version was tallied 3- unclear replies were ignored - Jack
