Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 26 2:05 pm)
Poser is not the kind of app one would use to create a mesh. If you own Cinema4D (which version?) then that is far better suited than any version of Poser. Secondly, you have to do the rigging. This is not easy. Poser is, once it's done, visually easier, but does not offer the softIK, vertex maps and Claude Bonet maps C4D has.(I'm talking about Cinema9 now with the Mocca module) What's more, there's an excellent plugin for Cinema by CactusDan for rigging without having to own Mocca. So I'd go the Cinema route as it offers more options for better joints. The learning curve is approximately the same. (= not easy) Except when you have the free Cinema6. In that case, I'd get free Wings3D and do the rigging in Poser.
I have tried prudent planning long enough. From now I'll be mad. (Rumi)
Thanks for your help. Yes, I do own C4D R9 Let me explain further. For a project I need to create a horse, saddle, rider & tach. Not a simple job for someone who has never modeled more than a landscape in C4D. I am not sure if i should find a horse model, create a saddle, tach etc. and rig it in C4D or use the pre-made models in Poser? Is rigging an animal easier in Poser or using mocca in C4D?

Being new to C4D and having only briefly tried the Poser Demo I am hoping someone having used C4D and Poser can offer some advice. I need to create an animal and then pose it differently for different scenes. Would you recommend buying Poser 6 and use that or to using C4D? What are the benefits and drawbacks of using Poser? What are the benefits and drawbacks of using C4D? Is it easier to pose a rigged animal in C4D or is it easier to pose an animal in Poser? Are there any other questions I should be asking myself? If you create and pose animals or have experience with any of the above I would appreciate your advice.
