Subject: Bryce booleans to Poser?

Is there anyway that boolean objects can be exported from Bryce and imported to Poser?

Sure ain't. Sorry. I know, I know...sucks, don't it?

Not as far as I know. So far, terrains are the only exportable things in Bryce. Unlike most modelers, Bryce doesn't actually DO booleans. It simulates booleans. The objects are still whole and complete, they just render as booleans would. It makes for some really HUGE models if you do your modeling in Bryce. :) Greywolf

I didn't realize that either. I have to admit I've kind of wondered about it in the past. Thanks for the info. :)

Ahh, well... guess I gotta plunge into RayDream then to create the object I want - a simple brazier. Trouble is, I know I could knock it out with booleans in no time. I've never modeled in RD so it's gonna take me a lot longer. (sigh) Unless someone knows where I can get a brazier? It's just a simple bowl shape on a pole stand. Kinda like the modern touchier lamps. Thanks for the info anyway. :o)

Gem, Rhino does booleans, and does them very well. It's pretty expensive, BUT, the demo at the link above allows you to make 25 saves, and it is full-featured. Not only that, but the creators of Rhino extend their support to people even who are only using the demo. UNFORTUNATELY, it is a Windows ONLY program, and they have no intention of porting it to Mac. :( --Mike

Just checked it out, pretty expensive is not the word! I have bryce, poser, and Paint Shop Pro. That took months of savings. Going into shock....... But doesn't it make some great models butch

Yeah, true, but it's still FAAAARRR less than say, 3DS Max or LightWave. And Maya? shudder ;) By the way, Zygote's Rhino model was made with Rhino. Pretty apropriate, eh? Another cool thing--- The Rhino Forum here, is packed full of some MAJOR Rhino experts, all of whom are very helpful. --Mike

One last plug for Rhino: if you're a student, you can get it for like only 200 dollars. :)

3d Studio Max also does sort of a true boolean (though it is still really faked if you read up on it till you flatten the stack, but then to get it out in a nice exportable format takes flattening the stack). And it is even more expensive than Rhino I suppose... though I have found it to be worth it's weight in gold if one has to do this for a living, or ever wants to. There is no feature in these low end modelers to flatten the stack with, convert the created objects, whether they be extruded, lofted, made from patches, booleaned, however you made them, to a simple mesh object? That really sucks.

Actually, I was really hoping to avoid modelling altogether. Not because I have anything against it, but because I'm really beginning to feel my ablilities at keeping up with the WAY too many software packages I already have are getting stretched too thin. Photoshop, Illustrator, GoLive, LiveMotion, Painter, Poser, Bryce, Canoma, RayDream... and that ain't all! My poor brain feels like it's made outta Jello by the end of some days! However, as I get deeper into Bryce and Poser I can see that I may not have an option to doing my own modelling - unless I choose to paint objects post-render. So, guess it's time to dust off the Ray Dream manual. I'll just have to add another cup of water to that Jello. But it's getting mighty jiggly! ;o)
