Subject: Daz3D go bye-bye?

I just went over to Daz3D's site and either they had such a spring blizzard that it filled the web page white or the site has been washed clean (check the Page Source - basic blank HTML)!

I think someone fubar'd pretty good over there!

Looks like some part of their server(s) crashed. I get these errors when I go directly to the forums: Warning: mysql_pconnect(): Lost connection to MySQL server during query in /home/forum/func.dat on line 7 Warning: mysql_select_db(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in /home/forum/func.dat on line 8 Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/forum/func.dat:7) in /home/forum/cookie.dat on line 83

Looks like Poser Pros just joined it!

It was snowing earlier today in Utah, so I don't think the site outage is weather-related.

PoserPros is in the same server network, so I'm not surprised that it's gone down, too. bonni

Both Poser Pros and Daz3D are working fine for me. I can get to all areas including the forums and store. No errors of any kind.

Well I can't get in :(

DAZ is back now for me, but Poser Pros is still down. I suppose it's just a matter of time, though... I wonder if it was a DNS issue? That's kinda what it looks like... bonni

Weird. I didn't have any problems accessing either. I still can. Maybe it was a router issue with your ISP's?

I've got them both just fine.

NeoTrace says there is an intermittent server problem (66-100% packet loss)in Chicago that is causing the problem (node 8 of 14 hops between me & them). It's a verio.net server so anyone who is routed through there will either have slow or no access til it gets fixed or rerouted.

Thanks for the proper terminology, that's what I meant but I don't know the proper terms to use.

You know it's bad when an internet hub goes down. Supposedly, the internet is supposed to be mainly impervious to these problems. BTW, I'm in Denver, so why would I be routed through them specifically?

kuroyume0161, I suspect it depends on traffic. There are times when running a trace on a server that turns out to be in New York, I'll be routed via Chicago-St. Louis-Denver-New York (with about 10 mini hops in between :-)

AntoniaTiger ( ) posted Tue, 19 April 2005 at 1:38 AM

The various Internet companies, between your ISP and any particular site, have non-obvious standards for the "shortest route", including not wanting to pay anyone else to carry traffic around a problem. And if your ISP connects to the world through Company A, while the destination site uses Company B, Chicago might be where A connects to B. Even if B is on the opposite site of your street.

Yeah, just like traveling by plane. The shortest distance between origin and destination is not necessarily a straight line. They have you hopping in all different directions and changing in several different airports to get from "here to there" with the most god-awfully short layover times and longest flight distances possible. I could never understand that! LOL

kuroyume0161 ( ) posted Tue, 19 April 2005 at 2:02 AM

That was the entire idea of ARPANET - a node based networking system where loss of nodes could be sustained by traffic rerouting. Obviously, with ISP-CompanyA linkages, this is no longer strictly true.

You remember the major floods on the East Coast, a few years ago. Took out a major highway bridge somewhere between New York and Washington. Unfortunately a lot of "redundant" telco optical fibre cross the river on the same bridge. The real world doesn't fit theory.

They (Daz) had their front page hacked only a couple of weeks ago!

I do not get such errors. Check your internet settings.

Bah! I run a web/ftp/email server from my office on a T1. Check my internet settings indeed!
