Subject: Adding a V3 add on item to V3 in poser

garowen ( ) posted Wed, 13 April 2005 at 11:28 PM ยท edited Mon, 26 August 2024 at 5:21 AM

Hey there all, I've gotten poser recently and have been trying like hell to learn it, and can usually get through the snags I get myself into... but I can't seem to figure this one out... This is the same with all the V3 add ons I've downloaded, in fact V3 in Poser 5 doesn't seem to have a texture at all, just a general peach color. For instance I've downloaded the freebie, Amazons~ by Kirisute. I see the texture file in the folder, but can't figure out how to add it onto V3. Any help would be appreciated. Also if you can tell me how to get V3's own texture on her, That would be great. I have tried rendering her, but it looks the same. On another note, I've been searching but I can't seem to find learning tutorials. When I was learning Jasc there were tons of them out there, basically here is a result, here are the files you would need and how to get them, and here are the steps you would go through to create the image. Now that I type it, it kind of sounds like, spoon feed me the learning, but It really helps me learn the tool with a setup like that. Any other tutorials for beginers would be great though, All I can find for tutorials so far are ones that show you how to put certain finishing touches on your completed images. Thanks for taking the time to read all this, and thanks in advance for your help :-) ~James

You will find the MAT file to apply the texture in the Pose library. Victoria 3 is not supplied with a texture. You have to buy it separately. You'll find lots of tutorials right here in this forum. Search for "geep". Dr Geep writes amazing tutes on all things Poser.

I guess what I am missing is the steps to apply the texture while in Poser. Can anyone give me specifics on that?

Easy. Load up your V3. Go to the Pose Library. Find the MAT file you're looking for. If you're unsure of what it's called open the Zip file and find the path for the MAT pose. Out of interest, I downloaded the Amazons pack and I can tell you right now that the path is incorrect. You will need to install the files manually, or re-zip it so that "Runtime" is the first named folder in the path. That said, a correctly set up Zip should put the MAT files in Pose. They will be named something like MAT V3 Texture or Amazons MAT etc. When you find it, double click on it and it will apply the texture to V3.

Thank you SOOOO much SamTherapy! For some reason looking into the pose folder wasn't intuitive enough for me lol. I actually never went in there looking, but went just about everywhere else I could think of. I will try that out tonight! When I unzipped it, I opened the zip file, copied the 'Runtime' folder, and pasted it directly into the Poser 5 folder. It asked if I wanted to overwrite runtime, I said yes. I put the files under C:program filescurious labsposer 5RuntimetexturesKirisute Amazons(3 jpg files) and also under Runtime librarieslightkirisute lights(6 files) and librariesPoseKirisute Amazons(53 files). Please tell me if that is correct. The other V3 Add ons I have downloaded and unzipped were placed similarly.

You're welcome. Sounds like you have the paths all correct, then. FYI, the Pose Library is used for applying textures and morphs as well as actually "posing" the model. So, whenever you see MAT, MOR, INJ, look for 'em in the Pose Library.

Hey Garowen, nice to see Sam has been guiding you well........though Sam..the zip file aint set up incorrectly!! Its set-up how i set it up ;) I just dont set them up to unzip directly to the runtime....:) as for Tutorials, Garowen, you will find alot of helpful tutorials on my very own website: http://www.forgefires.co.uk in the tutes section....if i was you i would check out the ~Firelight~ and ~Book 5~, both of which have setting up a scene from start to finish and may help you out alot. Seing as your using Poser 5 there are a couple of things that Sam hasnt hit upon yet that might well help you out... MAT files are an easy way of adding textures sure....but it wont help you out if you want to change them slightly...get to know how to change textures in the MATERIAL ROOM as well... choose from the top menu: RENDER>MATERIALS this will open up the material room....by selecting your figure or parts of it you can start to change how textures are loaded onto your figure....For instance...load V3 then open the material room....now click on her head.... the material room will display all the texture/material settings for her head.....the MAIN setting your going to be looking for is DIFFUSE COLOUR...if there is a texture loaded then "plugged" into this option will be window displaying the properties of that texture!IMAGE SOURCE etc will give you details of where this texture is loaded from. Using a MAT file will of course set all this up for you...however to my mind its best to know what them MAT files are actually doing! ;) A quick run through the settings displayed will sort you out im sure! Certainly MAT files created for Poser 4 (like the Amazons one) might not set up the texture correctly in Poser 5...so it is always worth knowing where and how the textures can be checked and loaded! on a slightly different note...always recall you can use the TEXTURE SHADED option in the preview window to show you a texture on your figure without rendering it! if you need help and you wish to contact me then please feel free to do so....or if you run MESSENGER feel free to add me and track me down online...ill help you in any way i can kirisute@hotmail.co.uk
