I beleive it is almost here. (strange similarity in the images great minds think alike) As I have beleived for the past 6 months or so.

Lol... I think its time DAZ release a new, higher poly count skeleton (that comes free with say, Studio) Their retail one I think has more polys...I got that one as a gift forever ago... AS

And, a Woody 2.0! For all the versions of mike and vicky, I have had the MOST fun posing with the skeleton and woody, lol. AS

Hmmm, maybe it doesn't have more polys (?) 40,124 polys here with the retail version. AS

LOLThese are great! Kemal, what is that just out of reach, a coin? Nicko, I just noticed the 2 little red ants. Really cool stuff guys! AgentSmith, thats the skeleton that comes with DAZ? I like it looks fierce!

Kemal ( ) posted Sun, 24 April 2005 at 4:01 AM

Yep, that would be a coin ! :D

Nicko15 ( ) posted Sun, 24 April 2005 at 5:21 AM

My skeleton is just the standard one that comes with Poser 4, but its not great; all the teeth are stuck together in one block and I think the nose should have a line down it. Oh, and that picture has no anti-aliasing. It would have taken forever seeing as the whole thing is surrounded with radial lights. Have a nice day everyone!

AgentSmith ( ) posted Sun, 24 April 2005 at 12:15 PM

No, the one I posted is the "retail" skeleton. My brother bought it (along with Poser 4) as gift for me. (he didn't know Poser already came with a skeleton) The retail version has morphs for the "eyes" (i.e.; the evil/angry look. And, it has a MUCH better uv map, compared to the stock one that comes with Poser. AS

Ahh, I understand.

Erlik ( ) posted Mon, 25 April 2005 at 8:08 AM

But the skull on the AV skeleton is still bad, as well as the breastbone. There is a better skull from 3D Cafe, which I poserised. Anybody would be interested?

Yeah, BOTH skeletons are still too low poly for my liking. And, even the retail skeleton doesn't have teeth, just what Nicko15 mentioned, one block, but with the better uvmap, you can fake the teeth with a texture. AS

DAZ's retail skeleton (AV) is the only item of theirs I have ever asked for my money back on. It's an old model that simply isn't up to scratch nowadays, not even at its lower price. It's true that it is much better than the laughable thing that comes included in Poser; but it is also true that a slap on the face is much better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. There's an opportunity here for an enterprising modeller to make a high quality 'Poser' skeleton. I think the time and effort (cost) is too high against the return for the big boys to indulge. DAZ do a very good skull model. It has some very clever paleo-morphs but unfortunately doesn't come with a texture map (I think the materials are frelled, too). There is a free Poserised skull in the freestuff here by Royloo, but sadly his site is currently suspended and no one has heard from him.

Aside from the teeth issue and AS has a good idea on that with the UV map, I find the basic poser skel works well if you can run a subdivision on it. I think wings can do that, I know C4D can (see attached) and I suspect blender too. Then import into bryce to render the final image.

This is the DAZ skull I mentioned, which is in a different league to the Poser and retail skeleton meshes. I was correct about the materials problem. It is supposed to be divided up between bone and teeth so you can have them as different colours. But it doesn't work; it's stuck on the 'default' material that applies all over. So for this image, I rendered a version of each and combined them. It's just plain material colours, no textures. Incidentally, this was rendered in Poser6. It makes use of Image Based Lighting, which appears to create a sphere of lights that illuminate according to a 2D light probe (image). It also uses 'Ambient Occlusion', which calculates where surfaces would be darkened from obstruction to all-round light (ambient), and darkens the materials accordingly. It also benefits from the 'Gather' node, which seems pretty much like Bryce True Ambience - except that it works. Also on show is render time polygon subdivision smoothing, so there're no jaggies on the visible edges (there're still some on the top of the skull in a normal render, even on this mesh). This is a user selectable option for each surface, so you can have jaggies or not according to your crease angle and smoothing group preferences. This is a very basic render by someone who is very new to the advanced features of Poser6. Some of the images (amongst all the usual garbage, of course) show Poser6 to be rather amazing. It has sub-surface scattering; depth of field; motion blur; soft shadows; displacement mapping; collision detection; dynamic surfaces with gravity and other forces; particles; script based programming; and loads more. I'll still get Bryce5.5 if it has smoothing under TA, simply because I just love working in Bryce. But I have a useful route to follow if the Bryce update is as minimal as DAZ is presenting. And in that case I can't see me hanging around for Bryce6; things are moving on. As a long-time Bryce fan this makes me sad.

AgentSmith ( ) posted Wed, 27 April 2005 at 10:30 PM

I am kinda doubting the TA situation has been changed in Bryce 5.5 DAZ was up front from the beginning as to what they were going to fix and change in Bryce 5.5, and they have stuck to it. And, I have said all along that as far as I know, there aren't any updates that have not already been announced DAZ. *I can't find that stupid scene file that I did that I used to have concerning the TA smoothing, I'll have to re-create it. (but like I said, as far as I have seen, there aren't any secret, un-announced updates for 5.5) But, I'll re-create the TA scene and check it out still! (hey, ya never know, lol) Bryce 5.5...is really the first, hard, slow step in catching up with the other programs. (Poser, Vue, etc). I know we all wanted so much more, so long ago. But, at least we are on the cusp of something new, finally. For me, next month will be the start of the TRUE beggining. The creation of a whole new version, I'm drooling to find out where Bryce 6 will stand in the coming year. (get back to ya, when I re-create that scene) AgentSmith
