Subject: Bryce 5.5 or Vue 5 help me out here

Hi everyone :) I'm trying to decide between Bryce 5.5 and Vue 5 and i can;t make up my mind. Can anyone help me out?

Vue 5. Or carrara. Until Bryce 6 comes out that is. Vue 5 has many more features as does carrara, but bryce has its uses. Until Bryce 6, if you can afford Bue 5 I would definitely go with that direction, bryce 5.5 is not really all that much better than bryce 5.0, and a lot of users have been having issues with the new release. You should scroll down and see some of the forum poster's reactions.

I have both.Bryce 5.5
And vue 5 infinte, just got vue a couple of weeks ago.
Bryce is quick and easy and cheap I've used bryce for years.
Vue infinte has more features, but is interface is slow and clunnky and it costs lots and has a steeper learning curve.
My advise is download lastest trial version of each and see what you think I dont know if there is a trail ver. for infinte yet.
I prefer bryce but if I had been using vue a long time I would probably preferr it because of more features,
You may want to try a free trail version of carrara 4.

I agree about the interface. Bryce has a better interface than both Vue and Carrara, in my taste at least. Try the demos and see which suits you the best.

Bryce. It's less expensive and the gui won't melt your brain (imho) AS

I'm gonna have to agree with AS here, Bryce 5 would be much better decision, expecially if you are begginer in the world of 3D, makes so much more sence then other solutions. Good luck ! :D

I have Vue 4 and 5 (and Carrara 3), as well as Bryce 5.5. I don't have Vue 5 infinite (costing 599 dollars, 399 dollars to upgrade). I NEVER use any of the Vue/Carrara copies. I can't get used to the interface of Vue and multi-camera views, while I can find my way easy around in Bryce. Maybe Vue Infinite had more features, I don't know. Vue 4-5 however to me are in the same range as Bryce 5, while Bryce is way cheaper/easier.

Vue 4 IS Bryce 5, lol. I have Vue 4, and it has some more interesting control over the creation of procedural materials, but can only wrap them in a few ways. And, I just can't get past the interface. Its great for some, though. Vue 5 Infinite does look very nice, but with a big price tag, yet I've seen impressive renders out of it. AS

Aye, I'd say Bryce is the single best application to introduce you to ray-tracing and 3D graphics and animation. It should be required learning in Arts degrees, and for the price you can't beat it, period!

I remember one of the cool things Corel did was to donate a whole bunch of Bryce software sets to some school(s). Oh, yeah, I remember now, that's when Vector Capitol took them over. It was a push to get Corel products into eager little hands. AS

"Vue infinte has more features, but is interface is slow and clunnky and it costs lots and has a steeper learning curve." I can understand the price point, but to say that Vue's interface is slow and clunky and has a steeper learning curve, is just plain false. I was a Bryce user first back in 1998, then bought Vue 3 and it was like I always used it - no problem at all, in less than one day I was already doing everthing that I was doing in Bryce. Vue's got one of the easiest user interfaces I ever tried - and I more or less tried them all. As for the slow and clunky... I can just LOL. :-)

Easiest thing to find out if you like Vue, get the demo. Some hate one gui or another, orio is lucky and is well...bi-gui. ;o) Getting a demo of Bryce is harder....there's a link hidden in the forum somewhere....(I just don't know where) AS

I guess both Vue and Bryce die-hards will prefer one or the other interface. I don't have the patience to work with Vue, what I can do in Bryce 10 times faster (not knowing my way in the Vue interface). I am sure if you ask the same question in the Vue forum, you get different answers. I agree with AS, try them out first and see which you prefer best, if money is not a problem.

"Some hate one gui or another, orio is lucky and is well...bi-gui. ;o)" LOL, never thought of it from this point of view ;-) Anyway, I can understand if someone says to prefer or "hate" one interface over the other, for subjective reasons. As far as I am concerned, except for the 4 views of Vue (which BTW can be switched to a Bryce-like one view with a simple double click), and for the materials browser, I find the two interfaces pretty much similar. What I can not understand is to claim false facts about an interface (like the speed and the learning curve) just because someone does not like it. This groundless bashing does not help unaware people in making a correct choice.

if you can afford it I'd say vue :) easy choise as far as I'm concerned
