Subject: Vue-- Bryce.... honest comparisons pls

skiwillgee ( ) posted Fri, 29 April 2005 at 11:23 PM · edited Sat, 23 November 2024 at 1:54 AM

Are there any users here familiar with Bryce and Vue and can offer honest comparisons as to price, capabilities, ease of use (learning curve), cross compatibilites, etc. I've been a Bryce5 user about a year and barely scratching the suface in its capabilities, but I was surfing the different galleries here at Renderosity and I'm very impressed with some of the renders in Vue. Color me more than moderately curious. tks

Well, there have been various discussions about this, but at this point, since the advent of Vue Infinite, there is no comparison... Even vue 5, there's no comparison... Vue is a better product... The problem is that Bryce has stood still for various years while Vue evolved... About the only thing that Bryce has over view at this time is that you can do great abstracts in Bryce... Abstracts won't work in Vue, as in Bryce, cause Vue doesn't work like that...

There's a link in the backroom that leads to comparisons of Vue and other software. That might be useful. You also might want to do a search on this forum for "Bryce" and you'll see this has been answered quite a few times already.

Price? That's easy. Bryce is much cheaper.

You've heard the old adage: you get what you pay for. Not that I have anything against Bryce. It's a decent app. It's just that Vue meets my needs far better.

I gave up on Bryce after B4. I am now a confirmed Vue Infinite user.

I don't know what Bryce 5.5 is going to have to offer, though. It'll be mildly interesting to see what the Brycers will be able to do with it.

Not that I have any intentions of changing. Vue simply has too much compatibility with Poser for me to consider Bryce as an alternative.

Ease of Poser compatibility was what sold me on Vue to begin with. However, I have come to look at Vue as the powerful application that it is in it's own right. Although easy .pz3 import remains a critcally important feature to me.

The new Bryce looks like it's going to be mated to D|S -- an app which I haven't used. Perhaps I will, once they get it past the lenghty beta process.

But I am now Poser/Vue. I'm hooked.

In addition to which -- P6 does great things on its own, render wise. It's a drastic improvement over P4/P5.

So, in a brief nutshell: I recommend Vue highly.

To me, Bryce is an also-ran.

shrug Others won't agree. And that's fine.

Vue Infinite does the job for me. Far better than Bryce ever did.

Keep in mind that Vue Infinite is a truly professional application. Therefore: comparing V5I to Bryce probably isn't entirely fair to Bryce.

Bryce should be compared with Vue 5 Espirit.

And even there, I think that you'll find Vue to be the clear winner.

Had both..... Bryce is outdated and DAZ just mnade one big mess of Bryce 5.5 as far as I'm concerned. I'm getting rid of it after one day already. Get Vue 5, it's much much better and far more advanced then Bryce 5.5 It's well worth the extra investment.

Artwork and 3DToons items, create the perfect place for you toon and other figures!

Due to the childish TOS changes, I'm not allowed to link to my other products outside of Rendo anymore :(

Food for thought.....

Just for laughs, you might want to take a little look-see over at the Bryce forum.

Looks like all is not peaceful in paradise these days.

But for balance, one has to recognize that such threads pop up everywhere from time to time.

Did I get edited or sumpthin' ? I posted an additional to this question about 14 hours ago and went to work. Now its gone. Here is jist of second post. " tks for the info to all. One unanswered question was total cost value. By this I mean once you have Vue then realistically will you be continuously paying out to the whazoo for this model or the next to keep up with the Jone's? Example I have Daz studio and some basic models. But if I want clothes and hair and morphs and eyes and shoes and jewelry and ... get the picture... spend more and more and more. I viewed some awesome Vue scenes with magnificent ships and such.. Do these models cost an arm and a leg? Yes I could hit the market place and start researching but that is the purpose of this post to people who know and maybe "been there done that" One last question and I'll shut up... I would have Bryce and Vue if I purchase Vue. Can items that can be created in Bryce be imported to Vue.. ala trees and rocks? Thanks to all again for your time. ps some links you gave are either expired or have very old info

The models you speak of are not from E-On so ask those companies. There is millions of FREE models already around that can be imported into Vue already just look in the back room for links and do a google. Vue Trees are superior so why import stuff from Bryce? It can't be done anyway. Do you get Value for your money? Yes. This program actually works and works well. You'll never look back. The grass is greener on the other side. Walk into the light !

Generally speaking, the models that I use in Vue are not expensive - certainly by comparison to the base software. However there are a huge number of free models out there, some of them of very high quality, so it's really a question of looking around to find what you want. This link from Luca Rodolfi is a good place to start: http://www.graphique3d.republika.pl/LINKI/linki.htm Vue 5 Infinite is a truly awesome piece of software, and capable of some very impressive results - Bryce isn't in the same league.

I think the most honest comparison is to download a demo and see yourself. I wonder why nobody else has proposed that so far. Too bad that there is no demo for Infinite available yet, too new. Regarding the models. Most you refer to are models for Poser originally. It is incredible easy to open Poser files in Vue, just use the original Poser format pz3. So if you have Poser you have access to an immense large database of models.

One day your ship comes in - but you're at the airport.
