In an effort to prevent anyone from installing non-company sanctioned software, the very big megalomanical international combine I work for has installed spyware on all our computers. Has anyone ever heard of AgentOSX by Codeworks software Ltd? When I do a get info it tells me the name is Stealth 1.1b. I tried googling all those names, but I get nothing. I'm really curious what it does. I'm so depressed, I do alot of my Brycing during my down time, while everyone else in the office either reads magazines or surfs the web. I'm BORED! What am I to do?

you could rename the bryce .exe to something the boss likes you working with so in the statistics it shows you are working on something instead of brycing , just be smarter then them lol

I found Stealth 1.1, for Windows, on a page in Spanish, where it says it's a filter for web content and can monitor all the activities of the user.

There's also Stealth Web Page Recorder, which is used to record webmail passwords and similar spying stuff.

There's also a real live wild spyware under the name of Stealth 1.1 by Amigreen, apparently six years old.

There's a Codeworks Software Ltd in Bournemouth, England, but I can't find what exactly they do.

hmmm would installing some anti-spyware tool to get rid of that spyware proggie help? (is it even legal for your company to monitor your online activities like that??)

Found it! It took a little detective work but I found it. Codeworksltd.com has a company called iInventory as its client. So I went to iInventory.com to get the low-down on this little app. It apparently records all installed programs, including manufacturer and version number. It also keeps track of any changes since the last audit. It is not installed on any PC, audits can be made over the network. Since my company's IT support is out of Toronto, they could audit our computers remotely from there. This thing also keeps track of firewire and usb devices. But I'm wondering if, the USB device is not connected, this auditing software can't possible know that it has been connected. I'm thinking, if Bryce were installed on (let's say a 1 Gb USB flash drive) they couldn't possibly know about it unless they do an audit while the flash drive is plugged in? Right? I've worked in I.T. / I.S. for over 10 years and I've always run into trouble makers like you!!! ;) Just kidding!!! I'm not familiar with iInventory, but most auditing software will use the Registry data to extract the info. So even if you have Bryce installed on a USB Flash Drive there is some Registry data that will show that Bryce is installed. Now depending on your I.T. Staff and Company if your Copy of Bryce is Legit it shouldnt be a problem. These types of auditing software is usualy installed so companys dont by mistake install 2 copys of the same Autocad 2006 license. Talk to your I.T. Staff. I used to allow my users to install their own software as long as it was Legit copy and they werent going to pass it around to other co-workers.

Does this Registry data indicate when the software was installed? I have legal copies of Bryce, Poser and a host of other apps that are not part of my daily workflow. But because they aren't Company sanctioned software, we are not allowed to install it on company computers. We have been told that if we wish to improve or augment our software skillset, we have to either: 1) Gain permission from our superiors (permission has never been given) 2) or do so on our own time on our own computers (recommended) I haven't found a way to convince them that Bryce is worthy of self-training. But the nature of our business is feast or famine. We go months working like dogs, and then weeks go by where there is literally nothing to do. Our office essentially turns into an adult daycare, whereby everyone just yaps and gossips all day long. Me, I'd prefer to spend my time a little more productively, so I do Bryce, Poser, Wings and such. It makes the days go by much faster. But this big beauracratic conglomerate I unfortunately work for is so paranoid about illegal software that they have a no tolerance policy. There used to be a time when this job was fun. Now it sucks. I guess I'm entering a mid-career crisis. I want to get out of advertising altogether. The funny thing is, I meet people everyday who tell they know someone who is dying to become a graphic designer. And I ask them, why? I don't get it. I guess they have this romantic idea of what graphic design is. Sure, there are some Graphic Designers out there that love their job. But I bet you, they are working on really cool stuff, which comprises about 1% of Graphic Design. The vast majority of GD is rehashing some art directors old concepts, reworking an ad campaign from another country, typesetting, making corrections and the list of mundane tasks goes on. Bryce was like sunshine on a rainy day. It was like getting a corner office with a beautiful view and an attractive secretary (that would be poser). Coming into the office knowing I had nothing on my plate would get me all excited, because I knew I could spend the day Brycing, AND GET PAID FOR IT! How sweet. But now... Slowly, but surely, over the years, every perq has been squeezed out of agency life. The 2 hour lunches are gone, the Friday catered meals are gone, the Esspresso machine is gone, offices are gone. We now work in cubicles. The X-mas bonus is gone, haven't had one in four years. Travel expense account is gone. Running our own software was the last one. Yeah, you're probably saying "Well you can always Bryce from home". You're right, and I do. But its not the same. First off I've got two small kids, and the only room we have for the computer is in their playroom (imagine your work station in the midde of the busiest aisle at the supermarket). So the only peace and quiet I get is after they go to bed. Which is the only time my wife and I get time alone together. So, unless I plan on marrying my computer, Brycing is off limits during that time. I've been at the same company for almost ten years. And if your familiar with Advertising, that's a pretty remarkable feat. I've outlasted almost everyone here except two others. I could change companies, but there are two problems with that: 1) I'd just be changing desks 2) Everyone else that has left here has failed miserably, and I have a family to support, so its not as if I can start at the bottom in another job. Don't get me wrong, I love my life. But why does big business have to suck every last ounce of enjoyment one can possible squeeze from it. Sorry, for the rant. I'll shut up now. :-( (very, very unhappy)

Hmmm. As someone who was unemloyed for the last ten years of his working life, before I retired, and who spent the previous years stuck behind the wheel of a bus or a truck, I can only say, *My heart bleeds for ya"

Grass is always greener on the other side. I love computers and is my main hobby so when I got an I.T. Job I thought cool my dream job to play with computers all day. Well long story short, its not as fun as it might sound and after 10 years of it I had enough of the b.s. and so I switched careers. Now I program Industrial Robots for the Automotive Industry, its physically harder than sitting in my I.T. Cubicle, but I'm not bitter anymore. But enough with my stuff. As I said at the start of this thread, the grass always looks greener on the other side but its not. You've been working where you are for 10 years so you are pretty much settled with the routine, I bet you know all the peoples personalities and how to deal with them. Going to a new job would just mean you have to re-learn new personalities who stabs who's back etc.. And I know exactly what you mean about feast / famine, we are project based here as well, the last stretch with had 6 months of no projects people were being laid off and yet they expect you to look busy doing some sort of work. Now here is what I recommend for you to write to you're boss's as a request to install your Licenced copy of Bryce 5. "Dear Sir Madam, I would like to install a single license of Bryce 5 - Graphics Design software on my workstation to rejuvinate creativty, improve my skill set as graphic designer and remain on cutting edge of current technology, this will benefit our company XYZ. as an industry leader." If this letter works you ow me $5 ;)

Imagine what you've got now, then add having had only one tiiny little raise in 15 years. Getting your retirement fund frozen for 7 years withour your knowledge (and the money used to cover up some red digits in the company's financial balance instead). No mentioning of your 20th year working for your company, no mentioning of your 25th year working for your company. Payment frozen for at least another 2 years to come. And a bonus of only up to $75 a month at max (excl. taxes) which you'll only get if some guy who knows NOTHING about the amount of work you do goes "eenie meenie miney mo" and ends up with his finger on your name.
Yup, that's my dad's job...
Maybe you'll find some comfort in knowing there's companies that treat their employees even shittier :) lol

Sambucus... City bus drivers in my town start at $36K and can earn as much as $90K. My cousin just became a truck driver and is earning $18.75 an hour. That's almost as much as what I earn if you break down my salary into hours, given that there are an average 2000 working hours in a year. Not bad scratch if you ask me. I've been unemployed before, and yeah, that sucks big time. Yes, I know it could be alot worse. I could've been born in Afghanistan too, but I wasn't. I could be making Coco Puffs for a living, but I'm not. Forgive me for wanting more out of my job. The problem being is that I've worked under better conditions, so I know what this job was like. Had I started where I am now, I wouldn't know the difference, and probably be happier for it. Don't feed a man a steak, and tell him it'll be the only one he'll ever have. He would have been better off, never to have known. That's why I'm sad. I sympathize with other people's tales of woe, but it dosen't serve to make me feel any better. But I'll read them nonetheless. Whew, bandolin, wish Id been a bus driver in your town, and not London. But I wasnt making a point about money. I bet you dont work regularly over weekends, holidays and nights. When I came home the kids would yell "Burglar!" and the dog would bite me. All I was saying was, you cant really complain for doing what you are paid for and having to stop what is basically, stealing time. "because I knew I could spend the day Brycing, AND GET PAID FOR IT! How sweet." In my experience, big corporations expect you to give them 100% of your time, while smaller outfits are much more understanding. You`re just in the wrong job.

This will cost some money......but maybe invest in a laptop.That is a huge FU to the "man"....as it won't show up on the system.

You're right Sambucus. I can't argue that. In fact, that is exactly what happened. I worked for a very small local ad agency, which in turn was sold to a slightly larger agency out of Chicago, which was bought out by a very large Agency out of New York a year later. And then they were bought by a huge media conglomerate from London a couple of years after that. I've never worked for huge corporations before. Always small mom&pop shops. Its a difficult transition for me. I now understand the soul sucking pointlessness of office automatonic beauracracy. I don't think I'm in the wrong job, I'm just at the wrong end of it. I just bought a new PC TB. There's no way my wife will go for a laptop. But good suggestion though.

No offense but this does not sound like "big brother" restricting anyones "rights" but more like a private company deciding what apps they will allow on THEIR PRIVATELY OWNED workstations. as far as their monitoring software goes, its no different than security cameras at Walmart that monitor patrons and yes...employees. Consider buying a Used laptop and running your personal software on it during breaks etc.

Hmmm... guess you've got a point there, in a way it is like security cams.... Actually I know of this story where this one guy who was working in the supermarket got fired because he was caught on security cam while jerking off in the storage area! LMAO!!!
