I just got this e-mail from e-onsoftware about upgrading from Vue 4 to Vue 5 Infinite... A while ago, you purchased a copy of Vue 4, and we thank you for your business. We hope that you have been fully satisfied by our products. We would like to remind you that Vue 5 Infinite (the professional version of Vue 5) has now been shipping for over one month. If you havent looked at Vue 5 yet, wed like to invite you to check out our latest video presentation. Please visit e-onsoftware.com/products/vue5infinite and see what e-ons breakthrough advances such as the new EcoSystem technology could bring to your production. If you like, you can also download a free 60-day trial version of Vue 5 Esprit here: e-onsoftware.com/products/vue5/trial Did you know? As a Vue 4 user, you are entitled to special discounted upgrade fees: you could get Vue 5 Infinite for only $199 (SRP: $599)! Why upgrade? Here are 5 typical reasons: - The revolutionary EcoSystem technology lets you animate scenes with millions of plants, - The new Global Illumination and Radiosity engines produce stunning visual quality, - Multi-pass and Multi-layer rendering makes compositing easier and more flexible, - Fully Customizable Shaders let you create amazing visual effects, - Infinite procedural terrains let you create scenes with perfect detail whatever the viewing distance. The press and Vue 5 Infinite customers are enthusiastic: the power and reliability of this new version is simply amazing! For more information on e-on software products, please visit: http://www.e-onsoftware.com Best regards, The e-on software team. What!!!! I paid $399 and I bought it before it was released. Isn't that when you are suppose to get any kind of special pricing! This just ticks me off!

war2 ( ) posted Mon, 02 May 2005 at 11:07 AM

im not sure im following you, when did you buy vue4 for 399us$ ? must have been a very long time ago, unless you bought v4pro just before new year? and b, they did say in that note that you were entitled to buy v5I for 199us$ so that is your discount (v5I regular price =us$599)

Chrisdmd ( ) posted Mon, 02 May 2005 at 11:30 AM

I bought Vue 4 right when it came out, bought Vue 5 right when it came out and upgraded to Vue 5 Infinite before it was released. I got this e-mail this morning. Unless I'm reading it wrong...it states I can upgrade from Vue 4 to Vue 5 Infinite for $199 (see line that says "Did you know? As a Vue 4 user, you are entitled to special discounted upgrade fees: you could get Vue 5 Infinite for only $199 (SRP: $599)!")

It is probably a typo in their email. The upgrade price from Vue 4 Professional to Vue Infinite is $199. The upgrade price from Vue 4 is $499 if you have the boxed version of Vue 4 and $549 if you have the download edition.

Djeser ( ) posted Mon, 02 May 2005 at 12:16 PM

I wonder what's up, Agiel; I upgraded from Pro and got the $199 price, but I sidegraded David's Vue 4 boxed edition, and it was $499. Which I do think is a tad steep, but if they're offering a big discount now, I'm gonna be more than a bit angry.

Chrisdmd ( ) posted Mon, 02 May 2005 at 12:48 PM

Agiel, I hope it is a typo, otherwise they are going to have some serious complaints. This is kind of a flash back to what Caligari does...so frustrating.

agiel ( ) posted Mon, 02 May 2005 at 1:49 PM

Welll... when did you get that email ? I haven't received one yet. The link I posted is from their current list of prices. As it is listed, upgrading from Vue 4 to Vue Infinite is more expensive than from Vue 4 Pro to Vue Infinite, which makes sense to me. I would find it odd that they suddenly treat Vue 4 as the same level as Vue 4 Pro as far as upgrades are concerned. Chris - you should send them an email asking for clarifications. I would send one myself if I had received it.

SAMS3D ( ) posted Mon, 02 May 2005 at 2:10 PM

I got my email like Chrisdmd this morning, the exact letter. I just think it is odd that they don't know that I already purchased, Vue Pro and Vue 5 Infinte.. Sharen

Porthos ( ) posted Mon, 02 May 2005 at 2:48 PM

I got the same one this morning!!

MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1
Intel Core i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz, 12.0GB RAM, AMD Radeon HD 7770

PoserPro 2012 (SR1) - Units: Metres , Corel PSP X4 and PSE 9

Costaud ( ) posted Mon, 02 May 2005 at 3:26 PM

Me too.

Antycon ( ) posted Mon, 02 May 2005 at 4:06 PM

Maybe when they say "Vue 4" they mean "Vue 4 product line", which includes Vue d'Esprit 4 and Vue 4 Professional... But they should have used "from" instead of "for", it is really strange... I can't imagine they are doing an upgarde at 199$ from Vue d'Esprit 4, it would be bizarre...

Costaud ( ) posted Mon, 02 May 2005 at 4:31 PM

I got this e-mail and I have only Vue 4, so why they send e-mail like that to a person who don't have Vue 4 Pro.

Porthos ( ) posted Mon, 02 May 2005 at 4:37 PM

I have only Vue 4 and I too got same offer in email!

I hope something has gone amiss....I had Vue4 & would have loved this deal. Instead I upgraded to V5...added modules & then V5I. I could have saved a couple hundred dollars going this route :(.

Hoping this was an accident like when we all got those letters in French. I did NOT recieve this e-mail.

Yes, I also need a response about this asap. I have an order for V5E that is in the validating payment process and would cancel it asap if this was real. I am figuring it was a typo but just want to know just in case. I called their # a few times today and left message but no call back yet. Will be Po'ed as well if it is real and I couldn't get a hold of somebody to cancel. :) Still sounds like a typo more than anything though.

Irish ( ) posted Mon, 02 May 2005 at 5:42 PM

Well, I think it is very misleading. Companies here have been charged with doing just this sort of thing because it gets people into the stores - there is actually nothing for the price advertised...and it looks like E-on is doing it too. I'd jump at the chance to buy Vue Infinite for that price. I just purchased Vue 5 in December, just before Vue Infinite came out. I've written them a protest letter and I hope others will too. :)

redon634 ( ) posted Mon, 02 May 2005 at 6:04 PM

Count me in as someone who will be very unhappy if this is true, since I recently upgraded from Vue4 (not pro) to V5I for $499. I hope this is a typo in their email (I didn't receive this email).

arry ( ) posted Mon, 02 May 2005 at 6:06 PM

I'm a registered user of vue 4.2 and received this email promising the upgrade for $199 but after further investigation its only users of vue4 professional. The email was very deceptive

grypho ( ) posted Mon, 02 May 2005 at 9:14 PM

That's right. The e-mail is purposefully misleading. Note that it says you COULD get Vue 5 Infinite for $199, not that you WILL get it at that price. When you go to their site, it is the same pricing structure they had before for sidegrades/updgrades. Nothing has changed. So, if you paid $399 for the updgrade from the boxed version of Vue 4, you can feel comfortable that you weren't ripped off. If, like me, you visited the website looking for the deal that was seemingly offered, you were ripped off.

Cobthaich ( ) posted Mon, 02 May 2005 at 9:41 PM

I recieved confirmation from E-Onsoftware that this offer is for Vue Professional and that it is a semi misleading mailing. So for all of us with Vue 4 non-pro we will be wishing for Vue 5 inf:) Cheers all. Cob

grypho ( ) posted Mon, 02 May 2005 at 10:51 PM

Here's the e-mail that I sent to e-On before I visited these forums to see if anybody else had received the same thing:

To whom it may concern.

Your e-mail is very misleading. The only way I could get get Vue 5 Infinite
for $199 is if I owned Vue 4 Professional, and your company knows that I
don't. The price for me is $499, as you know.

But you got me to check out your site and look for that special deal that
wasn't there. If that's all that counts, you are ahead of the game. On the
other hand, you've substantially reduced the probability that I'll buy
anything from your company ever again.

I guess it all depends on how you measure success.

Best regards,

Scot A. Griffin

Same here. I got this email yesterday and I own Vue4.2 Esprit and bought Vue5 when it came out. Something's definitely wrong here and I'm a bit angry. If it is a typo (and I think it is) it is even the wrong person (I do not have Vue 4 Pro). E-on should explain that very soon. I'm waiting for the explanation.

Rokol ( ) posted Tue, 03 May 2005 at 5:33 AM

Just got the confirmation it's a typo. See below. Yesterday we sent you an e-mail; it turns out that this e-mail could be misunderstood. In order to clarify things, the $199 price quoted in that e-mail is only applicable to upgrades (from Vue 4 Professional). It does not apply to sidegrades. The cost of the sidegrade from Vue d'Esprit 4 to Vue 5 Infinite is $499. The standard retail price of Vue 5 Infinite is $599. If you sidegrade from Vue d'Esprit 4, you will be saving $100. If you upgrade from Vue 4 Professional, you will be saving $400! For a complete list of prices, please visit http://www.e-onsoftware.com/products/vue5infinite/?Page=15

Costaud ( ) posted Tue, 03 May 2005 at 3:09 PM

Yes received the same, so I will not odering it because it's too expensive and I prefer Terragen.

Irish ( ) posted Tue, 03 May 2005 at 3:47 PM

"This e-mail could be misunderstood"!!!! Well, yea! You send an email to your Vue 4 customers and proclaim that "Did you know? As a Vue 4 user, you are entitled to special discounted upgrade fees: you could get Vue 5 Infinite for only $199 (SRP: $599)!" Plain and simple, this is misleading and false advertising. It got a lot of people clicking on E-on's website looking for this great special. When stores and businesses advertise or promote misleading and false announcements, they are charged and rightly so.

peter_wade ( ) posted Tue, 03 May 2005 at 6:18 PM

I got both of those e-mails. And the correction email "could be misunderstood" as well. All it says about prices is "The cost of the sidegrade from Vue d'Esprit 4 to Vue 5 Infinite is $499." According to their web site the $499 price only applies to sidegrades from the boxed edition, for the download edition it is $549. I wonder if the people writing these e-mails actually bother to check the pricelist at all.

Lyne ( ) posted Tue, 03 May 2005 at 6:33 PM

Do you know if you walk up to the cash register in a store and expect to pay the SALE PRICE MARKED on the product shelf it is the LAW that the store has to sell it to you for that price, even if it is the store's mistake for marking it at that price? I have vue 4 (plain old original) and I badly want Vue 5i, but can't yet afford it... When I got the e mail from e-on I got really THRILLED... BUT knowing them... !!!.. - I replied and asked IS THIS REAL AND HOW DO I PURCHASE FOR THAT PRICE, BECAUSE IF IT IS REAL I WILL BUY RIGHT NOW!! ...and of course I got a "clarification e mail".... bahhhh, phewy!!! So I am back to waiting until I can afford the $499 price...and hoping, wishing if I wait long enough there will be some sort of special offer.

Life Requires Assembly and we all know how THAT goes!
