Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 24 6:22 pm)
Just to pre-empt anything of the sort, please remember, no merchant/member/site bashing in this thread, please. That's the kind of thing that's been getting threads locked. If you, personally, have a specific problem with a product, please consult the Store Staff.

QA note: Looks like we've gotten back to the small text again...... ;) The text is OK for me -- but it might not fit someone else's tastes/needs. ......for some reason, that statement sounds familiar to me.........
Wow. That's what I call a quick fix.
Such a rapid response will help to assure customer loyalty.
And more sales in the future.
;)
"It almost looks like you're leaving out the merchants that people would love to bash the most, and giving less famous merchants a spot instead." Only for the "Best" section, while it's just the opposite in the "Worst" section, where everyone but the rank 'newbie-with-his-first-item' is up for the choosing. /P
You might want to include criteria for P5/P6 specific items, such as dynamic cloth and hair, and procedural texture sets. There's not much in the market yet, but I expect more in the near future. Good luck with the testing procedures!
The pen is mightier than the sword. But if you literally want to have some impact, use a typewriter
So are you going to be buying these items for review or are you planning on handouts?

I shall watch with voyeuristic interest :) I do think it would be better if you had people with knowledge in specific areas working on it. someone who has experience in geometries..another who's specialty is textures etc I would add ... "Geometries..Has the model been built with efficiency in mind, are there polys that aren't seen left in the model. check for collinear, coplanar, degenerate,n'gons etc" (I would go on about tris v's polys too but Mac would hate me for it,lol) "UV Mapping..is there any apparent stretching?& again..is it efficient" I've purchased models in the past that have had thousands of useless polys wasting space, likewise stretched uv's are an eyesore that instantly ruin a model for me. Cheers Stefan btw, with regard to seams please pay particular attention to P5 versions..skin seams are more apparent in P5/6
Peng -- if you could convince stonemason to sign on as a reviewer, then you'd have it down cold I think.
But there's no way that such a thing will ever happen.
My own observance of all this it quite frankly -- more or less neutral.
But I will say that if anyone can pull this little experiment off, then it's likely to be you. I'm not convinced that it's a good idea. Time will tell.
I'll read your reviews as they appear.

I'm not convinced that it's a good idea. Time will tell. Oh, geez, I could have written that. I'm scared now. I'm actually agreeing with Xenophonz. Yikes! ;-P bonni

I'm actually agreeing with Xenophonz.
Wait a minute......you mean I'm in agreement with elizabyte???!!!
WAIT! WAIT! I've just changed my mind........!!!!!
;)
P.S. It's a good feeling to be right, isn't it? ;)
Friends and coworkers say that the woman seemed fine before she suddenly said that she agreed with Xenophonz. Coming on the heels of the runaway bride and the mysterious case of the warden's wife, this has a lot of people stumped. Back to you Katie.

before she suddenly said that she agreed with Xenophonz Yeah. After that she won the lottery; was elected President; invented an operating system that totally replaced Microsoft Windows; and became a famous movie star with a home in Beverly Hills. And I don't even like Beverly Hills.
she'll have to be number 2 after Hillary's had her 8 years After 8 years of Hillary in the Whitehouse, #2 would be about all that any of us would have left. ;)
But we're getting OT........ That's dangerous. Especially when Hillary's involved.

"After 8 years of Hillary in the Whitehouse, #2 would be about all that any of us would have left." Bravo, XENO And Bravo, Peng. I think that you may have hit the nail on the head with developing a Merchant Review System, so long as all criteria is reasonable and precise with minimal subjectivity. Given the outline you've offered, thats exactly your intention. If the movie industry can survive whilst movie critics provide us with critical, albeit subjective, reviews, I think Poserdom can too. In the long run, this could be a very good move. I see it as encouraging, provided the subject of the review can take the crit for what it is and learn from it. Its basically a free "portfolio review", although its presented before thousands of onlookers. The only drawback I can see (at the moment) is that its the equivalent of putting a finger in the dike. There are SO many products, and so little time, and only one Peng.
If you invited vendors to add their names of a pool of merchants whose goods were going to be reviewed, that would probably allow for reviews with the most credibility and least amount of apes like myself screwjacking about the reliability of reviews. What I mean is that only vendors who agreed to have their goods 'tested' would get a review that would be shown pubically. If the intentions of the reviewers are legit in that they want to protect consumers and improve quality of products, then the readers will be sure that little bias is being used if the merchants being reviewed volunteered. The biggest problem with this would be that inevitably the big stores would probably tell their merchants not to allow their 'exclusive' products to be reviewed. The big stores are probably going to try to quell it either way. I think though it's going to be tough not to seem like a witchhunt...even if names are chosen out of a hat (randomly), they're still chosen out of a finite quantity of names which will exclude others. The exceptions in the current draft themselves point out that 'assumptions' are already being made. I applaud the aim and hope it becomes a good thing for both consumers and merchants. If it's able to 'enlighten' all merchants in ways to make better products, I think that'd be the best case scenario. Ha ha - it's going to get a lot of friction but hopefully will weather the storm. Here's a toast to its hopeful success :)
I look at it in the sense that if all the content creators know that Peng has declared everyone as fair game then overall quality might improve.(if only out of fear) I dont really care about individual reviews as much as I care about quality being raised across the board that's what I hope this exercise achieves.if the threat of a review makes someone try that extra bit harder in creating then it's all good :) wishfull thinking, lol mrrat.. get yourslf UV Mapper,it will check for coplanar, degenerate and colinear polys for you. an N-gon is a poly made up of 5 or more sides..your average poly should only have 4 sides,or 3 if you really need them..most modelling apps will export as quad or tri for you "A degenerate facet is one in which two or more adjacent vertices are identical. A simple example of a degenerate facet is a triangle where the first two vertices are the same" "Collinear facets can cause problems for rendering programs because it can be impossible to determine which way they are facing. This can cause improper smoothing and creases when rendering a surface containing them. A collinear facet is one in which the first three vertices lie along the same line" & sorry I meant 'concave' not 'coplanar'..I always get that one wrong.my bad : "A simple way of thinking about concave facets is called the "rubber band test". Imagine if you were to stretch a rubber band around a facet; if all of the vertices would be touching the rubber band, the facet is convex. If one or more of the vertices would not be touching the rubber band, the facet is concave." *all above quotes are from Steve Cox who made UV Mapper http://www.uvmapper.com/help/menu_select.html
