It's not as scary as it looks, I'm tellin ya! I was just digging around in old me-stuff, from a past life, and stumbled across this monstrosity. Considering all the newer users who've joined us since I posted it in 2002, methinks it might be useful to someone!

Yeah, ok, but with all this stuff, can you actually make a procedural that is specific (ie. a terracotta cobblestone). Or is all this playing in the DTE just random fractalizing. Great clarification, thought LSM.

Why not? Making repetitive, tiling textures is easy. Making a texture map for a person, or specific things like labels, text-based graphics, and stuff like that is outside the sphere of procedurals alone. Most people are just afraid of the DTE because there isn't a manual for it. That's why we all hang out here, to learn stuff the books can't teach ya.

ARghhh! You have no idea how long I've spent making a complicated terrain version of a crazy paving path only to see that Lordstormdragon could doubtless have knocked one out of the DTE with a few quick tweaks ;)

CrazyDawg ( ) posted Wed, 04 May 2005 at 10:44 AM

Kathye that is why is has "Lord" on his name...he is the Lord N Master of the DTE ;)

I have opinions of my own -- strong opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.

Lord! I mean Lordstromdragon, this rules! I guess the randomizer is the way to go. I'll try that tonight and may post an image tonight. By the way, nice DTE display.

Wanna make some weird stuff in the DTE! Oh please Lord, teach me, teach me! Wanna make copper, wanna make roofing tiles, grotty spaceship metal, engine exhaust, plasma..., wanna make all sorts of stuff.

I'd really, REALLY like to be able to make glowing coals and an ashen texture. (need these now) (as well as the bat fur - really gonna need that very, very soon) Help?

Here's my first attempt in using the DTE Randomizer on the Patrol Droid's Photoreceptor. I know, I may have to tweek it a bit more, but the idea I was going for was more of a photoreceptor-grid look for multipass scanning (behind walls, heat seek mode, particle tracing, ect...). Anyway, any comments are welcome: this is still a WIP.

lordstormdragon ( ) posted Wed, 04 May 2005 at 6:34 PM

Hmm, i like the style, but perhaps turn the noise up a bit? It seems kinda pixelly, although it's shaded very well! You don't have to use Random stuff in the DTE, you can pull up all kinds of presets and tweak them, as well! Most of the operators are accounted for in the DTE libraries. Holding down shift will bring up a visual library, as opposed to the text-based one...

I was able to complete the textures this morning. Thanks again for your help and suggetions.
