Subject: Saving Face Room creations? Where?

How do I save a Faceroom face into my library to be applied again later?

When you are in the face room, down where the image is created from the pictures you import, there are two buttons. They look like file symbols, but are gray. If you click the one on the right-hand side, it will allow you to save the image. Once you have saved it, you can use it again later instantly by going back to the face room, and clicking the file symbol on the left hand side. You can then choose the image you created and it will immediately apply the face to the head in the room. BTW: A good tip is to change the default name Poser gives the file when you export it. Give it something meaningful so you can locate it again. I tend to name my faces based on the actual person they were modelled after.

If you save the figure into a library it will save the morphs for your new face. You should save the texture somewhere seperately as destro75 said.

Yes, you can do that as well. What I meant though, was that if you want to use the same mapping created from the import process, for another model, instead of trying again to get the mapping correct, (which is a total pain,) you can save the image, then import again, and it will immediately recreate the morphs. Then you can make minor adjustments via the dials, for variety on the same model. You can actually create many different faces with the same two pictures. Plus, if you import the custom image, the Random Face button will work with that texture!

I would have thought the "Expression" Library would save the face room morphs but it doesn't. I'm one of those who jumped from Poser 4 to 6 and I've noticed that the "Face" tab is now just called the "Expression" tab which doesn't give me hope for saving faces to the library. I know I can export Morph Targets and just apply those but that's a long way round to getting what I want done. As for saving it to the expression library, that doesn't save the morphs. My question is what part of the library do I need to save the faces to? The Pose Library?

If I understand you correctly, you can't do what you are asking. However, there is something of a workaround. Going back to the method I gave earlier, do as I said, with the exporting image, etc. When you import the image again, you can click the Apply Shape Only button, and it will apply the shape of the face you have created, but not the texture. I hope this makes sense. BTW: If you wanted to do it the way xantor said, you would save the whole figure just as though you had created a new model with morphs. Then you would save it in the figures library.

Here's the best way to do it ... When you create a face in the face room, apply it to your head as a morph target (use the Spawn Morph Target in the face room). When you return to the pose room, you'll see a morph created for the head ... it will also be NAMED "Head 1" (or something like that). There will also be morphs for the left eye and right eye as well. Name them something that is more descriptive so you know what goes together. For example, name the first morph set "Amy", for the head, left eye, and right eye. Save that character to the library. Every time you want to save a face, add that character to the scene, and save the next morph set. Then resave the character to the library again, with the new morph addition. That way, you can store all of your face room morphs in one character, and just dial them in as you need them.

Nice Deecey. I didn't even think of that.

DCArt ( ) posted Wed, 04 May 2005 at 2:44 PM

The cool thing about that method is that you can dial the faces in as much as you want ... and also combine two or more face room characters to make an entirely different character. It may result in combinations that you didn't even think of. 8-)

Oh wow! I didn't even consider that. Any other good tips? Ya gotta love the 'rosity boards!

Any other good tips? ROFL I sneak 'em in when I can ... and lots of them will be in a book. 8-)

A book huh? So when is the release date?

DCArt ( ) posted Wed, 04 May 2005 at 3:18 PM

My estimate is late summer/early fall (haven't heard the official target date yet, but will let folks know when the time draws near). I'll be working on it through most of June, then it will go through final layout and to the printers. "Practical Poser 6" is the title.

LostinSpaceman ( ) posted Wed, 04 May 2005 at 3:20 PM

I guess that beats exporting each head as a morph target and loading it back in. I guess I'll add Faceroom Library to my wishlist for Poser 7. Your suggestions are great, but they end up adding a lot of extra geometry to one figure. I was hoping for something like the ability to save INJ Morphs to a library. At least I think that's close to what I was asking for.

DCArt ( ) posted Wed, 04 May 2005 at 3:28 PM

Hmmm, you will save morph data separately when you check the "Save External Morph Data" option in General Preferences. The morphs are saved in a PMD file that actually takes up a lot less space than an uncompressed CR2. Also, if you like, you can create a pose file that injects the morphs contained in a PMD file. There are Add/REM pose files that do just that for Ben, James, Jessi, and Kate when you install P6.

LostinSpaceman ( ) posted Wed, 04 May 2005 at 3:53 PM

That's what I think I want to do. I guess I need something to create the INJ files right? I just heard at RDNA that I need to have "External Binary Morphs" turned on to get those PMD's which I had turned off, I suppose that's why it wasn't saving the morph data in the expression library when I saved the face.
