I've read former thread about "Different trees.." and I've tried. OK it's rather easy. most of EcoSystem parameters can be controlled by the function.

1.Make a graycale map like this.

2.Make a plane and assign a terrain material, and change it to EcoSystem. 3.To make a circle flower field, I checked "Variable Density" and assgin the grayscale map. 4.Set a filter to cut "only black area". 5.Add three different flowers in General tab.

5.In General tab, you can find "Distribution" section. That the point. At the first, this section must be "random". Click the lightning mark.

6.In the function editor, maybe "constant" node is connected to the "Distribution" output. Change the node from "constant" to "texture map". And assign the grayscale map.

7.I would like to increase red flower proportion, so I inserted the filter node - it increases white area.

That's all. Of course it's not perfect, but if you can make better grayscale map and apropriate filter, the result will be more better. And if you want to change underlying material by the grayscale map - just assign a mixed material, distributed by the map. Hope this helps and sorry for my bad English. Hatsumi

Cool work I would be curious in differences in render speed and control between single ecosystem technique and multiple ecosystem. FYI. I been researching a technique on multiple ecosystem and planning to provide a tutorial on it. I have quite some success with lately.

Since both methods produce virtual polygons, I'm assuming render times should be similar. But combining the 2 processes should give a lot of extra control and variation. This is getting more exciting each day (looking forward to your tut, Stewart).

Sharen, right click on the "ball" and select edit ... don't remember exact what it says, sorry, but the top one.
Then you get the dialog where you can assign the map. It'll look like pict in post #6. Edit: post #5 it should be. And click the little hilited button which you see to the left on top.
