I'm still fixing it, but thanks jumpy :-) Catch 22: Norton won't install w/o MSIE 6.0, and PC Cillin won't run w/o SP4 on win2k - and I can't find the CD, so I'm d/l'ing that on my work laptop, and it's taking forever. Another reason to get pissy at prorietary shite like MSIE. ~S, Flying the Opera/open standards flag ;-)
Thanks, checked mine, and I'm okay.

That's so cute being called jumpy, wondering how you got such a nickname? Have lots of guesses, some more jumpy than others, lol!!
Hate typos, not sure what I'd do without these edtit functions.

I didnt know PC-Cillin would'nt run w/o sp4..thats some extra info ;) Heh, after Spinner started calling me Jumpy, it kinda stuck I guess..and yeah, it might have been that evil overlord of the Tavern, KBennett who started it..I cant remember ~lol~

Thanks for the info, interesting read, always nice to know where people get their online names, mine is just my name, blonde and simple, lol!!
Can see what you mean by the gender neautral trick with your name spinner.
Spinner controls in max? Sounds like fun, but complicated.
Also still curious to know what jumpy actually means?
Lots of names on these forums you only have to look at and you can often tell what they may mean, or that they are just plain catchy, but some seem more complex or much deeper.
I should ask bonestructure where he gets his name from too, and XENOPHONZ and dialyn and pushinfaders and geep and.. Edit for awrfful speeling!

My screen name actually is pretty lame..if you were thinking anything about 'jumper cables' to 'jumpstart' a car battery you were close ~LOL~
Actually, years ago when I first got online, a friend was helping me set up my very first email account {I had no clue} and mine and my brothers cars were both dead..no battery to speak of..long {boring} story short, he went to 'jumpstart' his battery, and I yelled at him to 'jump-start-me-too' ...alas, jumpstartme2 was born LOL
I think I prefer Jumpy tho..nice and short...have no idea what kind of story I could attribute to that one tho... Looks at Bruce...just what kind of 'real' stuff you know about us huh? EG >:)

My screen name is based upon the name Xenophon.
On different Poser sites, I might use small variations on the name -- but it's always based around XENOPHON.
So it's not hard to spot me. And I never use unrecognizable clone-names.
The original Xenophon was an ancient Greek warrior/philosopher. He was an Athenian by birth. But he admired the rival city of Sparta, and he lived there for a time.
You might want to read the book A History of My Times by Xenophon.
I also like the root meaning of "xeno": stranger.
But mostly........I am vain, and I like the way that the name sounds.
please send all bribes to pushinfaders@renderosity.com EG :-) right back at ya Jumpy

"Phon" is most likely from the root word for "sound" (as in "phonograph, phonetic, etc.). So, Xenophonz, are you suggeting that you talk strange? Or that you're strange and talk a lot? ;-) (PS, my screen name is a play in my middle name, "Elizabeth") bonni

So, Xenophonz, are you suggeting that you talk strange? Or that you're strange and talk a lot?
Uh.....perhaps.
Although I wouldn't consider what we do in the forums to be "talking" in the strict sense of the word. Anyone that doesn't want to "hear" what's said can simply not bother to read any of it.
As for being strange......in this place, and in this community......that particular characteristic makes one fit very comfortably into the accepted norm. Just another face in the crowd, as it were.
An accusation of "strange" in this community is about like being called 'wet' in a public swimming pool.........
;)
PHONZ was a super-cool dude from an old TV series. I didn't like the series. But he always got the girls.
Hey.....we're talking fantasy.
BTW -- I thought that the "Elizabeth" thing had something to do with being the Royal Queen of Poserdom. Or some such.
Well two anyway Two English ones in their own right, but a number of English kings had wives called Elizabeth, and there are plenty of historical European princesses named Elizabeth who went on to marry various European kings. So, yes, many queens called Elizabeth. ;-) bonni

Actually Countess Bathory was not a vampire, but like to bathe in blood because she thought it would help her stay young. My name is my character's name. I got this version of the name from Mercedes Lackey's Mage Storms Trilogy. Natolii in that series was what is termed a "Blue" or an unaffliated student in the Queen's Collegum. Unlike many of the "Blues" her father is a herald and she is studying to be an engineer. Many Blues are of noble blood that their families send to the capital for an education.
For those not familiar with the Collegum it is divided into 4 sections and each section has a color. The Scarlets, or th Bards... In order to be admitted you need to have 3 out of 4 criteria or the full Bardic gift. The Greens or Healers, Need to have a gift for healing, but not Chosen. The Greys or the Herald Trainees, You need to be Chosen by a Companion and tytpically have some sort of gift from animal mindspeech up to and including Adept Level Mage gift (Herald Elspeth). The Blues or the unafiliates, Belonging to none of the other professions but still taking classes in the Collegum. Spinner many of these script kiddies know their way around PC-cillin, Norton and Mcafee. I use AVG for Anti-virus and back it up with A2 for Malware removal. I go thit hard about 6 months ago and these were the only 2 programs that were capable of removing it. AVG was the only one to detect it. Both programs are freeware and AVG is recommended by one of the PC magazines and CNET.

Brynna is Welsh and is my Wiccan name. It's a feminization of Bryn, which means "high place" or something along those lines (I really should be in bed... damn late-night pizza and everything that goes with it). I don't have a drop of Welsh in me (to my knowledge) and instead attribute my choice of names to a past-life related thing.
My current occupation is Internet Tech Support. I use Panda as my AV prog, but agree with Natolie that AVG and A2 are both great free AV programs. Norton, McAfee & co. truly suck. Besides missing a lot of viruses, they both can slow your system to a crawl.
I update and run Adaware and Spybot at least once a week. Also update Spyware Blaster weekly. If we're suspicious of slow-downs we run Hijack This to see what process is running that shouldn't be there. Have been using Netlimiter for a long time, and I agree with Spinner as to checking what it's allowing to access the net.
Also agree with Spinner about IE. IE is a spawn of the Devil. Unfortunately most of the web revolves around it. My own response is to have two browsers on my pc and use each as according to my needs. My favorite "other" choice is Mozilla Firefox.
Linda, Brynna, etc... going back to bed... damn Italian sausage...

My screen name comes from years ago, precomputer, when I edited a satire magazine called DAILY BONESTRUCTURE. I became so identified with it that it became my real life nickname. There's no double meaning to it, nothing deep. It was just a silly name for a silly magazine that parodied the science fiction, fantasy and horror field.

Thanks for the info Spinner :) I chose my name because Violets are my favourite smell and my favourite colour, I was born in 71 and I'm an Aussie ;) Have a lovely evening :) Becki

I just spent most of the day cleaning up after a filthy little scriptkiddie attack. Norton 2005 didn't catch it, neither did the latest release of PC-Cillin from Trend. AdAware didnt catch it either but that may be due to my lack of updating it for a while. This is what happens, and how you clean it up: If you notice your bandwidth behaving extremely erratically, you may have this issue. With erratic I mean i.e a speedy connection one minute, and an extremely slow one the next. If this is combined with erratic system behaviour, i.e hangs and a CPU at 100% if you're not doing anything, you may have the issue I got, and here's how you clean it up: First thing you do if you see this, or notice something similar, is to grab a copy of NetLimiter. Install it, and disconnect from the net. Connect to the net, and run NetLimiter. Watch for two apps, called winole.exe and gta.exe Open Taskmanager, and shut both of them down. Disconnect Reboot Enter Safe mode (F8) and start in safe mode. Locate the files either by doing a search (F3) or by going to the winnt/system32 folder Delete them - Shift+Delete sends them straight to bit hell w/o passing through the recycle bin Reboot Connect to the net Start NetLimiter You should NOT see them there now. ~S, who's off to write a mail with vapour trails to Symantec - LiveUpdate should have caught this.
