Hmmmmm....??? We've established that it's a Canon camera....I'm assuming it's a digital..... now what kind of camera? A point and shoot? A compact zoom lens? A dslr? Did you use flash? It almost appears to be a shutter curtain/flash issue, but without knowing any other details, it's tough to say? And my question to the more knowledgable.... do digital camera's even have a shutter curtain?

I am, therefore I create.......

I don't even know what a shutter curtain is Chelle! ashamed Care to explain while u're at it!? wink ;D

Quick pic of a shutter curtain in a 35mm camera....... When you snap the shutter, the lens aperture opens and the shutter curtain slides open to expose the film and then is slides closed. When using the wrong flash synch mode you will sometimes see an image much like the one above, half exposed/ half unexposed..... because the shutter curtain didn't open in synch with the flash settings.....

Did it happen on just this one image or is it happening on all thatyou take?!?!? That info may help troubleshoot! BTW...My Canon G6 has a setting for 1st and 2nd curtain (which I have yet to explore!)

Found this...about the REBELS flash synch speed!

Have to agree with Michelle looks like a shutter problem. There are 2 curtains and they work by exposing a strip of light across the sensor - it does not look like the sync is right and therefore the strip of light is not travelling the full sensor height.

Ok...MIGHT have solved the prob...? I have a Canon ID Mk ii as most know..no built in flash!...the highest my flash synchs is 1/250th with the Canon dedicated BUT you need to INPUT that on the flash itself...just a thought:) BUT it does seem that the synch is wrong somewhat on the Rebel...what is the highest it can sycnh at?

jimry ( ) posted Mon, 16 May 2005 at 4:47 PM

whops... yeah...the rebel synchs at 1/200th

Michelle A. ( ) posted Mon, 16 May 2005 at 4:48 PM

this is the kind of effect you get with second shutter curtain...

jimry ( ) posted Mon, 16 May 2005 at 4:57 PM

EEEk,...yes,...no flash....certainly a curtain prob...cannot see what else it could be cept that. Ok...what where the setting you used?...may seem trivial but might help? Maybe the card is corrupted?

jimry ( ) posted Mon, 16 May 2005 at 4:58 PM

SoulSearcherr ( ) posted Mon, 16 May 2005 at 9:39 PM
