Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 29 1:45 am)
i may be wrong but generally the tex map looks for the original *.obj file that you save it as in poser i myself have never had much luck adding maps to *.dxf files which are used mostly for blueprints hence no maps... but what type of problems are you having with importing *.obj files into bryce? generally it's a fairly easy process but sometimes it may take a long time to import. all depending on the size and quality of an obj file. by the way welcome to the big artist family jeff
Why don't you just load the OBJ file into Bryce? It should load without any problems. Also, there's no need to create a new UV map for an object created in Poser. If the OBJ format gives you trouble, try 3ds. Also, if you need to convert formats, use 3D Explorer, available at: http://www.xdsoft.com works much better. Which version of Bryce and Poser are you using?
Just export from poser4 to object file, click on the box that says retain names of groups, then name your object. Open bryce 4 then import the object you just named. Except for the transparancies everything should be mapped properly when it comes into bryce. Just go to materials and diddle with the transparancy. A bit of warning, position the whole object before you ungroup for the texture diddling. I have trouble sometimes if I ungroup then try to move the figure, but that is just me I am not nearly as proficient as I want to be with either of these programs....but I am having fun. ...keep saying to yourself ...I am a human being...human beings created this program, therefore I am capable of mastering the program...I am in charge...I command you (insert name of program) to do as I say.... It is not listed in the manual anywhere but I find that this makes ME feel more powerful....however sometimes I get the distinct impression that these programs giggle ...but then hours in front of my computer can make me hear things.... :-)....

Okay, first let me say "Thank You" to whoever created this program! Just because I haven't mastered it yet doesn't mean that its not a great program. Now with that being said - "I DON'T GET IT" - to coin a phrase - ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I understand the process of loading a .obj into UV Mapper and then saving it both as the .bmp and as a new object. My problem comes after I color in the .bmp. I save it then I go to Bryce. I guess I should preface this by saying that first of all I'm wondering if anybody is using the same programs as I - ie Bryce, Rhino and Blender. Since I have trouble importing objects into Bryce I use "Crossroads" to convert my .obj into .dxf so that I can load it onto Bryce. My problem comes when I try to add the 2D texture to my newly created .obj (which is now a .dxf object). The 2D renders as pieces - not a completely filled texture. So first I ask will UV Mapper work if you convert the newly created .obj to another format? And 2nd is there something that I am doing wrong (or don't have the right settings set)so that the .bmp texture I created will map on the object without so many gaps? I humbly bow to your expertise!
