i put on a reflection material (for a mirror) using P6, but it was made for P5 all i get in a plain white surface, no mirror i know something is wrong -_-

Uhm, did you render with raytracing enabled?

yep after 30 min, i finally found i had diffuse as white -_- set black and worked fine :) told you dumb thing :P but 2nd problem now camera looks at mirror and mirror reflects fine but my whole scene is inside of a hi-res sphere sphere is at 3000% size (3x as wide as scene) normals point inwards, and it has a texture on it the area that would be showing in the mirror is away from camera view, so camera sees only in mirror how to fix?:P

At first I thought this had to do with the "yon" camera parameter, but that only applies to preview. I think you'll have to light that sphere; probably the easiest way is creating a spot light, parent it to the main camera, set xTran, yTran, zTran to zero, set xRot and zRot to zero, and set yRot to 180. Disable shadows, and make sure your Angle Start and Angle End are high (I'd recommend 120 and 150 for starters). Keep Distance Start and Distance End at zero. Hope this helps. Steven.

No, it's probably that #@%& culling bug left over from P5. Enable "smooth polygons" in your render options, and try rendering again. For some stupid reason, this prevents the bug from occuring.

hmm i got it kinda fixed shows the background image (in the mirror too) but it isnt pure reflection, its a little blurry im guessing its cuz mirror background is so far away might be "averaging out" slightly and losing detail the sphere material is a stary pic btw guess i could remove the half the sphere behind the camera then set mirror to be transparent a bit wherever no reflection hmm will have to play around with it

Is everything in the reflection blurry, or just the sphere? Perhaps if you lowered the shading rate on the sphere itself?

anxcon ( ) posted Tue, 17 May 2005 at 9:34 PM

just sphere part is blurry you can try yourself with basicly what i have background shader is just a noise node, min -50 and max 1 mine is about 50 nodes to add color and more but you have basic thing there, cheap stars put a mirror in center, sphere has normals inwards i put shading rate to 0 and it still blurry, no stars

There is a known bug in Poser 6 reflections and refractions. This might be causing the blurriness you are seeing. I was getting some ugly distortions in refractions in Poser 6 that I wasn't getting in Poser 5 so I sent an email to Curious Labs about it and sent them a picture showing the problem. They replied that they are aware of the problem and that the service release will fix it. Cross your fingers.
