Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 22 9:27 pm)
Poser 6 under OS 10.3 will take files without converting. However, that doesn't help with those files which have been encoded. That is part of why we rely upon MacConverter: it decodes as well as fixes stuff and changing the format. MacInstaller is the one I'm missing most, though. I'm so used to organizing my libraries and telling the app where to put the files and having it cheerfully tuck everything into the right places for me. :sigh: Carolly
I'm not sure what you mean by "encoded"??? Poser 5 and 6 are file compatible with windows, there is no decoding needed. As to telling the OS where to put your files we have ditto or if you would rather use a GUI then feel free to try dittoGUI, which makes installing about as painless as it can be. Cheers Kaveman
Encoded as in pcf encoded to be sure that you have the necessary seed file. I think those are the right initials. The other is rte or something like that. (past my bedtime... again) Anyway, suppose that you have taken the head of one character and the body of another and want to distribute your creation... or suppose that you've made a passel of morphs and want to share the character... you can't legally give away somebody else's mesh. But what if the person already owns it? How do you prove it? You make sure that they can't use your file unless they have the seed file installed. There are encoders/decoders, but they are PC only. MacInstaller had a built-in decoder for one of them... so we didn't need to use a separate product, it was just part of the installation. DAZ does this with their own products all the time, for upgrades and expansion packs, but since they use installers with everything, you don't notice when it is looking for the right seed file. Unfortunately, their installer is pretty useless if you want to do your own organization (I install into a temp file and then use MacInstaller, which makes 2 steps). If you use mostly independent stuff, you'll need a decoder for some of it. Carolly
Yes P4 files can be a problem, it would be nice if the merchant could refresh their products. How long ago did P5 come out? http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?ForumID=12404&Form.ShowMessage=2253039 Deals to Mr Shruggy and http://www.geocities.com/RTEJava/alpha/index.html Decodes RTE files. I'm told that very few merchants use RTE encoding. Sorry I haven't encountered pcf files, yet. Hope this helps.
