Subject: How much RAM for Infinite + Poser figures?

this is driving me NUTS :( I love Vue, but when I start importing multiple Poser figures....yeesh, problems. I am trying to build complex scenes with several figures, I have 2 gig of RAM. 5 poser figures really pushes the system. Does more RAM actually ~HELP~ ? I ask this because if I check memory usage in Task Manager it's still showing one GIG of RAM unused, even though V5I tells me its having memory problems, grr! sigh ANy suggestions ?:) I have used "weld" etc on the models by way to cut down sizes etc.

Bake the Poser figures to polygons. It's a huge different in memory. I have 2 Gig RAM and not much problem with memory. Mazak

It's not your memory it's a bug that has been hunting Vue since version 4 and it seems like E-On can't get rid of it. Vue for some reason cannot handle multiple high res textures (which are being used on Poser figures a lot). There's not much you can do about it, except for scaling down the texture size a lot, but then you'll loose a lot of quality too.

It drove me crazy enough to drop Vue and do my work in Poser again. Poser handles memory a lot better then Vue does. Adding more mem will not help either, I've tried that and it doesn't solve the problem at all. Vue just has a huge memory bug, but somehow I've got the feeling E-On has been denying it for the past years. It's actually not the figures themselve as some may claim. Even with Vue 5 Pro (and 4 too) I could import over 100 untextures high poly mike or vicky's. But as soon as they started to use textures, Vue failed me very quikly.

hm, thanks for the feedback :) Mazak, a question, bake to polygons, one figure is animated in Poser, what occurs in such a case? big render going so don't want to stop it to check ;)

I don't bake to polygons, I save as .VOB. One figure at a time. For the final scene, I just load the .VOBs That seems to work pretty well, I have rendered 15 Poser figs (most of them with textures at 2000x2000 px or moree) with 1.5 GB in Vue 4.5 Pro, which has more memory problems than Vue 5 Infinite. In Vue5I I've used less characters, but some of them are used in ecosystems. Works fine.

The pen is mightier than the sword. But if you literally want to have some impact, use a typewriter

Bake to polygon with an animated Poser figure did not work, Vue loose the connection to the scene file. Save animated Poser files as vob like svdl suggested. Bake static objects and if necessary reduce texture files with a paint program to save memory. Mazak

When you import the poser figures into Vue, don't weld them into a single mesh. The Vue memory manager has trouble with high poly objects. However, if you can break them down into smaller pieces, you won't have any trouble.

Keep in mind that the =majority= of used memory vis-a-vis Poser import is -texture- files. Most skin texture sets are far too large for the average viewing distance you see with Poser models in Vue (3000x3000 or 4000x4000 are utterly wasted; the details simply aren't seen). And you can shrink the textures yet again if you are animating; the motion blurs the fine details into invisibility. So why waste RAM on them? Take a high res mesh like V3, and put one of the large 'real skin' textures on it, import it, render it, then set the scene up again, reducing the texture in size and re-applying it, then render again and compare the difference.

Yeah, you're right Silverblade, the default action is unwelded and it gives you the option to weld near the end of the import. Leaving it unwelded dispite the massive list of objects it generates is better on memory. I've tried to import objects with no textures in the range of 2 million polys or so and I get memory errors but if I split the 2 million poly object into smaller objects Vue becomes able to handle it.

If you're using Poser figs in the background, you don't even need textures. P4Male and Female look pretty good using simple skin-colored shaders with the highligts set just right (add a bit of noise). Low poly is also fine. Saves oodles on memory!

Poser`s texture seem give trouble when imported to Vue , if you have Vue4 or 5 Pro version you can incorporated poser textures , and save the file again Attention , this method not included in Vue5Pro manual , but in Deep Acces module PDF I hope this help
