Subject: Problem Building Props

ravenfeeder ( ) posted Tue, 06 February 2001 at 9:28 AM ยท edited Mon, 29 July 2024 at 8:25 AM

I'm trying to build props from the Poser prop type objects, and I want to be able to position the whole prop by moving just one part. When I try to 'parent' the other parts to that one, I frequently get tremendous deformation of the 'parented' part, especially if the orientation ('y rotate' for example) is different. Is there a solution to this?

To avoid the deformations, i place a small ball or cube in the center of the mainprop and parent all to the ball (cube). Mostly it works. Hopefully for your problem also. Harie

Export them in OBJ format and bring them back in as one piece.

Good Call JeffH :-)

Thanks for the responses. I had thought of the JeffH solution, but hadn't tried it yet. As long as I keep everything in its original orentation as far as rotations go, I have no problem. It's when I try to rotate something 45 degrees and parent that things go crazy. Thanks again for the responses.

I have made a few simple props by adding parts of other props with the nice collection of props recently released here, then do the export/import thingie back into poser. These basic shapes exported as 3DS and imported into TrueSpace are easily sliced/diced/molded/and things stuck on them, and re-exported back to poser. I'm a lousy prop maker, so I look for simple and the export capability meets my limited capabilities.

Bit of a followup to suggestions by JeffH and Harie: both methods work, but exporting and re-importing 'obj' files eliminates the ability to color the parts differently, or to adjust sizes of parts. harie's trick works for me, leaving me the ability to adjust and color individual parts separately. Good trick! Wonder why that works and parenting to other parts doesn't?

I am glad, that i could help Harie
