Subject: M3 Hair. What do you use?

Acadia ( ) posted Wed, 01 June 2005 at 6:21 AM · edited Thu, 23 January 2025 at 3:52 AM

I've combed through Daz and found hair for M3, but it doesn't look as nice as most of the V3 Hair that I've seen. Vicky's hsir seems more refined and stylish, where Mike's is too choppy, stringy or has "square angles" in them. I'm more than 1/2 way through the free stuff here, but again, the same thing. The hair looks unkept and stringy. I would like to find some long straight hair, or a long layered hair (not a shag or "fly away" look. I saw one long hair at Daz but it was "fluffy and curly", and looked more like it was for a female than a male. I've been using the "all back style" from Koz. It looks "ok", but again, it's more of a female hair style and I would like to vary the hair styles too. So tell me please, what hair do you use for your M3 and/or D3 renders?

I just found a mat for that in the free area, is that what you have?

Runtime DNA has WildSide Hair for M3 that has a very nice look to it. The Loki hair is long but seems like it might be too "unkept" looking for your purposes. Hair is pretty interchangeable so if you find a V3 hairstyle you like, it can be adjusted for Michael. He won't mind. I rather like 3Dream Egypt hair. Shahara's Steps make it super easy to fit to other figures. Same with the Agent hair (which I realize is not what you are looking for).

The only hair I have for M3 is the Mihai hair I bought at DAZ. It's...it's ok for now. My men need more hair, LOL. :(

LOL, unkept is ok, so long as it doesn't look all frizzed out. Some examples of what I think would look nice on Mike: http://www.man-hairstyle.com/images/men_02.jpg http://www.man-hairstyle.com/images/short_hairstyles_clip_image001.jpg http://www.man-hairstyle.com/img/men_haircut05_JPG.jpg http://www.crystalfens.com/royals/haakon1.jpg http://www.fabioifc.com/fabio/FABFIT/fabio_autogr_clear.gif

Thanks. I do have all of Koz's hair, but they are for females. I saw a few styles I like at RDNA, but I'm going to hold off for now while I wait to see the price of Anton's new character there. I'll be snapping that up along with a texture package or two.

One thing to remember about the Agent, Egypt, and Loki, etc....they come with a lot of variation built into them. You can make the hair shorter, longer, fuller, thinner, windswept, etc. I love that flexibility even though I don't do much rendering these days. If you're not anti-postwork, another way to go is a good tidy of the hair after the render...a little smudge here, a little push/pull there does wonders for bed head.

I haven't been doing much in the way of renders this past week or so either. I've gotten interested in digital painting again so have been working on that. I decided the hair will have to wait for the time being. I picked up the Wardrobe Wizard which is from what I understand a powerful utility that will help me convert clothes between characters, and that's a good thing with Apollo Maximus coming out. Have you seen him? Hubba! Hubba! Hubba! Excellent looking figure.

Apollo Maximus looks very good...even bald! ;) Wardrobe Wizard is great fun...I just wish there was a way around owning all the characters in order to make the transformations (whine, whine, complain, complain). It apparently works with hair, though I've not tried it.

Kozaburo has male hair, but I must have loaded it wrong. I've actually used the Maya Dude hair once or twicet, with no ill effects..

Kozaburo hair sometimes needs help going in the right folders.

Wildside hair at DNA is very nice + it works for a variety of figures besides M3..so it's versatile. I did a render here recently of the Cuffed Tail hair from Daz which looked terrible in P4 but now renders brilliantly in P6.

Netherworks Hair Conversion kits -- in the freebies -- are the best way I've found to fit Vicky's and other model's hair to Mike. Also, if the hairstyle you choose comes with a Stephanie 3 fit, you might not even need a conversion, just minor dial tweaking to position it correctly. For short styles I use the Koz or Maya hair, longer is either Loki or a converted Vicky style.
